While casting news is scarce regarding the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, there many rumors swirling online about a new director of photography for the sixth Harry Potter film. Reports now claim that noted cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel will photograph ‘Half-Blood Prince,” which is set to begin filming in the next weeks. Bruno Delbonnel has twice been nominated for the Oscar award in Achievement in Cinematography for his work on “A Very Long Engagement,” and “Amelie,” with his most recent work seen in the upcoming distinctive looking film “Across the Universe.” If this rumor proves true, Mr. Delbonnel would be replacing acclaimed cinematographer Slawomir Idziak, who served as DOP on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. As always, please consider this still a rumor until Warner Brothers releases official cast and crew announcements for HBP.

Oooh cool! How exciting!!!

Oh God. His work is GORGEOUS!!!

Well, I had no problem Slawomir Idziak’s work so this isn’t of too much interest to me. But I really hope they get a new film editor. I understand that the current one is an old friend of Yates’ but the editing was horribly choppy to the point of being destracting in OOTP. It really took away from my enjoyment of the film and I’ve heard others say the same.

Uh, yes please! Those movies are gorgeous, I could see it happening for HBP.

amelie and a very long engagement are extremely beautiful. it would nice if he could be working with jeunet on this, but i suppose yates will have to do

Avatar Image says:

Amelie is one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen, this would be great.

Avatar Image says:

Good! I hope this rumor ends up being true, because personally I didn’t in the least like the cinematography in OOTP.

Avatar Image says:

He did Amelie? Yes he’s in!

Avatar Image says:

I thought the editing was the best in OOTP! Sorry ‘Amy S’. It’s actually what I thought made OOTP one of the best HP films to date! xxx

Avatar Image says:

I’ve never seen either of the films, but two oscar nominations have got to be worth something. personally, I thought the cinematography in ootp was the best of any of the hp films, and one of the reasons the movie was so fantastic.

Avatar Image says:

Well, this guy has some excellent credentials, so I’m excited. I would really like to see PoA’s cinematographer, Michael Seresin, come back for another if possible, though. Whatever you thought of the film itself, you have to agree that it was visually stunning…

On the IMDB website, it states this:

Cinematography by Bruno Delbonnel (director of photography)

so maybe that is somewhat of a confirm?

Avatar Image says:

oh man, anyone that’s worked with julie taymor is fine by me…

though i hope this doesn’t mean another complete re-working of the world. the movies have started to be too individual. not that i don’t like them to get better, but i think the crew needs to remember that it is part of a series.

Avatar Image says:

very cool!

Avatar Image says:

He’s a good director but I hope he will do another job the ones he did on the Pierre Geunet because the photography on these movies is too much yellow.

Hope that David Yates will be able to adapt his qualities.

As far for the editing I think that OOTP’s editing was so much better than GOF.

Avatar Image says:

I hope they replace the editor too. ootp and gof were both choppy.

Avatar Image says:

Great! not to be mean or anything but in all 5 movies… OOTP was the only one i HATED… i really really hope Bruno’s the DOP because Slawomir Idziak was pretty lame…

i dont know if this could be a confirmation ?

Avatar Image says:

Idziak’s vision was truly inspiring, but he already said in an interview he’s NOT coming back for HBP. The interview was from February and he sound quite certain.

Avatar Image says:

Darius Khondji should do this. Since HBP is the darkest of all the seven, he should be taking up this. Se7en, shot by him remains his best work.

Avatar Image says:

“A Very Long Engagement” is gorgeously shot and photographed, but that certain sepia tone and overall style would be inappropriate for HBP. I’m hoping, if Delbonnel is chosen, that HBP will look a little glossy like John Seale’s work on PS/SS but maintain the darker qualities Roger Pratt and Slawomir Idziak imbued for GOF and OOTP. Or if Delbonnel isn’t chosen, then Dariuz Wolski (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Crow) would be a great alternative.

Avatar Image says:

I’m a massive film fan and I LOVE “Amelie,” and I can’t wait to see “Across the Universe.” This is really cool news.

Avatar Image says:

ania, can you remember which interview that was ? Where did you read it ?

Avatar Image says:

Ok. If it’s true it will be great… yeah because A Very Long Engagement, has a really good Photography I just love it
