If you thought there was enough new information today given the J.K. Rowling online chat, oho not so as there is even more online as MSNBC has now posted yet another article containing more new facts about the final Harry Potter book from our favorite author. In this article, which contains question submitted by viewers of the “Today Show,” Jo gives new answers concerning Draco, Snape, the epilogue and other (SPOILER) information about events in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which you can read via this link.

So many interviews! Cool! Snape is the greatest character in the books, no doubt!

Avatar Image says:

I thought that Harry explained really well about how the wands work, specif. Elder wand, but I guess some people didn’t understand, fair enough.

Avatar Image says:

I thought the Elder Wand stuff was easy enough to understand. I do like what Jo said, though, about the irony of the entire fate of the wizarding world resting on the shoulders of these two teenagers getting into a fist fight. Loves it.

I’m a bit confused. After reading the Today Show interview, and the Web Chat Transcipt, it seems to me JKR has assigned Ron two different “future” lives – one transforming the Auror Department with Harry, and the other going into business with George in the joke shop. Has anyone else noticed this? What’s Ron really doing? Perhaps I’ve misread?

Avatar Image says:

Great interview! Keep ‘em coming, Jo. ;) I do wish we had had interviews just like this for the previous books, spelling out the basic points the plot hinged on. I’d still like to know how Fawkes and the Sorting Hat got to the Chamber of Secrets in book 2.

Avatar Image says:

I’m a tad bit confused… I guess I need some opinions.. So It was a sad chapter watching Harry going to death (or so he believed) He also thought that Dumbledoor was sending him to his death.. But dumbledoor wanted him to get the deathly hallows so that when he faced voldemort he would be invincible right? So dumbledoor really did care deeply for Harry.. So what kept Harry from Dying, because voldemort was the one who posessed the elder wand. and also, it seems as though it was all just a big coincidence that Harry was able to defeat Voldemort because he had won Draco’s wand… Rather than it being Dumbledoor’s plan… See my Dilema? Can anyone clarify?

Avatar Image says:

Tani – I thought that meant that he did both. I think that immediately after the events in Book 7, Ron started working with George at the joke shop. Eventually, though, once the Ministry had been cleaned up, he started working in the Auror Office with Harry. I don’t think he was ever a partner in the joke shop the way Fred had been, but rather he was helping George keep everything together until things got settled.

Avatar Image says:

Unrelated but JKR has updated her site to wish our lovely harry potter a happy birthday…. if anyone cares considering he’s the whole reason we have our lovely fan sites :)

Avatar Image says:

and of course a very happy birthday to the wonderful author who bewitched us all with this amazing book series :)....the end of july is so much fun, sunday was my birthday, today-the 30th over here in the states still-is neville’s, and tomorrow is harry’s, jkr’s, and someone said its the actor who plays vernon as well!!! yay for birthdays! lol

Mrs, Rowling. I am a 62 year old Grandfather of 10, all of whom simply adore Harry Potter and the cast of Hogwarts students. My question: “Would you consider making ‘The World of Harry Potter,’ a television series?” It could be along the lines of a soap opera. You could start with Book 1 and show the life of Harry in more detail, before he goes to Hogwarts as well as day to day events of the students at Hogwarts, that was not possible in the books or Movies. You could actually extend this series for over 20 years if you made each semester at Hogwarts cover about three months or more. Each weekly program should be an hour and you could have them produce 25 shows a year, with two weeks off and then re-run the season again, before going on to the next season, or have one week between the originals and the re-runs. That way you could have a week between the re-runs and the “New Season.” I am sure that Harry Potter is a name that will still be spoken and his life read a hundred years from now. His life reflects some aspect of every individual who reads these books and thus the reason for the popularity…we each have a little Harry, Hermonie, Ron, and Draco in us. Yes, Mrs Rowling, this would allow all of us to continue watching a program which would be totally entertaining as well as educational as we study along with the students at Hogwarts. This would also give you a chance to allow ALL OF US who love Quidditch to get to see a complete match from time to time. It would be fantastic. So, please don’t stop with the movies, now that book 7 is complete. I purchased the Hard Back Book and the CD’s read so well by Jim Dale. Like you I literally cried like a baby in chapter 34. I guess I cried for over five minutes, non stop. I felt like I had experienced a loss of part of me, yet, you resurected me as the book continued toward the final battle with Voldemort. Yes, it was a welcome relief. Not only was Voldemort dead, struck so, by his own spell, but the curses he had over people were released and those people returned to normal. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. Harry in the end, did not kill Voldemort, but the same spell which weakened him in the beginning, while linking him to Harry, once again bounced back and he was killed by his own hate. Please consider these requests. We Love you for what you have given OUR Family, but also, for what you have given the rest of Humanity as well.

U GUYS THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree but I dont see it happening any time in the near future J.k. wants a vacation and I think she needs one.

um wow you guys no a lot about harry potter and i thaught i was th biggest fanpout

Avatar Image says:

The allegiance of wands is confusing. In the interview JKR says Darco conquered Dumbledore.. “Dumbledore didn’t want to lose his wand at that point and Draco disarmed him. So that meant that the wand gave Draco its allegiance…” This and what was said in the book (7) suggests that you can gain the allegiance of most wands just by disarming the owner. This would have surely occurred often particularly when practicing duels, as in book 2, and therefore this aspect of wands would become common knowledge.

Avatar Image says:

Hi,im posting to answer the question about why Harry survived Voldomort’s killing curse. This is due to the fact that voldomort took some of harry’s blood during his rebirth wich contained Lily’s protection which made Voldomort as a kind of horcrux for Harry thus the curse only killed the part of Voldomort in harry(including the connection between them)while leaving the rest of harry alive.

Avatar Image says:

Let me just make clear that I meant in the previous post “This would have surely occurred often ” in the wizarding world ”... this aspect of wands would become common knowledge.” for most wizards etc. You can imagine fathers telling their kids as they go off to Hogwarts for the first time to hold onto their wands more than anything else.

Avatar Image says:

I thought that it was only the elder wand that could be gained by disarming the holder

Jo is so funny ! “I don’t want to encourage teenage pregnancies,” =)

Avatar Image says:

This latest interview helped cement my understanding of the last book. Thanks.

Avatar Image says:

From the Web Chat :
Lechicaneuronline: Do you think Snape is a hero ?
J.K. Rowling: Yes, I do. [...]

From this new interview :
“I don’t really see him as a hero.”

17 years. Jo has always treated her fans with respect and dignity. She ALWAYS acts like a lady. She gave us a world of characters we care about. I mena, these people aren’t real. They’re imaginary. But we want to know what happens to them after the books. How many billionaires are as wonderful as Jo? A kind, loving person. Thank you for being in our universe. I LOVE YOU, JO.

Avatar Image says:

Meredeth Viera sucks. Totally smary, self-centered. Asked Jo the same question 3-4 times trying to get Jo to say what Viera wanted her to say. Tried to suck up on the MS thing. Viera’s a piece of crap. Good for Jo for putting up with her and being normal. VIERA SUCKS!!

Avatar Image says:

amanda you said “I thought that it was only the elder wand that could be gained by disarming the holder” but in Chapter 24 The Wandmaker, Ollivander explains this process for all wands generally, before being asked about the Elder wand

Avatar Image says:

So Did Dumbledore leave behind clues of the hallows to Harry as kind of a back up plan for Harry’s Protection?

Avatar Image says:

Like a few of you before, I’m a bit confused about Ron’s future….JKR has said that he becomes an Auror like Harry, and then she said he works with George at the Wheezes shop. I suppose it’s possible he does both…but I’m hoping she clears this up…

Also, I don’t care about this Elder wand stuff! I want to know who the new Hogwarts Headmaster/mistress is!

Avatar Image says:

Honestly, if you didn’t get why Draco was the master of the Elder Wand or how Neville got the sword you seriously must have not only forgotten the finer points of Potter lore but also you read way too fast.

Avatar Image says:

Jo, thank you for the incredibly positive impact you have made on my life, and the lives of so many others… but today is about YOU, so have a blast! <3

Avatar Image says:

“Abstenence” was the Gryffindor password!Lol.

Im so glad that she’s answering allt he questions that I was too stupid to get while reading. I got so confused by the sudden information overload. Neville was my favorite in the book hands down!

Avatar Image says:

The epilogue is set 19 years later, Ron like Ginny could have had two jobs during that time. Ginny started out as a Quidditch player and then became a sports columnist when she started her family. So there is no contradiction with Ron working in the family business before becoming an Auror. In past books when anyone lost their wand they usually got it back soon after from the person who took it, therefore they became master again of their wand.

Avatar Image says:

fine explanations. The Prince’s Tale just makes me cry. thanks forever, Jo—and happy birthday! =)

Avatar Image says:

I agree with mamny of the other posters that I understood most of this stuff when I read the book, but I know my brother didn’t ‘get’ it all. I guess alot of these queries are arrising because we all read the book so quickly. I know I couldn’t put it down ‘till I’d finished and was pretty tired at the end! So I’m re-reading it. Making sure I didn’t miss ANYTHING! And it’s just as good second time around!

Avatar Image says:

I was going back over the past books to try and figure out how old Voldermort was and in The Chamber of Secrets, it says ‘The Chamber’ was opened 50 years ago. Harry was born in 1980 in the story line, so in year two at 12 is 1992, the chamber opened in 1942. Voldermort was a prefect when he catches Hagrid with Aragog (5th year to 7th), which means Voldermort is 65-67 in year two. Something I read in Deathly Hollows bothers me though, in a memory in the penseive, Harry sees Voldermort welcomed his first year by Lucius Malfoy the head boy or prefect in Slytherin (again 15-17y/o), so that makes Lucius 70-72 in year two and by Deathly Hollows is 77-79!! years old!! he’s never shown to be that old in the story … Only mistake, but quite a large one messing up the back history.

Avatar Image says:

Anyone know better on the age of lucius matter?

Avatar Image says:

Ryan – could it be that you’re mixing up Voldemort and Snape?

Avatar Image says:

From the chapter “The Princes Tale”: And Severus Snape moved off to the other side of the Hall, away from Lily, to where the Slytherins were cheering him, to where Lucius Malfoy, a prefect badge gleaming upon his chest, patted Snape on the back as he sat down beside him …

Avatar Image says:

“I dont want to go encouraging teenage pregnancies” – Jo has such a sense of responsiblity in her writing! Happy Birthday JK.

Avatar Image says:

Confused, how come Neville got the Sword?? Goblins already took it when they were in the gringots. About the Elder wand, Is Snape stooled Draco’s wand before he “Avadra Kedavra” Dumbledore?? I think Jo was not really concentrate when she was processing the book 7.

Avatar Image says:

My opinion is: some of you have read the book too fast and that’s probably the reason you have so many doubts. Because you are confusing many things, and they are very well explained in the book. I have many doubts too, but for example the thing about the wands or Dumbledore’s plan is perfectly explained.

Happy birthday Harry and Jo!

Avatar Image says:

Ryan, you made a mistake with Lucius. It was Lucius who was prefect when SNAPE came to his first year at Hogwarts.

Avatar Image says:

Lian, no, Jo is fine, it’s YOU who didn’t concentrate on the book hard enough. Snape did not steal Draco’s wand. DRACO DISARMED DD AND BECAME MASTER OF THE ELDER WAND. Snape was never the master of the Elder wand….that was another Voldemort mistake.

The Neville/Sword thing has been so explained so many times already it’s just not worth it. Your answer is in Jo’s recent online chat.

Honestly, after each new book I read about people bragging about how they finished it in some impossible time frame, like five or six hours. I never understood how anyone could do that, but now I get it. You don’t actually read, you skim. And then spend weeks asking the same questions over and over again.

Avatar Image says:

i liked the fact that there where big surprises in the end, i would never’ve guessed that it was dumbledore that asked snape to kill him and that snape was on the “good side” until the end.. i didn’t like him that much, but it’s easier to understand him, and like him now… thank you j.k.rowlings for all the hours i’ve spent with harry potter, it feels as if i really knew him..

Avatar Image says:

It was a wonderful book, it moved along so quickly. I couldn’t put it down. I was sitting on the beach reading it, surrounded by other people clutching their books. Thank you Jo, and happy birthday, Harry!

Avatar Image says:

Happy B-Day Jo and Harry!!!!! You both have had a huge impact on my life!!!! Thank you sooooo much!

Question to anyone who can answer… perhaps I’ve read too fast, or just missed something but can anyone help me understand how Ron and Hermione got out of the Chamber of Secrets, when it took Fawkes to get the boys out (and Ginny, and Lockhart) in CoS? Wasn’t it really deep and all caved in? It is just something that I can’t figure out!!!

Avatar Image says:

Happy birthday Harry and Jo! Both of you changed my life!

About the professions, I think Jo changed her mind since the last interview, I think she has the right to do so, why wouldn’t she be able to think about something and then think it better and wanted to change it? Some of you are too picky with her. I know she said both Harry and Ron become aurors, but I think she changed her mind and Ron works with George. So Hermione and Percy work at the Ministry, Harry becomes Head of the Aurors, Ginny is a Qudditch player and then she become a journalist. And I think there are still people we don’t know what they do. Do Arthur still wrok at the Ministry? man, the Ministry becomes their second home lol

Avatar Image says:

Audrey, I think they fly out of the Chamber of Secrets on a broomstick. Ron is holding one when they come back.

Avatar Image says:

aw, it’s really over guys. ah, i love jo. she’s great. i believe the book is really clear with stuff, but i read it too fast the first time, and i just finished rereading and now i understand it much better =]

LOVED the book I didin’ intended to read SO fast but i just kept on readin it, ad I didin’t want anyone or anthing to spoil it!!!

I’m glad on how it finished and I hope that she continues the series maybe not right away but sometime in the near future…....

NOW i can read everything everyones is saying and it feels good!!!

HAPPY birthday to JO and HARRY, from EL SALVADOR, CENTRAL AMERICA

Avatar Image says:

Jube – You are probably right that Ron filled in for (dead) Fred for awhile, and then went onto the Auror office with Harry. But like goodguyseatpie, it would be nice to hear a word from Jo (happy birthday to you!) regarding this. Perhaps we shall have to wait for the Encyclopedia for the minutia. And seriously, I can’t complain about that. After my first read through the book, I’m listening to Jim Dale’s excellent reading at a slow and leisurely pace. It is amazing how “listening” you pick up on so many details you skim over while reading. What a great experience this has been :)

Avatar Image says:

i understood the elder wand thing and the sword thing when i read it too! idk… maybe ppl read to fast… but yeah… i kinda hoped for better questions… though i did like the one about it being 19 years later… i was just having a talk about that with someone…

Any chance Leaky might compile a list of all of this info? I don’t have time to go and read it all (in school right now), and I’d love to have a definitive list :) :)

Avatar Image says:

People need to stop putting down other people for asking questions or not understanding certain aspects of the book!... or automatically asuming that because someone doesn’t understand- they must not have read the book good enough.. I do agree that most of us read it fast, but I still respect people’s questions. Jo certainly does not criticize people for their questions, but merely answers them and thanks her fans for being so obsessed. If those of you that are irritated that people are not getting stuff, or asking repeated questions, why not help people not have to ask again by spending some energy answering a couple, rather than complaining!!

Avatar Image says:

I don’t think that everything was “crystal” clear but I took my time reading and I have even been reading some chapters over again (most of the ones that I was crying so hard it was difficult to read)... but I can’t believe that it’s over. And that’s why I took my time. I limited my reading (or sould I say that my son did)and was able to really enjoy my last adventure with Harry. Although the book finally finished tying up a lot of loss ends… I still wonder what James and Lily did for a living??? I thought that it would be important to Harry not only to find out where they lived and where their graves were but also to know what they did for a living, or how did they out matched “Tom Riddle” three times… those where the ones that I still have after I finished reading. I love Jo, she’s a great author and I know whatever she wants to write about next I’ll be reading. Thanks Jo for all the adventures that I have taken with Harry and the “soon to take” trips with my son.

Avatar Image says:

In the MSNBC interview, it says that Jo doesn’t think that Snape is a hero, but in the transcript she says : J.K. Rowling: Yes, I do (think Snape’s a hero); though a very flawed hero. An anti-hero, perhaps. He is not a particularly likeable man in many ways. He remains rather cruel, a bully, riddled with bitterness and insecurity – and yet he loved, and showed loyalty to that love

J.K. Rowling: and, ultimately, laid down his life because of it. That’s pretty heroic!

I think Snape is a brave hero and one of my favorite characters. What do you think?

Avatar Image says:

Something is ever so wrong with the text only page… lots of the posts aren’t appearing at all, including the webchat transcript which I’ve only just found out exists! :(

Avatar Image says:

So having a baby before 25-26 is teenage pregnancy? That’s kinda a closed minded opinion… If I had never stopped going to school, I could have had a baby as soon as 21 or 22, but now I have to finish college first. I think anyone who finished their education and/or has a steady job is ready to have a kid. But that’s just my opinion. Oh well.

I liked the clarification on Draco, even though it’s kinda the second time she said it. When I saw info on Draco I hoped it would be who he married though, but no such luck… oh well :)
