Yesterday, multiple media reports stated that the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, and her two daughters were to visit the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows today. As noted yesterday afternoon, a publicist for the Harry Potter films stated to ABC News that she was not aware of any visit planned. However today, the AP is reporting that a spokesperson for Michelle Obama confirmed that while in London “Mrs Obama and her daughters had been in London and had
visited the famous clock tower at the Houses of Parliament that houses
the Big Ben bell, along with Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London and
a Harry Potter set.” The Times has more on what the set visit included, as they reported the family enjoyed “a party on the set of the final instalments of the boy-wizard series. The trip was an eighth birthday treat for the Obamas’ younger daughter, Sasha,
although Malia, 10, also went along for the ride…Sources close to the Leavesden studios, in an old Rolls-Royce factory near
Watford, said that the author JK Rowling – who sat next to Mrs Obama during
the G20 banquet in Downing Street – was also attending today” Update: There is more from the Watford Observer, which reports: “First Family arrived on site at about 1pm and were taken on a tour
of the set before celebrating with author J K Rowling and a large group
of youngsters. Young Sasha and sister Malia, 10, both avid Harry Potter fans, were
then treated to a surprise visit by star Daniel Radcliffe. The source
said Mrs Obama, who had her hair tied back in a bun, looked ˜very
elegant’. This birthday party on the set of Harry Potter was confirmed to MSNBC by the spokesperson for the office of the First Lady.
