There are a few pieces of news tonight regarding the newly announced “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” theme park coming to the Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
First, for those that missed the news before, the HarryPotter/Universal website we told you about the other night is indeed open, and contains a place for fans to register for alerts, the text of the announcement, as well as some detailed FAQs about this park. As we have received many owls on this subject, please note the site specifically says the park may open “late 2009 or early 2010.” Also new is an edited version of the webcast announcement (the original here on our Youtube channel), with additional footage of the Dumbledore’s office set. You can download this new announcement video via our galleries.

The second piece of news is regarding some of the new features which are rumored to be part of the new Harry Potter section of Universal, specifically some of the rides. Readers will remember several years ago that a blogger named Jim Hill reported the first of the Harry Potter theme park rumors with Disney; tonight Mr. Hill has a new report on what he believes some of the purported new rides are to be, including one involving the Weasley Family car. In response to the “state of the art” attraction mentioned in the Universal announcement, Jim Hill writes the following on what he believes this attraction will be:

A big “E” Ticket attraction. Which — as you may have already heard — will be a state-of-the-art family-friendly thrill ride that will then allow IOA guests to first soar through the trees of the Forbidden Forest and then fly high above the grounds of Hogwarts inside of the Weasley family’s Ford Anglia. (FYI : This attraction will reportedly be housed inside of the soon-to-be-closed-and-gutted “Eighth Voyage of Sindbad” stunt show theater).

Other intriguing tidbits involve a racing coaster ride, with the piece stating “it’s be re-imagined as part of the Tri Wizard Tournament. Where brave wizards do battle with fierce dragons. With the hope that they’ll be able to win the Goblet of Fire” Also reportedly we will “get a chance to get a close-up look at the Goblet. Which — just as it appeared in the “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” film — will be displayed on an ornate pedestal with magical blue flames licking out of its top.”

In addition, Jim Hill reports this about a Hagrid’s Hut area: “Take — for example — that area’s “Flying Unicorn” kiddie coaster. According to what I hear, Universal plans on retheming this area so that you first queue up in the garden outside of Hagrid’s cottage. Then — after wandering through the Care of Magical Creatures teacher’s home — you then get the chance to board the now re-themed “Flying Hippogriff” kiddie coaster.”

While this all sounds very exciting, please keep this very much in the rumor category for now.
Thanks Justin!

Avatar Image says: I wanna go!!Avatar Image says: oh my gosh. getting to go in hagrid's hut. i think i'll die of happiness.Avatar Image says: Wow the Anglia and Hagrid's Hut! So Cool. Avatar Image says: my friend jenn is already planning our trip to florida...... lolAvatar Image says: This is too far in the future for me to get so excited about. I'll be squee-ing when it actually opens, though. :)Avatar Image says: I thought the 'state-of-the-art' attraction might actually be some sort of show involving live actors. Though flying in the Ford Anglia would be just as fun! Not too sure about the Hagrid's Hut attraction though, I think I'm a bit old for that (though I'll go on if I can convince a few friends lol)Avatar Image says: I love Leaky and Jim hill and I can say that Jim Hill is usually 85% always on the money with his posting with Disney and IOA ( Islands of Adventure) So even if not all of what he posted is true I would bet most of it is being talk about right by IOA officals . Avatar Image says: Uhhh... am I the only one LOL-ing at the thought of winning the Goblet of Fire? Avatar Image says: nope... =) your not!Avatar Image says: Woo! Woo again! Lol! He meant Tri-wizard Cup, of course. Lol again!Avatar Image says: Aaaand rumor was his naaaame-o! R-U-M-O-R, R-U-M-O-R, R-U-M-O-R, and rumor was his naaame-oooo!Avatar Image says: Um... this sounds a lot like a rumor. By the sounds of this, its seems as if they are just re-vamping Lost Continent (one of the islands that is there) into the Harry Potter world... if this is so, then Dueling Dragons will become the Triwizard cup ride and the castle around the dragons ride would be Hogwarts, the Flying Unicorn ride wouldnt have to change its name, the Sinbad would become the Car ride..... not liking the sound of this, and hopes its a rumor... i would rather them make a new park, than revamp Lost Continent to make HP world. Be original and make it from scratch than do a half effort job by making what you already have workAvatar Image says: I was thinking pretty much the same thing Camie(gingin77) just said, and I agree. I would much rather have them add to the park then just redo an already existing section.Avatar Image says: I'm planning to go to WWOHP as well as the world or domestic premiere of HPDH in London in 2010. It'll be my HP OE.Avatar Image says: Just a question. How can people win the goblet of fire? They want to win the triwizrd cup .Avatar Image says: Woow! That sounds s0o0 cool! I really wish it was in the UK though.I suppose the USA is better for theme parks-but it seems the USA get everything we want now ;( It would be amazing just to go there *goes off in a daydream*Avatar Image says: What about a Gringotts Bank rollercoaster ride? That could be a lot of fun.Avatar Image says: I cannot get over this....AHHH! I live about 45 mins away from Disney and Universal. But you all know what this means, right? Jo's coming to Floridaa!!!!!! I mean, it would make sense for her to come right? Yah :DAvatar Image says: The only problem with Universal is that the rides have such long, long lines compared to Disney. Still, glad they are doing this.Avatar Image says: Err..the part about revamping the Lost Continent is definitely not a rumor. I believe they even said it in the press release, that part of the section would be rethemed to fit Potter. The "racing coasters" aren't new and have been there since the park's opening eight years ago, but presumably they will be given a Harry Potter spin. If you look in Google Earth, you'll see that they don't have the room for an entire theme park, so much of the HP land will reside in the Lost Continent's current location. If you've been to the park, you'll note that the area already has a Potter-like feel. For example, the queue for Dueling Dragons ("the dueling" suspended coasters) takes place in a well-themed castle with a story involving Merlin.Avatar Image says: They should definitely do a Gringotts cart-themed roller coaster.Avatar Image says: Very, very sad to hear that the HP theme park is not a rumor. I loved HP until I heard this rumor, and the more I think about it, the more my appreciation for HP decreases exponentially. By signing up for this theme park, Jo is denigrating her own work. It's like Mozart's music made into ringtones... each time I hear a phone go off with a ringtone of Mozart, my appreciation for Mozart just diminishes. When I have kids, I will not be reading HP to them, even though I myself loved the books. I won't want them to get sucked into the commercialization of this franchise. I remember only too well my experience as a kid of going to Universal Studios. I was so excited, but when I got there my appreciation for many movies just diminished until I no longer liked them at all, because what these parks do is take something that might be interesting and neat and make it stupid, dull and completely insipid. The movies were the first step of this, the theme park is the next leap. After I read the last book, I will want nothing to do with HP.Avatar Image says: I would like to disagree with you robin on both points of Mozart and HP. I LOVE Avatar Image says: I would like to disagree with you robin on both points of Mozart and HP. I LOVE Mozart and have his ringtone becasue I love listening to his music. Same with HP- I can't wait to go to the thmemepark because I love HP. This park does not degrade hp, it is another show of appreciation for this wonderful series.Avatar Image says: Well put Jenn. It's also important to note that the Universal Studios reps said that they had to convince Jo and that Jo is only allowing it to give us fans the chance to experience in person the setting of her books and that she is working with them and Stuart Craig (movie set designer) to make sure its accuracy.Avatar Image says: robin, if you are sooooo discusted why would you even read the last book? if you are going to jump onto a soap box be prepared to not be a hypocrite.Avatar Image says: Yeah, so true all you hp fans! i am INCREDIBLY EXCITED about the hp theme park. i think jk rowling is the perfect judge. if she likes it, then it will be fabulous. if you have your own idea about what hp things look like, then you might not want to go.. but i have already been influenced by the movies so i'm just excited. shana you are so right. robin, just get over it. HP is a big thing because it is so great! i'm am so incredibly psyched for the theme park.. i bet it will be amazing. Avatar Image says:

Robin, who pissed in your cheerios? The theme park is going to be awesome and i, personally, cannot wait to go to it.
