"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" Hacker Hoax

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Rumors have been floating around the internet today concerning a ‘hacker’ obtaining a digital copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows from a Bloomsbury computer and posting the alleged ending on the web. Reuters is reporting this evening that a Bloomsbury spokesperson ‘declined comment on the hacker’s claims,’ while Kyle Good, a spokesperson for US publishers Scholastic, is warning readers ‘to be skeptical about anything on the Web that claims to have inside information on the book’s plot’ saying:

“There is a whole lot of junk flying around,” she said. “Consider this one more theory.”

It is highly unlikely that any documents containing information as well protected as the seventh Harry Potter book would be on a Bloomsbury computer and as Trend Micro, a computer security company, spokesman David Perry was noted as saying:

“We’ve had hypes like this on the last couple of Harry Potter books… There is a very high level of spurious information in the hacker world.”

I read this on the ohnotheydidnt LJ comm. There’s even a link to the “spoiler”. I read the first few lines, then jumped to the last few lines of the post. Looks very iffy.

Purpose of the post?

[The posting was made in an attempt to “make reading of the upcoming book useless and boring” to further help prevent “youngs of our earth” being converted by the books “to Neo Paganism faith.”]

Bunch of hogwash. Put on your skeptics caps, everyone!

So has anybody… read it? I saw the post on ONTD as well [yay ohnotheydidnt!] but even though this sounds completely rediculous I’m still way to afraid to read any of it…

It’s such a lame ending I don’t know why anyone believes it.

I went to the site, clicked on the link, read the first sentence…....and quickly exited out of it.

Can’t risk it…..

Well it’s getting about that time when I’m afraid to go to the HP sites just in case there are spoilers on them…I know Leaky said that they would not post any, which is a relief. However, the fear is there.

I might even bring my iPod with me to the book release so that I won’t hear if some loser shouts the ending, lol.

I am going to resist the temptation to click on the link and try to keep the book as unspoiled as possible for me.

Truly, whoever posted this – whether it is real or not – needs to find a hobby… Surely there is a greater form of pleasure than ruining the book and relishing with pleasure in so doing? Sad.

Well, I guess it’s time to reduce my list of sites I visit on a daily basis. I’m already down to just a few; pretty soon I may have to log off altogether until after July 21st. Really irks me when I think of all the OoTP movie news I’m going to miss.

Stupid hackers.

I really doubt that any of these so called 7th book are real. A lot of people make fanfictions. At one place I go a lot I saw a lot of fake books. So I would say just ignore anything you hear or read, not everything on the internet is true. Besides the books comes out in a month.

Two things First, I hope all will read this post and do what is necessary to clean up your computer. The link is a trojan horse spyware and for a while I was unable to get back to Leaky. I had to clean out the computer and than wait. I kept getting a 503 error when trying to get back to Leaky.

Second, I hope all who think we will not be bombarded with fake endings are not that nieve. I just love the creativity that they bring to us.

Like others I really think that this was a very elaborate hoax to do just whjat it did to me. Thank God for virus and spyware protection with instant alerts.

Well, thats it for me. It already starting. It just going to get worst from now on. I am going to stop coming on the Harry Potter sites until I read the last book. I don’t blame you Leaky Cauldron, I blame the spoilers. Good luck, happy reading and i’ll see you on the flip side.

I hope, and I think it’s possible. That Bloomsbury and Scholastic are making sure that every book store or place that is to sell the book on the day, the people that are let in for the midnight release, have to sign, then or before, a confidentiality agreement, like the bookstores, that they will not yell, talk about, or shout out what happens in the book whilst in the stores. Then, I would feel secure in going. Otherwise, I am just waiting for Amazon , to be safe.
