Hagrid may look a little intimidating at first glance, but once you get to know him he has the kindest heart of anyone you will ever have the pleasure of knowing. All he ever wanted was for Harry to be happy, and for Hogwarts to always be a safe place for everyone. Yesterday, December 6th, was Hagrid’s 88th birthday!

Hagrid

Hagrid has always protected those he loves and those who love him. From the moment he picked up the little one-year-old after the tragic death of his parents, Hagrid took Harry under his wing. He was the only constant father-figure throughout Harry’s life, whether or not Harry realized it.

But it wasn’t just Harry that Hagrid kept an eye on, he also took in Ron and Hermione, looking after them while they were at school as well. Judging by the universal love of Hagrid from all the kids at Hogwarts, I’m sure he influenced many other students as well, even if we didn’t get to glimpse that part of his life.

But it wasn’t just the students of Hogwarts that Hagrid felt he needed to protect. As we all know, Hagrid has a soft spot for magical creatures of all kinds. Much like Newt Scamander, Hagrid can’t see past a creatures need for help or assistance. Even if the creature is a fire-breathing Dragon who will eventually out-grow Hagrid’s hut of a house, he will take in the creature and care for it like it is his child.

Without Hagrid, Harry would not have made it past his first year at Hogwarts. Rubeus Hagrid played an important role in all of our lives and deserves all the happy birthday wishes in the world!
