According to the latest box office figures, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix continues to reach new heights both stateside and worldwide. With this weekend’s box office receipts totaling over $9.5 million, the fifth film in the series surpassed Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and is now in third place among the entire Harry Potter film series to date, with a total domestic gross of $262 million. Chamber is now in fourth place with $261 million, while Sorcerer’s Stone leads the pack with total a domestic gross of $317 million. Worldwide, Order of the Phoenix has earned a staggering $772 million in only 27 days of theatrical release.
My primary concern is that they don’t critically alter the outcome or change anything that critically alters the intent the intent or the ability to get where they are going. Also, why put things in or take things out that make the plot difficult to understand?
I really had to problem with Cho giving up the DA under the influence of Veritaserum. It allowed the DA to be caught without changing Cho’s ethics.
I had no problem with Neville being the one to find the RoR or giving Harry the Gillyweed. In the books both of these were attributed to Dobby, but it doesn’t matter because the plot advances normally and gets where it needs to go.
I object when they blast open the RoR which is not supposed to be assessible to anyone who does not know exactly what to ask for. I know they can repair the hole but now that the administration knows they can blast it open how is Neville supposed to keep the DEs out when he is using the RoR as the headquarters of the resistence? That is the kind of thing that bothers me.
El Caz, Rupert has already stated they’ll be Quidditch with Ron. I’d imagine a couple of scenes will be shot to bring some action into the plot before the climax.
The article is talking about total domestic box office, and OotP has already surpassed Chamber, even though it’s been out less than a month. Actually, for the 27th day (as of Monday) of the film being released, OotP is AHEAD OF ALL the other HP films. This can be seen at http://www.boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/chart/?view=daily&id=vs-harrypotter.htm.
There are very few films whose box office numbers I can’t help but take personally. Harry Potter films are in that category. I may find what I call flaws here and there, but I support them like a home sports team. A bit ridiculous, but I don’t care. It’s good to have some things you can still feel that way about. So I say, let’s give this newest and quite worthy HP movie extra longevity. Grab a friend and go see it again!
And Prisoner of Azkaban continues to be the low-grosser of the series, while Order of the Phoenix should surpass Goblet of Fire to become the 2nd highest grossing in the series.
A lot of PoA fans said that its low box office was due to its summer release date….obviously it wasn’t the case; people just didn’t like the movie. Glad to see a lot of people liked Order of the Phoenix, although I’m still wondering why Leaky hasn’t given us their thoughts on it…
Thats a lot of money! But were we expecting anything else?! Does anyone have any idea how longer it’ll be showing,my friends away till the 2nd and I don’t want her to miss it :(

What is incredible to me is the non-American market. I do not remember any film that has done so well in other countries. It will be interesting who they pick for film 7
please not the one from film 3. It still is a wonder to me why WB did not use a hit man on him. But he is a nice guy.
I have to say I loved OOTP. In my opinion the best one by far. David Yates’ filming style finally made a HP movie that felt smooth(people who haven’t read the book won’t realize how much is gone). And it was the first time I wasn’t bugged by Daniel Radcliffs acting. The first time I was able to really focus on the greatness of the movie. Not saying I could do better by the way, just so happy to see him get emotional(happy/sad) and not be forced. YAY! props to Dan for working so hard. I am so excited David Yates is doing the 6th and also hope to see him do the 7th. I think he has brought the HP movies to a new and substantaily higher level. Oh, and I’ve seen it twice and the second time looked at the people who weren’t nessessarily in the foreground and there’re a lot of things going on there. Loved all of Ginny’s expressions everytime Cho was around or mentioned. Fun fun!
The only reason I don’t want Yates directing the 7th one (although I loved the work he did on the 5th one and I look forward to the 6th one,) is because the 7th one’s heavy in the action scenes and the “magic” and Yates doesn’t seem as gifted at those as some other directors. (The Thestral flight was so short and magic-less…)
Id be more impressed if some of that money was going to the actors/actresses who starred in the movie. In other words, forget about the 20mil Daniel made. Id rather see him take home 20% of the profits lol
WOW, it’s only been in theaters for 27 days and already beat out CoS, which far surpassed PoA. I don’t know how people can defend PoA when the numbers say it all. Anyways…Horray for OOtP it was awesome I saw it 3 times!
He had patched up his wand with some borrowed Spellotape, but it seemed to be damaged beyond repair. It kept crackling and sparking at odd moments, and every time Ron tried to transfigure his beetle it engulfed him in thick gray smoke that smelled of rott
