The BBC Radio 1 Teen Hero Awards were hosted this afternoon at Wembley Arena. These awards "celebrated the achievements of outstanding young people in the UK, with an audience of 9,000 14-17 years olds". Daniel Radcliffe was awarded Best British Actor, and Emma Watson was awarded the Female Hottie of the Year award. Highlights of the event will be broadcasted at 8 PM Monday night on BBC Three. Radio Today reports:

The newly crowned Teen Heroes were nominated by Radio 1 listeners and chosen by a panel of celebrities including Professor Green, Louis Smith, Jessie Ware, Radio 1 DJs, journalists and experts from youth organisations.

Ben Cooper, Controller BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra, said: “Radio 1’s Teen Awards are all about celebrating the positive contribution that teenagers make to this country. This year’s winners Jenna, Chelsea and George have done just that – helping their communities and providing inspiration for all of us.”

@V-J, it’s a shame isn’t it that Emma get’s an award like that, rather than for her talent as an actress, it seems like we’ve still got a long way to go in viewing famous people as people, not as objects, especially with young women. (Or are we being old fogeys?)
