Crongrats to Emma, Dan, and Rupert too (for getting nominated =]) and Go OOTP! Woohoo I love the six of ‘em! (Evanna, Bonnie, Emma, Matt, Dan, Rupe). amnd those of you who are sulking over the fact that Rupert didn’t get the award…chillax, he’s fine with it. He’s not the type of guy who flips out cuz he didn’t get an award. Dan and Rupe are good friends and won’t want fans ripping each other apart on the web over this award. Personally, I think they both deserved it…all the people nominated that night deserved it. It’s up to the people (not just Potter heads, Dan clubs, or Rupert
Me! club) to give support to who ever they want.

‘I am so suprised, Ian. I, sir/madame, am 52 years old. I remember actors/actresses, that dwarfed Leo DiCaprio, Johnny Dep and many of the current “stars”. Everyone, dear, starts somewhere. I, too, think Mr Radcliffe has gotten off to a brilliant start. As some one pointed out, earlier, yes some are “better” over all, than Mr Radcliffe, Miss Watson and Mr Grint. However, they did not put in their “best performances” this round. The awards, given, were for portrayals in OOtP.Theirs were given for their particular roles. Respectfully, sir/madame, sometimes the more experianced actor/actress does not “shine”, in a particular role.Nuf said. Kudos, again, to Dan,and Emma! Great Job, kids!’
Gail Callicott, totally agree with you and, by the way, I am 38 years old. I love Johnny Depp, he is one of the greatest out there but I voted for Dan Radcliffe in this. Johnny’s performance didn’t move me at all in POTC3. It was a repetition of the previous movies. He didn’t add anything, in my opinion. But Dan’s performance moved me to tears, I felt the character deeply in my heart and he had several absolutely brilliant scenes. And he was only 16-17 when he did OotP.
What I want to say is this, if you have to vote just for who the actor is instead of the performance he gives, what is the point of giving awards? The big names would get the prizes no matter what they do. I sincerely think Radcliffe deserved this and that is the reason I voted for him. And I am extremely happy he won. He is a very talented young man who works very hard to improve and obviously he is on the way to become one of those great British actors that delight our senses with their performances.
I am a theater freak and saw him in Equus. That was SOMETHING. I got out of the theater with this feeling that this young actor has much to offer to anybody that cares to pay attention to his art. And what I saw in OotP was the confirmation that Equus wasn’t just a matter of fortune. He is an actor, and a great one. One day, if he follows this line, he will be brilliant.
Congrats to him, Emma and the cast and crew for getting the award for OotP.

i taped the awards last night (i was out drinking hehe) and watched them this morning and OMG I love Harry Potter so much but Daniel and Emma should NOT have won! Daniel Radcliffe was against Daniel Craig, Daniel Craig should have sooo won and Emma is a terrible terrible actress and Judi Dench should have won hands down! How on Gods green earth did Emma Watson beat Judi Dench?? Its like, eh thats not natural. Clearly all the voters were just kids who love Harry Potter and acting talent was not a factor. I’d love to hear other people’s opinions so please reply lol

ooh i forgot to mention that Rupert is a better actor then Daniel by far and I would have prefered him to win but Daniel Craig was cleary the best actor in that character. And i would have even prefered Kiera Knightley to win instead of Emma and I DISPISE KIERA KNIGHTLY with a passion hehe. Personally out of all the HP cast I think James and Oliver and Evana have the best acting ability…what are your thoughts?

The NMAs are basically what we have in the States called the People’s Choice Awards. I don’t know why people are so shocked at the winners. The box office grosses for the films basically dictate the winners… people pay to see their favorites.
Hey guys, stop trying to cut down Emma about her dress. I realize many of you are jealous of her and probably feel better about yourselves by bashing her, but it’s absolutely ridiculous. RIDICULOUS. She looks lovely and most of us could only dream of looking so pretty. So hush.

Kerrie, with all my respects, and as you ask for other people’s thoughts here are my own.
Radcliffe was the best in his character and more so considering how young he is. Daniel Craig was very good but he didn’t achieve what Dan achieved in the character he was playing. Evanna was very good as Luna but she was playing herself. No material to give a performance worthy of any award anyway. The Twins, come on, you must be joking. No acting abilities at all there. They are just funny. Rupert better than Dan? OMG, have you honestly watched the movie? Sometimes I feel people mix ‘having acting abilities’ with ‘how funny actors are on screen’.

Thestralseyes- TOTALLY agree with you! It’s so easy to like a character like Ron because he’s funny. But Rupert hasn’t been really pushed in the films in terms of acting. Dan on the other hand is pushed way further than anyone of his age in any role that I can think of. That made the voting choice easy for me, much as a like Rupert.

It’s not Rupert’s fault that his character gets slighted in the film, but as an actor he has as wide a range as Dan if not more. He also always manages to come across as more natural while critics have always described Dan as slightly wooden. Just watch Rupert in Driving Lessons, you have both comedy and depth in one character and he manages just fine. Again, I think all the young Potter stars were quite aware that these awards had nothing to do with talent but had everything to do with popularity among the younger fans. Heck, everyone was aware of that, Judi Dench had a huge smile across her face when Emma won. Surely she wouldn’t have if she thought this was a “serious” sort of award. ;)

On a lighter note, it was funny when OOTP won the family award and then they almost forgot to take the award! Hilarious!

Just saw the clips on Dan’s web site. They’re a lot of fun. If you didn’t see the show, you should check them out.
Rupert looked FABULOUS in his “Blues Brothers” suit. It took some time, but Rupert’s style has grown on me. I LOVE IT!
Dan looked truly shocked when he won. His speech was very gracious and he is never without that WONDERFUL sense of humor. His line about winning over Daniel Craig was priceless!
Emma was GREAT and also looked very surprised when she won. I laughed when she forgot the “Best Family Film” trophy and rushed back to get it. And when the show host was kidding about a Dan Radcliffe vs Daniel Craig sort of thing, she was cheering and clapping for Dan. Gotta love these “kids”!
I know we don’t discuss the personal stuff on Leaky, but Dan and Emma seem to be genuinely fond of one another. They’re really lovely people and I think they would be an ADORABLE couple! :)big smile

Personally, I totally agree with Venni. I think he made perfect sense, maybe the person who didn’t understand are not very good with logical thinking, or maybe they understoo but didn’t have any comebcaks, cause they were logically defeated.
I agree that it’s a given that in such commercial flickes like HP, it doesn’t much matter how big or small the “First Girl”’s role (Like Venni calls it), it doesn’t even matter how well or badly it’s acted, it only matters that she is The Girl of the show, and it helps if she’s got some good looks too. For a long time, Emma was even The Only girl of the show, which does give her a special status away from anything else, and regardless anything else. And Emma as Hermione has not only that “First Girl” status, but also has the bigger role, the more lines, the more important lines, and then even the more focused promo!
Anyone with a 1/4 brain can see that her position is totally differnt from Rupert’s, and comparing them is such a stupid thing IMHO.
Dan is secured in his position as the main character that has the franchise name itself, and Emma is secured in her “First Girl” place, while Rupert is only left with his small “sidekick” place, AND with a maimed version of his book character! Really, it’s quite a miracle the kid has any fans at all IMO!

Just for the record, my personal fave out of the kids, is Matt, I think he’s the one with the best acting abilties out of all the HP kids. So, yeah, the former post has nothing to do with favoritism, it’s bare facts of the market.

Kerrie, Go get a needle and stick it in your butt ,to let the hot air out cause you seem to be full of it,then maybe you will feel better.

My New York Mets are losing BIG today, so I’m trying to find solace on Leaky!!!
Kerrie, I disagree with you about the Phelps twins. Neville is one of my favorite characters and I think Matt Lewis is the best “kid” actor in the films. I would love to see him get more screen time.
I’m still disappointed that the scene with Neville and his parents at St Mungo’s was left out of OoTP. Neville’s character was clearly very important during the battle at Hogwarts in DH. I hope we’ll see that reflected in the movie version.

Dan’s face was priceless. He really did not expect to win. Emma’s was just as shocked.
I expected the NMA’s are our equivalent to the People’s Choice Awards. Personally, it’s an excellent idea. Why shouldn’t the public be allowed to pick who they like best, for whatever reason it may be. It certainly makes all the hard work easier to bear. And for what the Harry Potter franchise has done for British film, I think giving those kids a few moments to shine is just fine!
