The main “infringement” complaint from Nancy Stouffer that has bothered me is the use of the word “muggle” by both authors. So I did a little research. Turns out “muggle” has been slang for marijuana, the name of a doll, a character in Hanna-Barbera’s Capitol Critters cartoon, the name of the trained monkeys in Roald Dahl’s The Twits (Muggle Wumps), and so on. Furthermore, “muggins” is British slang for “a fool, someone easily outwitted” and just “mug” is slang for “a fool, often gullible.”
