This is a little late but Scottish people can watch it on ITV1 London if they have sky (channel 993).

I lmow this is a little off subject, but dose anyone know if podcast did a commentary for any of the HP movies?? thanks for any help

Cheers to Dan, Emma, and OotP for winning! And to Rupert for being nominated as well! Well deserved all around!
All the cast members look so great, I can’t wait to see them in HBP!

Great, I think Radcliffe absolutely deserved it, he was perfect in OotP, but not sure about the movie and Watson. Anyway congratulations to everyone!

I am not at all surprised that Dan and Emma won the NMA’s for Best Actor and Actress. But I am also certain that the voting for these awards was based on popularity, not performance.
Please do not misunderstand me – I find Dan and Emma wonderfully appealing. But I doubt their most avid fans seriously believe that their acting abilities rival those of Judi Dench or Johnny Depp. The performances given by Dench and Depp over the years speak for themselves. Dan and Emma also seem to be very bright people. I think they would also agree that their skills are not in that class.
In my opinion, the British/Irish acting community is the VERY BEST ON THIS PLANET and Dan and Emma will likely have the honor to work with many of these wonderful actors and actresses in the future. I hope they will learn as much from them as they can. They’ve already been privileged to work with the likes of Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Imelda Staunton, Richard Griffiths, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Maggie Smith, Ralph Fiennes, Miranda Richardson, Brendan Gleeson, Helena Bonham Carter, and Victoria Wood. I’m sure I’ve missed more than one great name…the list seems almost endless!
I would love to see Dan, Emma, and Rupert included in this community of amazing actors one day, but I think it’s fair to say they are not there yet. But one day, maybe???

my dear da—something … Emma is the most main girl in the films, so, basically, she IS the lead girl.
In the books, Hr is an equal to R, yes, but the books do not really put a lot of weight in that little difference of genders, while the films industry does, and so Emma as Hr is the lead girl.
Emma doesn’t have any other girl to be 2nd to in the importance of her role, while Rupert has Dan as the very main character to be 2nd in importance to.
If anything you are the one being lame, and sorry to say sort of blind, and impractical if you can not see how things really are.
Personally I’m not fond of anyone of them in particular, I think they’re okay, lots of flaws maybe, but they do, for films like HP anyway.
P.S: it seems absurd to me that you only replied to me just to tell me that Rupert is bad, when my posts weren’t about him in particular. Do you have a special grudge against the kid or something? Cool with me, just don’t call me lame in your way!

Emma actually said it best in her acceptance speech when she thanked the fans for voting for Hermione. ”... and me, I guess…” were her following words. I think that proves that she was pretty well aware that she got that award due to her popularity and the popularity of the HP franchise and not due to her talent as an actress.

I was pretty sceptical about these awards when I first heard about them, but I sat down to watch them regardless and I have to say I was won over. The excited reaction of Judi Dench when Casino Royale won for Action Adventure film just showed me that these awards were appreciated by all who won and were nominated, because they represented the audience view of films that are made specifically to entertain.
We don’t have any film awards (apart from Empire awards which are not really that mainstream) on this side of the pond that represent the public’s view, only industry awards like the BAFTA‘s, so it was a nice change for fun films and the performances in them to be getting kudos for a change.
For everyone saying they were just a popularity contest, you‘re right, but that‘s not a bad thing. The point of the NMA was to reward the films and performances that the public enjoyed best! It wasn’t about the ‘best’ actor of the year it was the NMA for Male Performance of the year as voted by the viewing public. And part of that would be the popularity of the character being played on screen as well as the actor.
Of course Emma Watson is not as good an actress as Judi Dench yet, no-one would expect her to be. But this was Emma Watson as Hermoine winning over Judi Dench as M in Bond. And Judi Dench seemed very happy for Emma to get the award, she had a big smile on her face. I really think that the young performers in the HP films are well liked in the industry and their elders in the acting business like to see them doing well and getting recognition for their work. All of the kids have come on leaps and bounds in their performances since PS.
So instead of pointing out all the flaws, just offer congratulations!!
And leave those poor girls and their outfits alone. All of the girls looked very stylish. I particularly like Bonnie’s sense of style here, very bohemian colours that suit her red hair and are very in at the moment, at least in Britain and Ireland (yes even black tights and silver shoes – very funky), and Emma always looks very well. She’s becoming a proper little fashionista!!

Hi Ponette,
I’m not surprised to hear she said that in her acceptance speech. From some of her past interviews, I think Emma is very self-aware, particularly for someone at her age. I adore Hermione and I adore Emma. I think she is a very classy, well-grounded young lady with Hermione-ish brains to boot! I never thought she would consider herself on a par with Judi Dench or Johnny Depp.
I do enjoy the HP movies, but I confess I’m not a big fan of special effects. I’m really looking forward to seeing Emma in “Ballet Shoes”. I remember she said on her web site that she was both excited and scared about stepping out of the HP world. I’m glad she chose “Ballet Shoes”. It’s a great book and Pauline should be a wonderful role for her. It’ll be nice to see Emma in a role where she’s not interacting with a blue screen!

My dear venni, the lame reason I was referring to is the tendency of Rupert fans (I would presume you are one though you say you are not) to rationalize Rupert’s loss in these awards as the old excuse of ” Rupert is not the lead so that’s why he’s not nominated or recognized”. I was just pointing out that Emma and Rupert are both secondary characters and yet being secondary was never a hindrance in Emma’s getting any recognition. It was really getting ridiculous to hear cause they maintain that the trio are equal, they’re all leads and yet when Rupert is overshadowed they dole out the old excuse of “he’s only secondary.” I wasn’t attacking Rupert at all. I was complaining against the inconsistent excuses of his fans who can’t help but compare him always to Dan. It’s already getting irritating. Everytime Dan and Emma get some awards or something and Rupert is ignored, you can always count on some Rupertfans to start whining which I used to find amusing but not anymore.
And yes, Hermione is equal to Ron in the books but they are not treated equally in the movies. I’m aware of this but again you only see the injustice when it is Rupert who has less screentme and not the other way around. Emma had less screentime than Rupert in movies 2 and 4 and yet I often hear on the supposed privilege given to Emma over Rupert.
Personally, I’m glad there are awards like the NMA that recognize blockbuster films that are made for fans instead of the critics. These films’ first consideration is not to win awards but to please fans and I am glad fans get the chance to vote on who they think should be given big awards like this. I find your attitude of “for films like HP” very condescending. Let’s just be happy for the HP cast on their win. Everybody has to start somewhere.

My dear day … I’m not sure where you get the idea that I’m a fan of Rupert’s, or where did you read in my comments me saying that he doesn’t get enough recognation… and I’m not sure what the fuss is about really.
It’s simple logic that the way the films (the films themselves + the promo of the them.. etc) concentrate more on Emma, and make her role seem more important, and make her gender and sexuality more important than the books do, so, naturally espeicaly that Emma isn’t exactly a bad looking girl, Emma would get all the recognation, she has basically no compitation, she’s the first girl, and that gives her a specefic place. That’s how commercial films work, you’ve got the first boy, and the first girl, and then the rest. It doesn’t matter if the first girl’s role is actually supposed to be equal to or even less than another supporting male actor in the film, it only matters her status as a “First Girl”.
I’m not sure what you’re arguing, and why you’re arguing it with me. I’m a guy, and stright, and 30, and mainly a books fan, and while I wouldn’t call the HP films exactly trashy, but they’re no piece of art either. And so the okayish performance that the kids give (including Rupert’s) would fit for such films, but they wouldn’t (with their HP performance) fit for real great artistic films.
I don’t care what sort of recognation each kid get, I wish them all good luck, as a normal human being wishing another normal human being nothing bad, and that’s it really for me. You’re the one who started that recognation thing with me for some reason, and I’m only giving you the logical reason, which for some odd reason you can’t work out for yourself!

Ths arguing is making my head ache. Please folks, I just saw some clips of the NMA and the look on Dan’s face when he won was classic. He was so shocked. He really didn’t expect to win. He hugged Emma and Rupert and must have said something to Rupert too. They’re all great friends so I don’t see why we have to quarrel over which cast is shown favoritism or one is just of second importance. Maybe Dan and Emma are aware that Rupert’s getting overshadowed cause they are very friendly and considerate to him. Emma hugged Rupes when she won as if consoling him that he’s left out again in the trio. Very touching really…

OMG they look great but Bonnie is Taller then Dan!!!! how is that gonna work out for HBP…i dont like it when a girl is taller then a boy….also Rupert is Short….ron is supposed to be the tallest…like real tall!!!

No more arguments with Venie. Can’t make out his/her convoluted reasoning.
Anyay, saw some of the NMA clips too and yup, very touching. They’re just kids who seem to be overwhelmed by all this recognition considering that they’re very young in the business. Just heard that Dan and Emma made the GUinness book too. Hope they still remain friendly and considerate to their costars and to their fans in the midst of all these accolades they’re receiving – deserved or not.

Uhm, venni: just a reminder that Emma is not female lead. She is just a secondary character on the same status as Rupert and yet she’s getting all these recognition while Rupert does not. That lame excuse of “Rupert as only supporting that’s why he didn’t win” excuse is so lame now. He didn’t win simply because not many people think he’s a good actor, period. It’s not automatic that just because you belong to the HP world, the general public will also love you. They only know about the trio. Katie Leung only got a lot of publicity before she gets to snog DanRad which titillated the media.I don’t think the general public cares about Bonnie and Matthew although there is some buzz about Evanna.
