Award Season Begins! Nominations For Potter Actors In ‘Dunkirk’, ‘Beauty & The Beast’, ‘Darkest Hour’ & More!

A huge array of awards are lined up for Potter alumni this award season! Various alumni are nominated at the Critic’s Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards, once again showing their capacity to ‘wow’ audiences in any role. Sir John Hurt is also nominated for a posthumous award, and Bill Nighy for a Spanish film award.

First up: the Critics Choice Awards. Dunkirk (starring Kenneth Branagh – Gilderoy Lockhard to us!) leads the board, being nominated for eight awards: Best Picture, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Score.

Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on The Orient Express is nominated for Best Production Design, against Dunkirk and Beauty and the Beast.

Darkest Hour (starring Gary Oldman as Churchill) is nominated for Best Picture, Best Hair and Makeup and Best Score, and Gary Oldman has also been nominated for Best Actor.

Beauty and the Beast (starring Emma Watson and also featuring Emma Thompson) has been nominated for four Critics’ Choice Awards: Best Song (“Evermore”), Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Hair and Makeup.

Jack Thorne’s film Wonder has also been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as Best Hair and Makeup and Best Young actor (Jacob Tremblay).

Wonder Woman – which stars David Thewlis – has been nominated for Best Action Movie and Best Visual Effects.

In the TV category, Big Little Lies (HBO) starring Zoë Kravitz of Fantastic Beasts,
and Fargo (FX), which stars David Thewlis, have both been nominated for Best Limited Series. David Thewlis has also been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Fargo.

The Golden Globe Awards announced nominees today (December 11th), and a fair few alumni and Fantastic Beasts actors are up for awards in several categories.

The Golden Globes pitted Big Little Lies (starring Zoë Kravitz) against Fargo (David Thewlis) for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, and also nominated David Thewlis for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series for his performance in Fargo.

Jude Law (Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts) is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role in The Young Pope.

Ferdinand (featuring the voice of David Tennant, Barty Crouch Jr) is nominated for Best Motion Picture (Animated) and Best Original Song (Motion Picture) for ‘Home’.

The 75th Annual Golden Globes Awards will take place on January 7th 2018 on NBC at 9pm ET.

Sir John Hurt (Ollivander) has also been nominated for a posthumous audio drama awards for his performance in Big Finish Audio’s adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The Invisible Man. Hurt played Griffin:

Spain’s Premios Feroz awards have nominated Bill Nighy (Rufus Scrimgeour) in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in Spanish director Isabel Coizet’s The Bookshop. We’ve yet to see the movie in the UK and US, however, The Bookshop has received high acclaim in Spain since its release in November. Read more here.
