In addition to the xBox 360 demo video we told you about two days ago, we now have a review of the game from Ray
Willmott, which provides an overall assessment of the demo:
“Might, magic and majesty. That’s one
way to
describe Travellers Tales’ Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4. The demo was
launched
on Xbox 360 on June 7th, giving players the chance to experiment with
Wingardium Leviosa in Professor Flitwick’s Charms class and enter the
depths of
the Forbidden Forest for detention with Hagrid, where he, Ron, Hermione
and
Fang then have to save an endangered Harry. While the playtime is only a
glimpse into the finished product, it is clear to see that the game is
polished
and has maintained TT’s sense of humour from previous Lego games. When
Harry,
Ron and Hermione enter Hagrid’s hut during a cut scene before they enter
the
Forest, they see Hagrid tending to a white unicorn, tucked up under his
bed
sheets with a thermometer in its mouth. However, don’t mistake this for
TT
cheapening the Harry Potter franchise with stupidity, as it’s clear that
people
with an understanding and passion for the source material worked on this
game,
and have kept the experience as authentic as possible. It maintains the
same
melodic soundtrack of the movies and recreates some of the scenes that
fans of
both the movies and books will be familiar with, while adding some light
hearted humour.
If early
indications are anything to
go by,
this is going to please Harry Potter fans no end, and is actually on
track to
becoming one of the best video gaming experiences of the Harry Potter
franchise.
We will find out one way or another in just a few short weeks when the
full
game is released.”
We also have an article
from GameSpot which goes into a little bit of detail of what
playing the game is like:
“In your first year, you’ll spend your time going
to class to learn the basic spells needed to get by. You’ll find
yourself
taking a potions class with Professor Snape, as well as an herbology
class to
learn the dos and don’ts when it comes to harmful plants. Each class
gives you
a brief exercise on how to use a particular spell so that once you’ve
completed
the task, you’ll gain the new spell.”
The LEGO Harry Potter Years 1 – 4 game will be available June 25th.
