Hey, over here!

Ah, what a beautiful day. The sun is shining, the butterflies are chasing each other, and I bet the sea is just the right temperature for swimming right now.

Soooo¦ why am I sitting here writing this?

Well, it’s for my Leaky blog! Which I am so excited to be writing! I hope that this will be a lot of fun for both me and you who read it, and I’ll promise to make this entertaining and interesting! No, really! I know you have to scroll all the way to the S’es (why couldn’t I have been called like, Alina or something?), but it’ll be worth it. 🙂

I’ll keep this first entry brief, I’ll just tell you a bit about my Potter story, so you’ll know whose thoughts you are reading.

My name is Selina, I come from Denmark, and am a 20-year-old university student studying Film and Television in the UK. I have been a Harry Potter fan since 2000, and I’ve been in and out of the Potter fandom a few times. I used to frequent a forum which kind of got taken over by the dark side and it was all confusing, and since then I’ve kept on the low, staying up to date via Leaky and the podcasts, mostly just discussing HP with my friends. And then last year around this time, I was so fortunate as to be able to go to the Deathly Hallows release at Waterstones at Piccadilly Circus in London¦ and I realized how I had missed the fandom world! I suddenly understood the atmosphere and excitement surrounding the live podcasts as I got to attend the MuggleCast event, and I got to spend the day in a queue consisting of people of all age groups, nationalities and House persuasions¦ none of us knew each other, yet we ended up having the best time. We spent all day theorizing, playing games, discussing, singing… only Potter fans can come together like this and have as much fun as we did, and I’m sure any one of you who’s ever been to a book release or convention will know exactly what I mean! When I think of that day, I really lament the facts that a) I don’t live in the States or have easy access to them, and b) I have no money, because I can only imagine how much fun all you lucky people who get to go to the conventions must be having at the moment! Le sigh. Bottom line is though, that on that day in front of Waterstones, I realized that I needed to get back into this fandom, because there’s just nothing like it. I mean look at us, a year later and we’re still as strong as ever! And now with this new blog section of Leaky I realized that there was finally a way that I could contribute to my favourite HP site, sharing with you guys how the Potter phenomenon and fandom might be viewed from a “foreigner”‘s perspective.

Also, my favourite book is Order of the Phoenix and my favourite characters are Ron and Ginny, yaaay. Just needed to get that out there. 😛

I have lots of ideas for topics for this blog, which will probably include a little bit of everything ’ I am somewhat artsy, so you might find discussions on fanfiction, fanart, Wrock/filks and the like, as well as observations and theories about the books and films, and lots of musings and impressions about how the different cultures I have experienced relate to Harry Potter. And then, because I know I won’t be able to help myself, there’ll probably be an occasional comparison post between an aspect of the series and some other book/television show ’ I hope I’ll touch on something everyone will enjoy. 🙂 We’ve got Twilight coming out in a few days and I know there’ll be other bloggers touching on this (visit Candace’s blog if you’re interested in Twilight!), but I’ll probably discuss the book briefly here as well. I’m sure you know the feeling when you’re watching or reading something else and your mind just jumps to Potter¦ one of the things I’d like to do with this blog is to share instances where this has happened to me.

I hope you guys will enjoy my blog, and please leave comments whenever you have something to add or if you have any suggestions for me, something you want me to discuss or anything like that. Please come again soon, and I’ll see you later – I’m off to celebrate Harry’s birthday!
