” Harry Potter is a global brand worth an estimated $1 billion. ” So says Forbes in a short article about the industry surrounding the Harry Potter series. Focusing on the amount of money generated by the Potter books, movies, and merchandise sales, Forbes notes that “at least a dozen companies list Harry Potter as a factor that either boosted or slowed their sales last year.” In a slide show that accompanies the article, there are descriptions of the different Harry Potter money makers. About the DVD and Video sales they state: “Since it’s release last November The Prisoner of Azkaban has raked in $277 million. That means that people have already paid more to watch the film at home than in a theater.”
