It’s definitely the day for Harry Potter TCG news. Wizards of the Coast (WOTC) also informed me to keep an eye out for special tips and added information in Scrye and InQuest Gamer trading card game magazines.

I was also told that you’ll see a lot more spells, potions, and creatures in WOTC’s trading card game due to working closely with both Warner Brothers and JK Rowling to expand Harry’s world a bit. Someone poke Steve Vander Ark and have him be prepared to update the Lexicon.

Starting in January, full blown league play will start, again in a select mass market and core hobby/game stores (similar to the demo tour), so game fans will have a chance to get together on a regular basis to play, trade, earn cool prizes, and just just enjoy Harry’s world together.

Finally, I also got an excellent overview of the card sets coming out:

Starter level: The Starter Deck. All the starter sets for Base Set are the same, but the set will be updated occasionally to include new cards. This is currently available for pre-order.

Advanced level: The Booster Packs for the Base Set. There are 114 different cards in the base set, plus the non-holographic versions of Hermione and Draco you see in the Starter Deck for a total of 116 cards. These are also available for pre-order.

Expert level: The Expansion Set or “Theme” Booster Packs – the first of which is “Quidditch Cup” – due out later in the fall. The Expansion Sets will have all brand new cards (except for the lesson cards that are the basic resources you need to play the game; those are the ones you have the most of in the Starter Decks), so you can look forward to new characters, spells, items, adventures and other exciting things in each Expansion Set.
