All you writers out there! Start your engines because November is almost upon us!

For those of you who have never heard of NaNoWriMo, let me give you a little background info. NaNoWriMo is an online writing challenge. Participants have the entire month of November and only November to write a novel that is at least 50,000 words. I did it last year and am doing it again this year. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves to write. It tests you in new ways and puts pressure in places you’ve never been pressured before. You find yourself developing new skills and really getting into the story, and it’s frustrating and difficult and sometimes makes you want to cry or tear your hair out, but at the end of all of it? You can look back on Dec. 1 at what you’ve written, and even if you haven’t completed 50,000 words, you can say that you tried NaNo. It’s incredibly rewarding, no matter how many words you write.

Of course you get bragging rights if you do 50,000 words. It’s hard. Procrastination rears it’s ugly head a lot especially if you’re a busy student like I am with essays and papers due every two weeks and midterms coming up!

I will try not to turn this blog into a NaNoWriMo progress meter but if you are interested in hearing what I have to say and following my progress, check out my personal blog http://www.horsesandpotter.blogspot.com
