Steve Kloves, who was recently called to write and direct Defending Jacob, has been asked by Warner Bros. to direct a Jangle Book remake. This film will only be the third film the screenwriter has been asked to direct. The new Jungle Book is planned to be more based off Rudyard Kipling stories than the Disney cartoon with a more dark and edgy feel. The BBC reports:
“Kloves is a good writer, it’s a wonderful yarn and, nowadays, with the
special effects, it should be possible to do it really well.”
According to the Independent, Warner Bros. was searching for a more Potter-esque style for the film.
“The things you did in animation where you didn’t need to worry about
gravity can now be done in live action and be believable. If you look at
Harry Potter, they’re now using special effects to make live action
magic in the way that animation is.”Kloves is a good writer, it’s a wonderful yarn and, nowadays, with the
special effects, it should be possible to do it really well.”
