Is it the mystery or the thrill of the chase? Which is the draw? Both seem to agree with Toby Jones, known to Harry Potter fans as the voice of Dobby. He has three series in the works, all related to the fine art of “detecting.”

Jones can first be seen as solicitor John Mayhew in The Witness for the Prosecution, based on a short story by Agatha Christie. The tale is familiar–an heiress is murdered; the young man who benefits from her death is accused; he claims his innocence and hires counsel to prove it. Mayhew then has the unenviable role of clearing the disgraced benefactor’s name and finding the real culprit. But with Jones as part of a stellar cast, Witness will undoubtedly delight and surprise. According to IMDb, the made-for-TV movie will air Dec. 26 (UK).

Fans of Jones’ comedy Detectorists will also be pleased to hear the new buzz surrounding the series’ return. RadioTimes reports that Jones recently spoke to the Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 about the possibility:

“‘I think there is now a chance that that may come to pass,’ he said when Evans asked him about Detectorists series three. ‘Mackenzie [Crook, series creator] was talking about how that may happen. It’s not 100 per cent, but I think there’s a chance of it.'”

Detectorists is not your traditional mystery series, featuring a different kind of hunt. Metal-detecting, to be exact. Those hopeful for a third season will be cheered by this news and hints filming may begin in the summer of 2017.

In one last twist, Jones goes from being the hunter to one of the hunted, taking a turn as the villain in the upcoming fourth season of the hit BBC series Sherlock. When Leaky reported on Jones’ addition to the cast earlier in the year, his identity had not yet been revealed and speculation was widespread. We now know his character to be Culverton Smith. Since the latest episodes will feature Sherlock and Watson combatting the infamous Moriarty’s attacks from beyond the grave, we can only assume Smith (Jones) to be a formidable foe.

Sherlock airs Jan. 1, 2017. View the newly-released trailer below.
