Another reader sent us this interesting rumor which, although not officially confirmed, supports speculation that Movies 2 & 3 will be filmed back to back:

I can confirm that the next two Harry Potter Films will be shot at least back to back, and possibly at the same time. Alnwick Castle has been used extensively for the first Harry Potter Film (all the outside Quidditch stuff is filmed there). Although there has been no definite agreement, Alnwick Castle should be used again in the next two films, and the plan is to start filming the next two books this year. The main reason given to the castle for this speed is, as you have stated, that the main three characters are going to get too old soon.
