Apparently “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” is not playing so well in Indian theatres…. and it’s not the only sequel having trouble there:

Historically, Indian audiences have not taken kindly to sequels, even the most high-profile Hollywood ones. Currently, the second of the Harry Potter movies, The Chamber Of Secrets, is playing in thinly-populated Indian theatres. The manager of a swank South Delhi theatre is baffled: “Last year, the first Harry Potter did record-breaking business. We have really no idea why it (Potter) is doing so badly”. One reason could be that more than six months have elapsed between the time it opened in the West, and it’s been out in DVDs in the Indian market for that period. The other could be, according to trade watchers, the traditional Indian antipathy to making a connection with a continuing cast and characters: last month, the second part of The Lord Of The Rings, The Two Towers also did marginal business as compared to the first.
