While I have issues with all the movies….cause we are such good book fans…I love the movies…and have to use “a bit of crowbar seperation there” and judge the movies on there own…this was a good movie, the way the did the newspaper was so cool! It was so much better than the Goblet of fire movie! But I was disappointed that there was no angsty Harry at the end with dumbledore…..but i will have to get over that…won’t I ;)
I wonder why it’s not doing as good as the other movies? Probably because when people saw the first few and realized how much was cut out they decided the following movies wouldn’t be any better.
Bravo to Carebie for being able to judge the movie on its own merits. I wish more book fans could do this. I saw the same problem with Lord of the Ring purists rolls eyes. Anyhow, OOTP is what finally got me to read the books and just beat out POA for my fave HP movie.
Congrats Daniel, Emma, Rupert and everyone else!
OotP was way much better than GoF! It sure beat SS as my fave HP movie! I agree that I was a bit disappointed too that the end didn’t had an angry Harry in Dumbledore’s office… But overall it’s a great movie. It has so much it it, for everyone! Well done, David Yates! I hope he will return for Deathly Hallows too. :)
I agree that OotP is a fantastic movie! I believe Dan Radcilffe once said that you have to realize that the books and the films are two completely different things and they should be treated as such. With that in mind, Phoenix certainly deserves the success it is receiving.
I liked OotP though felt it long for some reason when the other movies didn’t feel that way and were just as long in reality.
SS made the money it made because it was first and a lot of people went to see it not having a clue about Harry Potter, wanting to know what it was all about and probably came out dissapointed or feeling it was not their cup of tea.
I am surprised though, that OotP beat Chamber. HP must have gained quite a few more followers from the days of SS, (and the movie being good helps a lot too) but it’s certainly not for newcomers.
I fear for HBP. Out of all the seven books it’s the least magic heavy and now feels like nothing but a transition event between OotP and DH. Informative and dramatic but neither funny nor action oriented, some strictly movie fans might feel put off by the change of pace.
Oh well, at least DH returns the pace and ends the series with a bang.
I’ve seen the movie six times…in one week. I think it’s incredible that it’s still doing strongly in the box office considering Deathly Hallows’ release. It makes me wonder how it would’ve done had the book not been released a little over a week later.
Really, every single HP movie has been a blockbuster. Some do slightly better than others, but they are all winners, which is an amazing testimony to the quality of the stories, number 1, and-certainly not coincidentally-the extremely strong cast. I think about every great British actor still in the business has been in these movies. To think that Dan Radcliffe, in particular, will have carried the lead in 7 movies, all done in his childhood and teenage years, holding his own from the age of 11 against some of the greatest actors in the English-speaking world, is simply astounding. That young man deserves an OBE when the series is over.
Well here in my theater in Tampa they have already cut it down to one theater and are only playing it 3 times a day. They still have hairspray playing in three theaters so I see why hairspray out did OOTP this last weekend at the box office. Are all theaters are cutting back on the shows already? The Imax here is showing four times a day though.
It’s already been pointed out but why should I let that stop me—I think the publication of Deathly Hallows a week after release was a real disservice to the sales numbers for OOTP. I love the books and no matter how good the movies, I will read the books first if they are available and a brand new book and the last book to boot in the series must be read several times so that left little time to breathe let alone a see a movie. I am positive I would have gone to see OOTP more often if Deathly Hallows wasn’t casting its spell on me. OOTP is tied with POA as my favorite movie.
"But you're Muggles!" said Mr. Weasley delightedly. "We must have a drink! What's that you've got there? Oh, you're changing Muggle money. Molly, look!" He pointed excitedly at the ten-pound notes in Mr. Granger's hand.
Go ootp!
