In Search of the Perfect Person for Won-Won

Previously we told you there was to be an open casting call in the coming weeks for the roles of young Tom Riddle as well as Lavender Brown for the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film. MTV now has an article online quoting director David Yates about his quest to cast the perfect person to play Lavender Brown, the girl who will capture WON-WON's fancy in the sixth Harry Potter film. The director has a test in mind, and it involves...snogging.

"You know what I'm going to do?" Yates said. "I never did this before, but I'm going to get Rupert together with the top five Lavenders, get him to come and read with them and snog with them. It's a chemical thing, and you want to feel that chemistry between them. That will help me decide." "Really?" Grint asked — since this was news to him. "Oh, wow, I didn't realize that. That's going to be interesting. It's going to be embarrassing."
Also confirmed in the article is that the role of Tom Riddle will not be performed at all by previous actor Christian Coulson. David Yates says
"I think Christian's a brilliant actor, and I thought it was a terrific piece of casting, but he's too old now," Yates said. ... "What I want is that equality of spirit," Yates said. "Someone who is odd, charismatic, cool, has a quite cold spirit which Voldemort embodies. If I find that, that's the most important thing."
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will begin filming later this summer and is due in theaters November, 2008. Thanks Ryan!

lool That’s awesome! And there’s a video of David and Rupert saying that: http://www.mtv.com/ overdrive/?vid=158910

Oh I see…I always thought that Christian Coulson is the best choice…I guess they can’t do anything with the age thing. =[

Wow, that does sound interesting, but I can’t help thinking it may just be a good idea since, of course, Ron spends such a large amount of time snogging with Lavender in book 6.

And that’s such ashame about not having Christian as the young Voldemort. It definately makes sense why they won’t have him reprise the role, but I thought he was just fantastic in Chamber of Secrets!

Oh God! Rupert will hate that; he’s such a shy guy. He looks very uncomfortable about it in that clip. Maybe having to make-out with 5 girls will help him get over that particular fear, especially considering all the snogging he’ll be doing in HBP. (Oh and of course DH ;). Well, they better!)

This is off-topic, kinda, but there’s a new video of the press conference today at this link:

They talk about the kiss, Emma says what she wants for Hermione’s character in book 7, and they talk about reading book 7. It’s really good.

Pick me! Pick Me! I love guys with red hair!

Haha! That’s pretty funny! Yet, like buthagrid said, a good idea!

I just love that he knows exactly what he wants! I can’t wait to see who are the lucky people, though I’m ganna be extremely jealous! xD

As if they weren’t going to have vast number of girls auditioning already, I bet this news boosts attendance even higher—if only to be one of the five who snog Rupert, even without becoming Lavender.

Girls, you can have him. My heart belongs to Matt Lewis; already appealing in his dedication to Neville’s characterization, he’s become an attractive fellow at age 17 (or thereabouts).

I still think they should use Christian. I’ve seen him and he really looks young. Not to be mean but I am just not a big fan of Yates. Its just my personal opinion. I really didn’t want him doing hbp.

ha! thats hilarious.

but i agree with Mags… well, in the fact that my heart belongs to a different cast member… that would be gary oldman!!!!

and i liked Christian Coulson. too bad that hes too old now… he was a great tom riddle.

also about rupert… I guess I can see why Yates wants to see how Rup works with other girls but i never saw Ron and Lav as having any chemistry

Wait—why not Coulson? What about the scenes with young adult Voldemort (the one we see visiting Hepzibah and coming to Dumbledore for the DADA job)? Am I missing something?

I am very interested in who will be cast to play Lavender. I am impressed they brought back Alfie Enoch for Dean Thomas. Lavender had previously been played by a black actor as well. I would be surprised if both Weasely characters were making out with black significant others. That would be some serious multiracialism from Hollywood for a movie with this age demographic.

kinda off topic but I don’t remember the guy who plays seamus being in any previews for movie 5. I hope hes not gone to. Don’t ask me why but I always liked him for seamus.

I really wanted Christian Coulson. I think he could still do it. What a shame!

Rose

That’s awsome! He’s just gonna make out with a bunch of potential Lavenders? That could be quite awkward though…

So it’s alright for them to hire a woman in her late 30s/early 40s to play Moaning Myrtle, but they can’t have Coulson play Tom? Pathetic… He was fantastic for the part!! I hate recasting!

Emma

padfootrocksmysocks – the name says it all – and i agree 100% – gary oldman, what a chameleon! he can be evil and ugly, or a sexy hero like sirius… drooool!! and a SERIOUSLY good actor (him and Jean Reno in the Professional – aka Leon – ROCKED!!)

and it’s a perfect person FOR Won-won, so it’s correct… but enough semantics!!

I reckon Rupert will be just FINE snoggin’ girls on set and in auditions – i mean, he is a teenage male right? he may be a little embarrased, but i reckon he’ll LOVE it ;)

Libby

OH WOW. That’s just.. ridiculously HILARIOUS! Rupert is so shy it seems, it’ll be really embarassing to have peopele watching him kiss girls he hardly knows… I feel for him and yet, I think he won’t mind. X)

I think they may have an even bigger line-up for Lavendar than they originally thought! :P Ah well, it’s more likely that they’ll find someone perfect for snogging this way then!
