So, here is what happened on the night I went to see a Harry Potter movie on the big screen for the first time!

I didn’t get my robes made in time, but I didn’t really care at this point. I went to a theater that had 17 theaters all showing Harry Potter and the half-Blood Prince and all were sold out! The local Harry Potter group, of which I am a member, had a table set up to tell people about our group so I got there pretty early to help out with that.

I was very excited just to see so many people in one place who were still so excited about Harry Potter. Coming into the fandom when I did, I didn’t get to attend any crazy midnight book releases and have yet to be able to go to a conference, so it was amazing and inspiring to see so many people there! People started lining up very early in the day, so when I got there the place was packed and the crowd continued to grow and grow! Most people were dressed up, which was very exciting and interesting. Most people were in robes, but there was a Dobby, a broom, and a phoenix.

About 15 minutes before show time, we got to our seats, which had been saved for us. I was so excited, words can’t even describe it! As we were waiting for the movie to start, I got out my wand, fudge flies, and blood pops. I was ready!

After the last preview, the theater was full of clapping and cheers. The lights went off and it began. During the opening sequence, I held my wand so tight and I don’t recall being able to breathe. At the same time, my heart was beating a million miles a minute! It was so awesome, for two and a half hours to be immersed in the magical world.

I was afraid that since this was my first time to go to a midnight release of a Harry movie, that I would be a little bit let down. But I wasn’t. I absolutely loved it! I mean, there were bits of the movie that I wish had been done differently, but I’m sure everyone has bits they don’t love. My bit was Dumbledore’s death. I honestly, wasn’t moved and I felt I should have been. I thought beforehand that I would be bawling at that point, but I wasn’t.

I think my favorite scene was with Harry and Hermione and the birds. I love their relationship with each other, so I might be biased on that. I loved the big, sweeping scenes. For instance, when the camera pans from Ron and Lavender on the stairs to Draco staring out into the snow. I also really liked when the heart that Lavender drew on the window turned into a beating heart. I loved the story about the Lily that Slughorn told so much! I thought it was so beautiful and so touching.

After the midnight showing, I saw the movie four more times. Everyone I saw it with really enjoyed it. It was awesome, electric, exciting and I can’t wait to see the next two movies!

Even though I did come in late to the fandom, and missed the book releases, and most of the movie releases, I still have a lot to look forward to and am thankful that I get to be involved or experience any of it! I would like to end with a quote about how Harry was feeling at the very end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I share this feeling with Harry right now as well.

“¦in spite of the final meeting with Voldemort he knew must come, whether in a month, in a year, or in ten, he felt his heart lift at the thought that there was still one last golden day of peace left to enjoy with Ron and Hermione.”

If you have a Half-Blood Prince experience you would like to share, or your first Harry Potter movie experience, please do so in the comments! I would love to read about them.
