Several months ago actor Dan Radcliffe said he very much wanted to reprise his role in the play “Equus” for a production to be held on Broadway next year. This morning our Order partner DanRadcliffe.com has confirmed the play with Dan in the lead role is set to happen, with “Equus” due to open here in the United States September of 2008. Along with Dan, fellow Harry Potter star and Tony Award winning actor Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon) will return again in the play which was such a success in London’s West End earlier this year. The Daily Mail is also reporting today that the play will go into rehearsals in New York City starting August of 2008. No ticket information is yet available, and we will update with more on this exciting news when we can.

I just have to go now that they are doing it here US. This is probably going to be the only time that I will be able to see anybody that has anything to do with HP, let alone Dan. I love this because it finallly gives be an excuse to go to New York. I have always loved traveling (this summer I visited Los Angeles, Toronto, and London) but I was hoping to when I would be able to afford it better. Last year I was working full time but this year I started school and only have a part time job so paying for a trip to New York and one to Portus in Dallas is going to stretch to afford. Not to mention that I will be also be missing school next year to go see it. This causing me both joy and a headache. =)

Grapes, two projects of the same actor released at the same time is not really ideal. But my mistake, I misread the date. I thought there was only a gap of one month between HBP and Equus. Since HBP will be released in November, and Equus will start in September, that will give Dan 2 months to do his stint in Broadway. Aparently, it won’t be a 16 week run like the west end. I guess he’ll stop doing the play once the HP movie hits the theaters. UNless he really won’t care and still go on being Alan Strang onstage while promoting HBP.

I wish I could go and watch Dan on broadway. It would be interesting to compare the difference in his performance now that he’s older and in a different venue. He was just 17 when he did Equus on the West End. A relative neophyte taking on a huge, difficult role. Dan will be 19 when he reprises his role on Broadway with 2 years of experience behind him.

Half Blood Prince Harry is actually pretty snarky and self-absorbed. I wouldn’t call him a goody-two shoes in that book. The play and film will probably receive positive feedback both independently.

My mind is at ease now. Someone at the EW forum reported that HBP will be released on NOvember 21, 2008. That means about 8 weeks of Broadway run for Equus. Or Dan could step down to do the HBP promotions and his role will be played by his understudy.

Anyways, that still means that Dan will live in the US for many months. Hope he doesn’t get pulled in the Hollywood party scene while he’s living in the “den of iniquities”. lol. Just kidding…

The song “An Englishman in New York” by Sting keeps running through my head! While I would prefer to see Dan do something different (as I have already seen him do Equus), I have heard he was getting better and doing different things, like his comedic timing (started rivalling Griffiths in the amount of laughs he was getting) and subtle movements that added to the performance. So seeing him use all that will be new for me, I guess. Just can’t wait to see him.

Hey…any idea how long this will last? I’ll be in NYC next year for Thanksgiving, and I really really really want to see Equus, but none of the articles say how long the show will be there.

This is awesome news, I’m very happy for Dan. It’s GREAT for an actor to play in Broadway, but it’s AMAZING to play in Broadway if you are 18 years old!! Don’t know if I’m the right person to say this, but I’m very proud of him. Not just because this will mean a lot of publicity for HBP (OotP made a lot of money inpart because Dan has been given free publicity for HP al the year), but also because the actor and face who represent this franchise is the most versatil actor of his generation. Btw, he is being considered for several theatre awards in UK at the moment. :)

Sue,maybe know you’ll be able to see the play, and Melissa and John will be able to see it with Richard!! :D

‘From The Daily Mail “But Radcliffe came into his own as an actor on stage, a fact acknowledged by the London Evening Standard’s drama award judging panel including him in its best actor nominees long list.”

“I like him because he decided to put being an actor first, rather than play at being a star.”’

Thanks for that piece of news Kathlin. He totally deserves to be in that list. I saw him in Equus in London (unfortunately I can’t go to NY) and he did a brilliant job. I couldn’t believe that was his first stage serious work. He not only was confortable on stage but gave an amazing performance in his characterization of Alan Stang. And that is the more difficult character of that age to portray. It requires all from the actor. Amazing. And the nomination is for best actor, not best newcomer. The critics already consider him a proper actor, not a promise. faints

Being a Dan fan is a very rewarding joy! Go Dan, blow them away once more!! Break a leg in Broadway and show them all you can do!

a concerned ickle firsty: THe play’ll probably be rated PG-13 if it’s not too graphic, but it’ll probably be rated R if what the nudity thing is more than just running around naked with a hoofpick.

OMG! I’ll shave my head and sell a kidney if I have to, but I’m taking my 15 year old to NY as soon as we have a confirmed play date! We live in Spokane, Washington--completely on the opposite side of the country from NYC—but we’re going. GOING, I say!!! wooooo-hoooooooo!!!!
