At Kansas State University, there’s magic in at least one classroom. Dr Phillip Nel, a children’s literature professor and Harry Potter expert, teaches “J.K. Rowling, Texts and Contexts,” a class which focuses on the HP books themselves, from literary, entertainment and analytic perspectives. As an educator, Nel said he hoped to open minds to the books’ cultural and social merit.
The article also notes that Dr. Nel will also be a featured guest at Nimbus – 2003, the first international Harry Potter symposium, which will be held in Orlando, Florida from July 17 – 20, 2003. (And on a related note, the Nimbus – 2003 Taste of the UK event has already sold out, and Saturday (US Pacific Time) is the last chance to register at the current rate.)
