The End II: Hit or Miss

For me, books at the end of a series are always a hit or miss. The last book in a series is so significant. It completes the story and ties everything up in a neat bundle. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows took me a solid nine hours to read, from start to finish. I read through the night to finish it, and it was definitely worth it. Deathly Hallows was a hit.
Unfortunately, Breaking Dawn was a miss. If you go one post down, the one from yesterday right after I finished the book, I said something along the lines of how I was confused over how I felt and I wasn’t quite sure yet if I liked it or not. This doesn’t usually happen. Usually when I read a book I know how I feel about it. Deathly Hallows left me feeling sated and as if the series came to a definite, content closure. I was happy with how it ended and I was happy with the information we got about how they lived on the rest of their lives. I know a lot of people would rather have gotten the details of how everyone existed, like where they lived and who they married, what they do for a living, etc. I liked what the epilogue told us. For me, the epilogue gave me enough to know that Harry, his friends, and family are living a content life without the danger that they all grew up in. He’s finally got the life that he deserves, and that’s really all I wanted to know.
Breaking Dawn was different. I say it’s a miss because I was severely disappointed with the book. There was good and there was bad, but overall I was unsatisfied with the book. So yeah, it was a miss for me. But I have talked to some people who really enjoyed it. It is all a matter of opinion and personal taste.
