Dumbledore-gay!!..wow..I always wondered why Dumbledore did talk weirdly about Grindelwald..LOVE..the most powerful magic in the world, I was not really curious why Dumbledore never married..but all this time, he is gay!!But now that I know why, still, it doesn’t change what I think about Albus Dumbledore-the best Hogwarts Headmaster evr..Rock on!!! Its weird to see how angry people are about Dumbledore. Can people really that offended that someone loved another person? Anyhow I always got a gay vibe from him, and I’m glad that she can just say it.
to those who say it was unnessassary: I don’t agree I think it adds depth to his character and also answers a lot of questions. It never hurts to know more about a character.
I don’t know how you can all fall for this crap, Dumbledore was not gay, she said it to get a reaction. And who cares what sexuality someone is, they are supposed to be childrens books. Why you all think she is sooo great and insightful is beyond me, yes I read the books, even enjoyed them but not one of her ideas is in the least bit original.
I loved these books, and this interview was very insitefull. I think, besides her sence of humor, that JKR is an amazing writer, and made the books how she wanted them, but also to appeal the public eye. If she had made them for certain people only, like just kids or just adults for instance, then the stories of course would have not been as good. She is an author of great talent and everything about the Harry Potter series came out just the way it should have.
I thought that this was a childrens book. I happen to be very tolerant and have many gay friends, but their is no place for this in a children’s book where many reading and watching have never been exposed to that before. I believe many parents will be very upset.
Just wanted to add something..This is big news for those who love this book, and now my 8 year old neice is asking her mother what it means to be gay. My sister is FURIOUS, and I don’t blame her. It’s not that she wants her daughter to be close minded, but it’s not something that she was ready to discuss with her. Thanks JKR. You sure thought about your audience.
I don’t think Dumbledore’s sexuality is that important. It doesn’t change who he was and it doesn’t change how I feel about the series. She said more in that interview than that Dumbledore fell for his best friend. It’s not that epic. How about whether or not Snape was really a good guy? Or why Lupin was discriminated against as a werewolf? Or why she made Harry into a horcrux? These are all more interesting topics than Dumbledore’s sexuality. I don’t hate gays I just don’t see the point in celebrating or booing a character’s sexuality when it didn’t even come up in the book.

To suppose that Dumbledore’s association with Grindelwald was based on romantic interest trivializes the book’s treatment of a profound literary theme: the allure of power. That theme recurs throughout literature and lies at the cores of several other sci-fi / fantasy epics to which the Potter series is inevitably compared. It also ruins a depiction of a male relationship characterized by admiration and affection that, heretofore, had nothing to do (that I noticed, anyway) with sex or romance—this sort of depiction was once commonplace and carried with it no lascivious suggestion of homosexuality. Too bad that anyone who has been entertaining that sort of speculation has been rewarded.

well, that was unexpected! lol, ian mckellan would have done a great job. but it also says that he WAS gay, then reverted to celibite lifestyle and went for books…so technically one could make the assumption that dumbledore was not attracted to either sex, or that the pain he felt completley disrupted his sexuality, and he became a veeeeeery confused man…
i think that is the Dumbest thing i have EVER heard in my life if thats true than she just wants atenchion because Albus Dumbledore is a great man!!!i think that she just mad that up!!!!

i think it’s intresting that dumbledore’s gay, because that explains so much, but i myself dont really go for gays, I dont have much sympathy for them. Still, i think it was brave of JRK to tell the world that. There are gonna be a heck of a lot of debates on this. So I too salute you!
