In a fun nod to the house from the Harry Potter series, The Telegraph reports that students at Oxford University’s Magdalen College have changed the name of their Junior Common Room to Gryffindor House. The article, which can be read at this link, suggests more Harry Potter related name changes are to follow if students have anything to say about it! Oxford Undergraduates at Christ Church College, Merton College and St Hughes College have also been campaigning to rename their Junior Common Rooms to Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.

The Telegraph reports:

“The student body voted on Sunday to pass a motion renaming the house after JK
Rowling’s equivalent at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.

It is the first time Magdalen College Junior Common Room has changed its name
during its 550 year history.”

Commenting on similarities between the College and the fictional house, the President-Elect of Magdalen Junior Common Room said:

“Magdalen
does after all look a little bit like Hogwarts, and not to put any noses out
of joint, but my Vice-President does look a little bit like Hagrid.”
