Harry has been cast and he is 13-year-old British actor Gabriel Thompson. Gabriel has previously played young Pip an a recent BBC adaptation of Great Expectations and Pinnochio in New Line’s The New Adventures of Pinnochio.

From Dark Horizons: UK’s The Citizen newspaper reports that protesters are preparing to picket Gloucester Cathedral if plans to shoot the live-action film version of the children’s novels goes ahead there as proposed. Casting News. According to reports at a book festival in Edinburgh, Warner Bros has signed Maggie Smith and Robbie Coltrane for the roles of McGonagall and Hagrid. New casting rumors abound, courtesy of Hollywood Reporter and Corona. Apparently, legendary actor Richard Harris is in the running for Dumbledore, while Alan Rickman may play Professor Snape. Tim Roth, who was earlier rumored as Snape, has opted for Tim Burton’s Apes instead.

It turns out that there is to be more than one location for Hogwarts in the movie. Warner Bros comfirmed today that they are using Gloucester Cathedral as one of the locations. They are refusing to confirm anyothers – so the earlier rumour of Alnwick Castle is not yet confirmed.
