size=”3″ face=”Times New Roman”>Monday morning, I arrive at the office, eat my morning muffin, refill my water cup (I don’t drink coffee), open my computer. As I was a bit early, I put the finishing touches to my present to Cat, our dear Aussie Crafty Witch who had to step down because Real Life was being his usual bratty self. Once that’s done, I begin work¦ nothing out of the ordinary there. Then a little later, I receive a call from The Muggle (that’s my boyfriend¦ I nicknamed him that way many years ago because he has a very Dursleyish attitude towards magic and HP as a whole). It turns out that people broke into two of his trailers and stole some of his tools (he has a construction company). They didn’t take much (it looks like they were unorganized people who just stole what they could see with their flashlight and could carry in their hands back to the car), but still¦ There are now police and insurance reports to fill, invoices to pull out, more paper work. In short, it’s a pain in the rear end that everyone would rather avoid.

size=”3″ face=”Times New Roman”>What does this have to do with crafts will you ask me. Well, it got me thinking about insurances, and how, if my house was to burn down tomorrow (*rushes to knock on something woody¦ finds nothing and knocks on head to be sure*), my precious craft supplies would ALL be lost. Then I imagine the insurance guy’s face (imagine the Mrs.-Weasley-I-don’t-believe-a-word-of-the-lies-you-are-telling-me-to-cover-your-latest-mischief-Fred-and-George kind of face) when I’d tell him I literally have *cringes at the word* thousands of dollars worth of crafts supplies in my house. And I know I’m not alone (*points to Amber’s post from last week*)

size=”3″ face=”Times New Roman”>So, I took a bit of time during my lunch hour and Googled a bit. There are a lot of articles talking about inventory binders. I also found size=”3″ color=”#800080″ face=”Times New Roman”>this size=”3″ face=”Times New Roman”> very interesting article about insuring crafts supplies. And they’re quite right. We’ll insure our TV, our computer, our video camera, our top-of-the-line-yet-very-dusty-exercising-machine, but we’ll just forget about the top of the line sewing machine. I’m not quite sure about their method though¦ It’s not something I can see myself following for the rest of my life. Maybe it’s just because it involves paper and I’m not used to that anymore. I Googled some more and found some interesting softwares like size=”3″ color=”#800080″ face=”Times New Roman”>Data Tracker size=”3″ face=”Times New Roman”> and size=”3″ color=”#800080″ face=”Times New Roman”>Organized Expression size=”3″ face=”Times New Roman”>, that sound more interesting. On top of recording how much you have spent, etc. you can write WHERE your supplies are located. So that’s good for being organized too. And of course, for knitters and crocheters, there’s size=”3″ color=”#800080″ face=”Times New Roman”>Ravelry size=”3″ face=”Times New Roman”> too.

size=”3″ face=”Times New Roman”>The important part is that we should all be looking into this. Yes, it’s much more boring than actually crafting. However, it’s something we should all take care of. It’s not a matter of how you do it¦ If you’re technologically challenge, then go for inventory binders. If you’re mad about anything computery, then buy a software and get going. The important part is doing something¦ and updating it on a regular basis, either each time you come home from the craft store or once a week or month (season if you don’t buy that often¦ which isn’t something a lot of us can say I’m sure!)

size=”3″ face=”Times New Roman”>Well, that’s it for my rather boring but hopefully informative post! I hope you’ll have enjoyed it a bit nonetheless!
