Well it is not like the reviews are bad. The only negative things they really said was about trying to condense the longest book into this movie was difficult. Ohter than that, I thought they were pretty positive which is a good thing.

I agree with Colleen. It was pretty obvious that that would be of some concern to fans as well, but I wonder if it will upset average movie goers who don’t read the books if they don’t even know that OotP is based of the longest book of the series.

I like that Guardian article. Just the right amount of detail during the premiere. I like this quote: “It has become hackneyed to comment on Radcliffe’s obvious passage into adolescence, but in Phoenix the transformation is about much more than a square jaw and a broken voice.”

Dan’s passage is more dramtic in Equus so the critics might steer clear of that angle cause they wrote ad nauseam about that during the Equus days.

And it’s a miracle how Harry POtter is a big hit in Japan considering that they have to read the subtitles while watching the films. That’s so annoying. YOu miss so much cause you keep reading the subtitle. But Japan is a loyal crowd so they are rewarded by these world premieres.

I don´t think any of these mention the pensieve scene, or did I miss it?

I´m just very curious how they handled that…:)

Thea, It’s really not that irratating to read subtitles when you’re watching a movie. I’m dutch, so I have to read subtitles all the time. You get used to it and allmost everyone knows some english. I never really notice subititles until they are gone. Then it’s suddenly harder to follow the movie. And I would rather read subtitles, than watch it in my own language like the Germans do. that’s just awful.

I was extremely lucky enough to see the movie last night and I have to say it’s absolutely brilliant. Yes the book is very condensed, in fact there’s a lot of stuff there that you wouldn’t really understand if you hadn’t read the book, but some people will be disappointed that it’s not exactly the same. I thought it was wonderful though, really dark and adult and Dan Radcliffe is absolutely magnificent. Certainly not one for the kiddies, I can’t wait to see it again!

Marcie Hatter, did you like what they did with Snape´s Worst Memory? It is in the movie, or isn´t it?

Crikey, so many to watch, and so far many of these reports devote much of the footage to trailer clips, or Dan giving the same answer to the same question (The Kiss in particular). I wouldn’t complain if you guys used your editorial judgement and just posted the ones with new or entertaining info. Or put a star by one that is worth watching. Just a comment.

God… I can always tell when a critic isn’t a book fan (and most likely has never read them) ...I know that the movies are ‘supposed to be good on their own, independant of the books’ but really… that’s BS!

What I’m talking about is of course the Hollywood Reporter’s review. It’s so annoying that, from movies to movies, there are always a critic or two who feel they absolutely must expose just how much they don’t get Harry Potter. They just don’t understand at all. You have to be a book fan for that. Even movie fans who get that HP isn’t just a kiddie movie who should be just fun and special FX can’t really appreciate the universe (that is just my opinion). Yeah, Sure, in an ideal world, the movies would be able to stand on their own, but I am thankful that at least, when seen with a knowledge of the book’s universe, the movies can be truely enjoyable.

What I’m trying to say, Mr Honeycutt, is that no, Phoenix isn’t supposed to be a kiddy movie with no substance. “full of plot but little fun”.... geez, what an idiot. “Phoenix beging with a glum mood with Harry moping about…” Gee, I wonder why? Maybe because Harry saw someone die just a few weeks ago?! And that Voldemort came back and almost killed him too ??

Eh.. but why do I bother complaining? Those critics are never happy. Give them a Harry Potter film bloated with special FX and “fun” stuff and they’ll say it has no backbone, no depth … meh.

...gonna go see the other reviews in hope some lift my mood up….

I guess my biggest qualm with the reviews is that at least three that I have read in a relatively limited crop seem to suggest the magic vanishing. I guess if they see magic in terms of fantastical set pieces and the furniture that the The Times review so horribly described it is, then so be it, it is there flaw! But I, and I think many of the other fans, see it in much deeper (and incidentally dark and/or powerful) forms than the authors of these reviews. The idea of love and blood magic that the The Guardian seemed to mock is one of the most interesting mysteries of the story. And the idea of Occulmency, Legilimens, the Department of Mysteries, etc. is absolutely fascinating and undeniably magical.

I think that obviously the movie is condensed. But that is the reality of the books and their adaptations. Maybe the movie could have used an extra 15 or 20 minutes but I think that if Jo is happy with the movie, then it’s good enough for me. After all, this is her universe and her creation.

I am looking forward to it.

The Daily Mail one was really good. Most of them seem pretty good, only moaning about what we probably all expected, the amount that was cut and the lack of ‘fun’. I’m not sure what they mean by the ‘magic’ going, but the rest I’m pretty happy about.

Most film critics are just frustrated film makers,script writers and directors , so why care and bother with most of them. I want to see this film ,that is all that matters to me. If I enjoy it fine if I find I don’t it is up to me ,myself ,and I to deside.

I rented the new harry potter and the order of the phoenix game, it is so amazing! Hogwarts is so freakin’ huge! You can hear the hustle and bustle of a typical hogwarts school day filled with music from the films. If you have a wii and are a hp fan, you got to try it out!
