Well, the rumor mill over Paul McGann possibly returning as the 8th Doctor in one of next year’s specials seems to now have two conflicting sources. One says definitely, McGann’s in, the other says definitely, McGann’s just a rumor and isn’t involved. Both seem credible. Who do you believe?

But possiblly even more interesting is this new idea that… well, actually, if you haven’t seen the finale to Doctor Who series four, you might want to stop reading here. Scroll down if you don’t mind being spoiled!!

OK, this new juicy thing is a rumor that Harriet Jones is going to be coming back (maybe even WITH the Master) in one or more of the specials. Now, I know you’re thinking – but she’s dead! The Daleks got her when they traced the subwave network to her living room.

Or did they?

We didn’t actually see the Dalek ray hit Harriet Jones. We heard it. We saw them approach. We saw her face them. But we didn’t see Harriet die. Why?

Well, to answer that, I guess you have to ask yourself how Harriet Jones came up with a subwave network in the first place. Did she have help? If she did, who helped her? It doesn’t seem like the sort of thing ordinary humans can do yet, even in the Whoniverse. So… my theory, Donna’s subconscious Time Lord core led her to the Master’s ashes, where she picked up his ring and helped him regenerate somehow, and through the magic of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff, he was able to travel in time to help Harriet Jones (also a former Prime Minister) develop the subwave network. The big question is why he would do it. I admit I don’t have an answer for that yet, unless there’s an ulterior motive that we’ll see play out in the special.

Of course, it could all be hogwash. That’s what’s so fun about speculating. I could totally be on crack. As it is, I’m basing my theory on a rumor – but I do think it’s really strange they didn’t show the Daleks kill Harriet Jones on screen. Maybe Russell T. Davies just wanted to leave Stephen Moffatt’s options open. Or maybe Harriet Jones is really about to pull a Peter Pettigrew. Who knows?

At least this rumor’s not another “Harriet Jones is the Red Dalek and the mother of all Daleks” thing. Ouch!
