Leaving canon for a bit, for a snip of fandom news
Until October 31, you can still do an early bird registration for Nimbus – 2003, the first international Harry Potter event.

To bring you up to speed, Nimbus – 2003 will take place from July 17 – 20, 2003, at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotel in Orlando, Florida. We’ve obtained a terrific rate at the hotel – $139 (plus tax and resort fee) per room, per night, for up to 4 adults in a room, and we’re finalizing arrangements for discounted airfare as well!

The event will feature discussions of Harry Potter canon and fanon,(including topics like the role of authority in the series; race, class, and other social issues; Rowling’s usage of myths, folk tales and legends; fanficcing an “incomplete” canon; the use of perspective in the novels and in fanfic; justice and legality in the wizarding world; drawing recognizable characters; and more – as well as a Keynote Address by Judith Krug, director of the Office of Intellectual Freedom for the American Library Association, and at least one showing of both Harry Potter films.

Further to the list of topics above, if you want to do a presentation on one of those topics – or any other! – our proposal/panel/presentation submission form is open – you can find it here and submit a summary of a presentation right online!

Registration at the $99.75 (ninety nine and three quarters dollars) rate will be available through January 15, 2003, but early bird registrants who sign up before October 31, 2002 (US Eastern Standard Time) will also get a special early bird t-shirt too.
