Things I don’t want to find out

There’s a lot about both Harry Potter and Doctor Who I still want to know. Did JKR intend for the Peverells to have a connection to William the Conqueror? Will Donna ever get her memory back? Do Harry and Ginny still live at Grimmauld Place? What was Queen Elizabeth so worked up over in the Shakespeare Code? Well, you get the idea.

But there are a few things I hope we don’t find out, honestly, and I hope it doesn’t make me a heretic for saying this out loud. But it all goes back to the whole Epilogue thing in Deathly Hallows. I find in the fandom, you either love or hate the Epilogue, and — well, I’m a hater. *blush* It was just… well, too much. There are some things better left unanswered. I wanted to know that Harry got the girl, but… OK, I know a lot of you disagree with me, but I just found the whole thing trite and corny.

So I’m hoping I don’t ever find out what happened in the Time War, or what the Doctor’s name is. I mean, wouldn’t it take the magic away a bit if it turned out his name is Winston or even Sue? So I was almost a little glad to hear this week that the Eighth Doctor is making a comeback, but only for radio/audio purposes. There’s been a lot of speculation that one of the specials next year will be a Paul McGann story, which means Time War. But honestly… I think there’s value in keeping a little mystery about that.
