We have more tonight regarding that new issue of Movie Magic magazinewe told you about a few days ago, which contains a large preview on the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie.” Thanks to Orchid, who let us know she now has all the scans up at her Harry/Ginny website. Of interest is a new interview with actor Tom Felton (scans also here, here and here in our galleries) who speaks a bit more on his character of Draco Malfoy in the sixth Harry Potter film. Tom says that there “are reasons that Draco is the way he is…He’s seen so many things and been taught so many wrong ideas from his father, Lucius, and of course he worships his father. He wants to be like him, to emulate him in every way. But his father has been involved in Voldemort’s dark circle for many years, so it’s not unusual that Draco would want to follow that path too. Everything is to please his father.” The article also contains a bit from Potter film producer David Heyman, who praises the actor’s performance in the upcoming movie, as he says “Tom’s nuances in the new film are terrific. It feels like a deeper richer character than we’ve seen to date.”

On a related note, and perhaps of greater interest to fans, is a possible movie spoiler contained in the magazine’s Encyclopedia of things relating to “Half-Blood Prince.” While it is possible this is a typo or mistake, the article describes the dreadful character of Fenrir Greyback and what is a possible plot twist in the movie. If you do not wish to read more, please stop here, otherwise scroll down for more.

The article (scan here) describes the Werewolf in the movie, and then says that in his attempt to create “an army of werewolves,” “Fenrir attacks Harry, but Harry or (someone unseen) petrifies him in time. But Ron’s Dad is not so lucky-Fenrir mauls his face and nearly kills him.” As readers will recall, we learned that the character of Fleur was not going to be in HBP, nor have we learned of the casting for Bill Weasley, so perhaps they have given Arthur that terrible fate for this film, however as we do not know if this is indeed the case, please keep this in the rumor category until we can update with more.

Thanks much to Orchid and Janet!

oohh….ok… this should be interesting…

Avatar Image says:

Huh… well if it’s Arthur then.. that sucks. Wrong character and a movie too early.

Avatar Image says:

Wow! I can’t wait to see Tom’s performance now! The stuff about Arthur Weasley interesting too.

Avatar Image says:

I can’t wait! It’s sad….Arthur gets mauled TWICE in the movies, which is actually also interesting. Bill was only a cameo in PoA, and I have no idea who they are casting for DH as Bill (if they don’t cut the wedding, which would suck.) Don’t forget, the movies are NOT supposed to be carbon copies of the books, but interpretations of them. INTERPRETATIONS.

Avatar Image says:

Whoa…that’s crazy. I am quite disapointed that Bill and Fleur are not in the movie. Their presence made the book quite humorous. And now we will not see Ginny making fun of them. Do you think that the wedding will be in the seventh movie? I do love that chapter, but if they don’t bring in the characters this movie to annouce the engagement it might not be in it seventh movie. What a shame; it’s so funny when Harry gets jelous of Krum, and the yellow dress robes the Lovegood’s are wearing.

Avatar Image says:

Hmm… I enjoyed the bit about Tom Felton, I have always felt that he does a great job as Draco, very canon performances even though he is underused, out of necessity for time constraints, in the films, so it will be nice to see more of him in HBP.

I guess if they really want to have Fenrir maul someone when he is not transformed and Bill is not going to be in the movies it isn’t too horrible to switch it to Arthur (poor man!), but I am never a huge fan of them changing things like that. If Bill is not there, why not just drop that part of it? Fenrir could attack people without actually biting them. But whatever, I guess I don’t really care about that (and I am HAPPY to have any news about HBP at the moment!) but if Arthur is mauled as a result of saving Harry, then Harry is going to have even MORE guilt and the poor guy has been through enough. :(

Avatar Image says:

wat. arthur again. come on. he got hurt last time. wow. army of werewolves.can’t wait!

Avatar Image says:

Jess, there is a rumor that they will still do the wedding, only with Tonks and Lupin instead. It’s just a rumor, but I am holding on to it, I really want the wedding in there, too!

Avatar Image says:

Poor Arthur, taking the brunt of everything.

Avatar Image says:

Poor Mr. Weasley. It really doesn’t make sense that they would change this part. You’d think they would just leave it out.

I’m pretty sure that they have no plans to cast Bill for DH. The characters of Bill and Fleur will most likely be merged with Tonks and Lupin.

Avatar Image says:

I really hope this is a lie… Why are they twisting the books so much? To save money because they don’t want to bring Fleur back or cast Bill? They’d better be in there, I’ll through a fit. :(

Avatar Image says:

You are correct DeathlyH . Interpretations of an adaptation of the book. As Phillipa Boyens said of writing the screenplay for LOTR ( and is no doubt holding true to her statement as she adapts The Hobbit ) ..” the truth is, it’s an organic thing, you can’t OWN these books, each person has a different vision and this is just one fans interpretation of the story” . This is horribly paraphrased but you get the idea.

I have no doubt that Kloves, Heyman and the rest are substituting Tonks and Lupin for the Bill/Fleur romance and wedding. Subsequently, they are putting in Mr. Weasley ( if it’s indeed true ) for the Fenrir attack. The message of love will be the same, whether it is Fleur or Tonks or Mrs. Weasley.

I’m just quite happy to hear that Tom Felton is digging deep into Draco and his psyche. Should be a riveting performance we get from him.

Avatar Image says:

Well if this is true about Arthur then it would give much more weight to the Tonks/Lupin wedding in DH.

Avatar Image says:

What the hell. Why are the freakin’ movie makers out to ruin the movies? Seriously, I hope some time in the furure they make a re-make of the last three (actually four because of DH) HP movies. Look what David Yates has done alerady? I already know the rest are screwed up. I’m writing this before I’ve even read the article. That’s how unsurpising it is that David Yates has once again messed it up. reads So why dont they just rip up the books and make their own version by the way their going? How can JKR stand this? Their totally messing up her books! So Finir tries to attack harry, but ends up mauling Mr.Weasley. I cant even say anymore on this topic. It is way to upsetting. Anyways, good on Tom Felton though. I’v been eagerl awaiting his performence in this!

Avatar Image says:

Like everyone, I’m never thrilled when the filmmakers mess with canon, but I find this Arthur Weasley thing less disturbing than leaving out the whole back story of the Marauders’ Map in PoA.

Avatar Image says:

Oh another blow to the Weasley family! It will make Ron’s comments to Harry in DH that much more meaningful, just before he storms away from the tent, after overhearing the Goblins & Dean, Dirk & Ted Tonks, when he says to Harry “Ofcourse your not fussed what it meant!” If we are never to meet Bill in the films, it had to be a Weasley who suffered this fate! I am sure this is not going to stay in the rumour catagory for long!

I am left wondering now, is this to happen at the raid on the Burrow that we think is an added scene, or will it stay true to the books? i am betting it has been added to the new scene when the death eaters raid the Burrow.

Avatar Image says:

that makes me madd!! they cant just change the story line so much!

Avatar Image says:

they going to cut the shell cottage scenes for DH too? good to hear some news, good news on the TF front!!

as for the werewolf bit, i must say it will be a bit strange having Mr.Weasley beeing bitten not really sure what to think of this at the moment, i honestly didnt think that scene would be in the film, but i guess we will all have to wait and see if it all works on screen,

i kinda agree with BIlly “Well if this is true about Arthur then it would give much more weight to the Tonks/Lupin wedding in DH.” i think it would

Avatar Image says:

I will wait to pass judgment until I see how they do it. I’m more okay with the idea of Mr. Weasley being the one mauled than with the wedding in DH being Remus/Tonks; they got married secretly because they wanted to avoid a big fuss. Heck, her parents were even against it! Then again, it’s all rumor. Someone mentioned Lord of the Rings. I have always liked what the filmmakers did to that even though they changed plot elements because they retained the spirit of the books. I think that we need to step back from the desire to see these books portrayed in every exact detail and enjoy what the filmmakers do.

Avatar Image says:

Unfortunatly they can, Julie! I don’t like it, but there isn’t much we can do if the film has already been shot. They are probably doing it to make the movie make more sense to people who see the movies, but don’t read the books.

Avatar Image says:

I honestly think that’s a mistake on the magazine’s part. I’m sure they meant Bill and just got him confused with Arthur. Movie Magazine does not normally contain new scoops, they just relay information already out there or post book info.

Avatar Image says:

Ef this! I have had enough! Who wants to call a boycott! lol just kidding, but really now this is getting to be outrageous!

Avatar Image says:

Oh and PS I have boughten those magazines in the past and they are F-U-L-L of errors so I wont be too concerned…but you never know…

Avatar Image says:

Wow. Just keep ruining the story, WB. Don’t even think about using the books as a guideline. Great work. Hey, maybe next film you can make Harry into a girl. It could be called “Harriet Potter and the Deathly Hallows”. What an interesting plot twist that would be.

Avatar Image says:

WHAT R THEY THINKING!!!!!!!!! Come on, last time I checked these were based on the books not what they think should be in the books! Why can’t thay just have Greyback attack some extra to show he was dangerous and all that?!? Why ARTHUR? Give the guy a break!

Avatar Image says:

I wish they would just cut the the chase and add in Bill and Fleur! Then they wouldn’t had to work around them in silly ways like that!

If the wedding turns out to be someone else’s, like Lupin and Tonks, I think that would extremely disappointing.

Avatar Image says:

I’m glad to hear Felton is doing such a great job as Draco in HBP. Everything leading up to the end of the book is hinted at by small things Draco does, and it’s great that Felton really grasped that.

Avatar Image says:

I think that we as fans of the books and the movies often think of HP as one complete story..instead of looking at them seperately as books and movies. Many of us love the character of Bill (I know I do!) but we love him in the books. If you take it from the POV of a movie goer rather than a HP fan, you can see why theyve done this and also how they can still make up for this with something else in DH. I’d love if they had remus and tonks wedding (even though I ship RL/SB) in place of the bill fleur wedding…or even gave more time to Harrys party and the minister’s visit. They’ll have to do something anyway..That is where we get lots of information which helps set up the plot. Sucks that Arthur has to get mauled again though…

Please excuse the rant. I’ve had way too much tea tonight

Avatar Image says:

I really appreciate the bit about Tome Felton. I’ve always felt he was a great actor who hardly had any time to prove it on screen. I’m looking forward to his performance in the movie to see if my instincts are correct.

Avatar Image says:

God, you guys. It’s a movie. You should know by now that they change stuff around to fit casting and all so stop whining about every little change. This is NOTHING new.

I’m actually rather excited to see how Tom is going to play Draco in this film but they really need to bump up publicity for this thing. I remember by this amount of time before the movie was out there was already a good amount of hype.

Avatar Image says:

You know, Lord of the Rings proved that a movie could be done right and well, and still be true to the books, and still be expensive, and STILL make money.

Warner Brothers has a near-perfect cast and then completely screws up every film, getting worse every time. I can’t even watch the opening 15 minutes of the OOTP film anymore, since it’s so awfully done. I mean, really, talk about anticlimactic when Mrs. Figg shows up. And ooh, let’s fly past all the touristy bits in London on broomsticks. Wizarding secrecy?? Bah! No one’ll notice…

Warner Brothers is milking this as a cash cow, but won’t even feed the cow properly (the anemic memorabilia available in the U.S. vs. Japan is another indicator).

Since I’m a screenwriter and live in hollywood, I understand that the whole book won’t make the cut. I can sort of understand cutting out Bill and Fleur. But why bother mauling Arthur then? Want to save money? The make the remaining scenes count! Some of the bits in the last film looked like everyone was different groups of freshly-introduced neighbors, not parents and longterm pals. Most other films wouldn’t get away with such shoddy character development and interactions on tape. They’d flop in the theaters or go straight to video.

I’ve brought people new to Potter to the films, and they’ve never read the books after. The movies were confusing to them. They thought the books would be, too. After seeing PoA, a friend was so confused, I had to explain the entire book plot and backstory. The response? “Wow, that would have been a really good movie if they’d gotten that across!”

I love the books, I love the idea, and I love Jo, but I’m getting really sick of WB. I used to see the films on opening night, but they may not even get me in the theater for the next films. If I’m going to spend $12/person plus snacks, then it better be worth my while.

Lord of the Rings as filmed improved my Tolkein experience. The Potter movies have started to diminish my joy in the series, so they will likely be removed from my entertainment budget. I don’t want to be pessimistic, but the past 3 of 5 haven’t been so great, so that doesn’t bode well for the last 2 (now 3). I don’t see the WB correcting their mistakes anytime soon.

Avatar Image says:

I can understand outrage if this werewolf thing was a huge plot point. But it’s not, so I think people should calm down about it. Sure, some things about the movies are really disappointing but it’s ridiculous if people haven’t yet seen the books and movies as different mediums by now.

Avatar Image says:

Dear WB,

Stop destroying canon.

No love,

Me

Avatar Image says:

we don’t want the movies just as good as the books b.c that nevers happens in any book that becomes a movie.. but their suckin it upp.. so BOOOOOOO!!!! it i think the movies from Ootp on up will suck though.. oh well thats why i never go to the theater to see them… plus… I LOVE ALL YOU GUYS THAT POST COMMENTS!!

Avatar Image says:

Well I am excited to see what to do, I have taken to watching the movies twice in the theater, one time so I can gripe about every little thing they did or didn’t do, and a second time so I can actually enjoy the movie.

Really the only thing that still bothers me is PoA with all the waisted time doing artsy things when there could have been plot, and the ending of GoF whatever happened to Barty Crouch and Snape you are going to go do something and oh everyone who is not the Trio and Dumbledore Sirius really isn’t guilty so in movie 5 when you are staying at his house it will be okay…sorry got off topic didn’t I?

So I am sure I will gripe about the movie, but I will enjoy it for the Hollywood fanfic that it is. :)

Avatar Image says:

Barty Crouch JR…sorry had to correct my self.

Avatar Image says:

If they’re leaving in the plot device, how flipping hard is it to hire two actors to keep with the book? It’s not like the franchise is hurting for an income… I hate it when they morph things completely away from the book. Maybe Arthur Weasley is the Chosen One…he’s getting attacked in every movie now :)

Avatar Image says:

I am really quite worried about this movie now :-S

Avatar Image says:

um, that would just be kinda retarded and unecessary to have fenrir maul arthur since that kinda would be changing the plot. theres no point in changing that…have him maul sum insignificant character but that then changes arthur’s character and fate from the bookss…thats just stupid to do that…its not even necessary to do it…i dont think theres any point to hurting arthur’s character and not having bill in the books – it’ll just worsen the effects of wat happens to the weasley family in the 7th bk…

Avatar Image says:

Blah…rereads post…”Well I am excited to see what THEY do” not “to do” ... I am just going to stop rereading my post if there are more typos or whatever maybe I can give yall more credit that you’ll understand what I mean…

But yes, my friends that don’t read Potter just ask okay now whats going on because they have no clue and me and all the Potterheads have to fill in all the blanks the movies left out. I am still trying to convince my other friends to read, they watch the movies, they love Tolkein and Lloyd Alexander, I think they would love HP.

Avatar Image says:

I feel like I have been ranting about one thing or another for several days, and I have already posted about this topic, but I had to just say to Jenna: I AGREE about the first 15 minutes of OoTP, they are painful.

As far as adapting things for film, what do people almost always end up saying? “Oh, the book was so much better.” That is true here, in spades. (The exception, for me anyway, is with John Grisham’s books, the movies are always better, but that is just my opinion.)

What kills me is if they would stick just a LITTLE closer to the books, not word for word (although that would be great, of course, but I am trying to be realistic) but just a little bit closer, the movies would improve exponentially.

My biggest problem with Yates specifically is this preset maximum he is in love with for the length of films, he has stated in interviews that he doesn’t think ANY movie should be over about 2 hours long. I don’t think going into an HP film with that attitude is conducive to presenting the best film possible, and it showed itself in the horrible jumpiness of OoTP. He has a TV background, not film, and I think that is a problem for him as a director.

He did a great job, for the most part, with the performances, not so much with the character development. What was with the kids just casually strolling up to Harry as he almost dies at the Ministry?? Like he was some mildly interesting specimen on the floor. Things like that drove me CRAZY. I hope that Yates has learned a bit more about the interrelationships and will be able to portray them properly in HBP. I do think HBP is a lot easier to cut and still get a great movie out of, if they do it right, so I am remaining cautiously optimistic. For now.

Avatar Image says:

Seriously, the books and the films are two different mediums. Yeah, it’s sucks if they’re using Arthur as a scapegoat… but it’s also a character that already has backstory in the films so we’re attached to him. Introducing Bill and bringing back Fleur (who was practically mute in GoF) and expecting the general audience to feel for them in stretching it in a film series that has so many different characters and subplots.

Avatar Image says:

re: Interpretations of an adaptation of the book. This is horribly paraphrased but you get the idea.

um,...interpretation is different from making up things that never actually happened. I don’t consider dropping Bill and Fleur from the movie altogether as an interpretation so much as a simple ‘change made for convenience purposes’. I understand that Bill is not a big part of the movie, but dropping his role and having other characters take up the things he would otherwise be doing (ie. getting married at the weasley house, or getting his face bitten off) impacts the audience’s perception of the chararcters as they are portrayed in the movie. Plus the fact that to the rest of the hundreds of thousands of book readers who then see the movie, it makes the movies even more disappointing..not to mention intolerable!

on a happier note, I’m happy Tom is gonna get more screen time this time around. Frankly, the movies are just SO shallow in character development and plot depth that if they did not have a book from which they originated they would be nothing more than just another mediocre movie. The only reason why the movies have had so much success is because half the people watching them have already done their homeworks and so don’t find the movies too confusing.

Avatar Image says:

LOL! Chelsea..

If they cut out Bill and Fleur where will Ron go when he runs away? surely not to Lupin and Tonks’? If they take out Shell Cottage they will have to make up a really good place to bury Dobby and do him justice! But now that i think about it- i feel like WB might to do a Voldie and take him out of the last movie all together.

But if maybe this is still just a rumor…im hoping…

Avatar Image says:

Well…...that bites.

Avatar Image says:

I’m confused. How can they not have Bill and Fleur in DH? You can’t have Ron go home when he storms off. The whole point of the conversation when he comes back is that he didn’t go to the burrow. This is crazy. I understand the people who say that it’s not supposed to be just like the book, but can you honestly say that you want them to totally distort it like this? Without Bill being savaged in HBP, the conversation in the hospital wing either won’t work right or won’t even be there, so when will Harry be able to tell everybody what happened? This is crazy. This is very upsetting. By the way, I haven’t read anything about the Ginny and Harry kiss. Did I miss it, or did they take that out too? If they take that out, I’ll cry. That is sooooo important.

Avatar Image says:

um….....ok. Isnt that supposed to happen in DH? I am positive of that. but whatever. not my movie.

Avatar Image says:

Emily, I’m pretty sure the Harry/Ginny romance is still in. In the recent USA TODAY article and pics they said they’ve even put in at least one ‘almost’ moment.

Avatar Image says:

It’s one of the pitfalls of having started making the films as the books were being released. Not everyone is going to included, and that’s going to upset the book fans. They have to go with whom the general audience knows and cares about.

@Emily: I’m pretty sure Harry and Ginny kiss. David Yates, Dan, and Bonnie said they do. In fact, Dan said they filmed a kiss the third day of filming.

Avatar Image says:

UUUGGGGHHH!!!! that is soo retarded i know they can’t make it that long n stuff but still!!!!! im sure me and ALOT of other harry potter fans would LOVE it if, for once, they would stick to the REAL plot!!!MAKES ME SOO MAD!!

Avatar Image says:

NO! That completely screws up the films! Uggh, that’s something too big to change.

Avatar Image says:

I heard a rumor that they are going to have Arthur Weasley be killed instead of Dobby in DH, except it will be at the Burrow instead of Shell Cottage.

OK I’m kidding, but at this point just about nothing would surprise me.

Avatar Image says:

YAY! I feel better. Btw, Bill getting savaged happens in HBP. I have it on CD so I can listen to it in bed. Last CD in the set has the hospital wing part. Remember? Nobody dies, but Flitwick, Neville and Bill get injured. That’s Half Blood Prince. Thanks for the info everybody. I’m starting to think I should pay more attention to news.

Avatar Image says:

I so DO hope it is true, that would be a good angle for the film ,on the story,as long as they do not let him die. Another father figure ..as good as Mr.Weasley is..should not be taken from Harry’s life. The movie mass audiance that have not read the books will enjoy the extra storyline…since Bill and Fluer are not in it .And those of us who have will still get a even better film because of this. I wonder ””IF” it is Snape who freezes him,,,,if Dombledore is gone.

Avatar Image says:

Actually, Bill getting mauled wasn’t a minor part of the story, at least not to me. It was yet another scare for the Weasley family (and psyched everyone up for an eventual death of a family member), finally brought Fleur and Molly together, and showed that love is a commitment, and that families, friendships, and couples are tested and challenged by Voldemort’s regime. It also led up to the confession of Tonks and Lupin’s relationship. However, since the filmmakers have decided that character back story is unimportant, and removed Fleur and Bill, and the Tonks/Lupin relationship from the film, they should leave out the Fenrir mauling altogether, instead of writing in Arthur as an alternative victim (thus overemphasizing his luck against death), just so they can salvage the “exciting” aspect of a werewolf attack. Sometimes in recipes, it’s better to just omit an ingredient rather than try to replace it with something else. The same goes for stories. I am not saying that the films have to be 100% identical to the books, but I am sick of the filmmakers making their own alterations and plot changes to concentrate the action and suspense in the films in order to appease viewers with short attention spans and generate more profits. Or sometimes it has nothing to do with money, it seems, but perhaps the sheer joy of control; like it being written and filmed that Sirius was killed by the Avada Kedavra curse instead of falling into the veil due to the impact of a non-lethal spell. There was no point in that, whatsoever. And yes, they are JUST movies. WB has made sure of that.

Avatar Image says:

Ooh! I like it, I like it…. =D

Avatar Image says:

yall needa calm down with this harry potter bull ish. you guys trip too much on it. from what i know books are different from the movies bitches. and eragon is way better than harry potter any day. yall should be reading charlie bone…do something useful in your life…

Avatar Image says:

deeyum this fool is right, charlie bone is sick. hah

Avatar Image says:

Let’s all take a moment to remember that this is still in the rumor category and nothing is confirmed until the films come out.

Of course the books are going to be more enjoyable then the films. JKR can put loads more in. Books can be thousands of pages long where as a movie that is 6 hours long wouldn’t be as interesting (and no one would be able to sit all the way through it without having to get up at least once).

Also we must all remember that WB isn’t doing anything in regards to the HP franchise without JK Rowling’s seal of approval. She reads every draft of the screen play. She wouldn’t let them do anything that would screw with her world.

Also? David Yates doesn’t write these films. Can we stop attacking him already? It’s been months of attacking David Yates. He’s directing. He’s done a good job or else WB and JK Rowling wouldn’t have asked him back. Let’s not judge until HBP comes out.

Avatar Image says:

All i have to say is Guys!!!! GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s a movie!!! yes you might like the movies and have read all the books but get over it! Trust me! I am one of the hugesyt HP fans!! Don’t worry about the movies yuntil they come out ok!!!!!!! OH YA!!! All you people leaving comments, go back to grade to and take a spelling lesson!

Avatar Image says:

haha if i made spelling mistakes please point them out if you are intelligent enough!

Avatar Image says:

For Merlin sake….. they have CHO in this movie again and they didn’t even bother to have someone play BiLL???? I mean I knew there was no news of anybody being cast for the role…. I love HBP book…. but the movie has been a real disappointment till now. Hardly any news or photos… and what I have read doesn’t sound too promising. I HAVE TO BE HONEST. I know there’s always been cuts and changes in the other movies but I’ve never been so disappointed in any of them.

Avatar Image says:

geez take your toothpick out of the volcano and take a reality check children!

Avatar Image says:

Surprisingly, if the rumor about the Bill/Fleur wedding being replaced by the Lupin/Tonks wedding is true, then I’m all for it! We see throughout the story that Lupin and Tonks’ relationship has a much bigger impact on Harry than Bill and Fleur’s does. I mean, look at the epilouge of DH: Teddy’s life is an exact parallel of Harry’s! This is something readers should understand, though not many do. The events that follow the Lupin’s will have a much bigger impact on us than we could have with Bill and Fleur, in whom we have hardly been introduced to, and have little hope of ever being able to connect with them.

Avatar Image says:

It makes sense for a film production to minimize the number of actors – even if we’d really rather them follow canon. (Although I still think James McAvoy would have made a great Bill Weasley). As far as the Arthur Weasley attack I would take that rumor with a grain of salt. Movie Magazine has great photos but they’ve had mistakes in the text content before so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Avatar Image says:

Only one thing came to my mind:

Arthur Weasley = Voldemort’s punching bag

Anyone else want Makani to do a sketch right now??

Avatar Image says:

i love immature children!!!!

Avatar Image says:

god, the most annoying this is when they change stuff in the movies and then people (like my family) forget what happened in the book. its like, why couldn’t they have just adapted the book? are you seriously telling me its too hard? cause its not, they might be long, but the actual content is not insurmountable. thats one of the reasons i was so excited about david yates directing 5, because he adapted ‘the way we live now’ into a beautiful, well paced miniseries, but ootp was choppy. why??? he’s so much better than this. why cant they just cut out all the stupid kid crap and non-canon crap and make every scene count. i wonder how many minutes of footage it would be if you did that? you can cut out the entire shrunken head character in PoA, naked/fur coat Sirius scene from OoTP, the ballroom dancing lesson from GoF, pretty much every scene from GoF…

whatever, i still like em for what they are, but what are they? fanfiction?

Avatar Image says:

I can’t wait to see Tom’s performance-looks terrific from the scans and the pics.

And with regard to the movies, they’ll never be able to do a perfect adaptation that’ll please all fans. The books are better than the movies any day.

Avatar Image says:

Poor Arthur Weasley, he gets chomped on two movies in a row?

I do wish Mr. Yates and Mr. Kloves (who I thought did well with the first mvoies) would talk with Evanna Lynch before changing the story line. And give her the deciding vote!

Avatar Image says:

Writing that Arthur gets attacked instead of Bill has nothing to do with saving time (because they could just as easily leave the attack out altogether). It has to do with them not wanting to leave a certain back story in the film, but still wanting to reap the excitement of a werewolf attack. Their brilliant solution? Arthur gets mauled, instead! They erase characters and a back story, yet gain an action scene, as always! Gee, maybe death-defying Arthur should fight Voldemort in the final battle in the last movie. After all, it’ll be a nice way they can save some time if Daniel is too busy performing on Broadway in “Equus”.

Avatar Image says:

wow, mr. weasley has really AWEFUL luck in these movies… always getting mauled and portrayed as an idiot. bummer.

Avatar Image says:

I think the biggest thing going against the HP now is the fact that they did cut a lot of weasley screentime in the first movies. At the time they started, only the first three books were released, with GoF on its way. And we all have to admit that it seems at that time, the weasleys were ‘just Ron’s family”, much like Neville “was just a forgetful classmate”. Unlike, LOTR or even Narnia, they don’t know what needs to stay or not seeing as JKR also didnt want to reveal any of the important events in the next books.

But with that, we all have to remember that she does approve all these drafts. Meaning that as much as we hate all the changes and cuts WB has made on these movies, JKR approved them. With OoTP, WB wanted to cut Kreacher but JKR said that if they do that, they would have a problem come the 7th movie. We all know she approves everything: Alfonso C. wanted to add additional “creatures” in PoA, but JKR stopped him from doing that. So as much as I hated the shruken heads in PoA, she did approve it, as well as the other things they’ve changed so far.

I like the way David Yates as directed the OoTP: he focused on Harry and all his issues, anything not directly experienced by Harry was cut. And that’s why the prefect storyline was cut; and that’s why Quidditch/”weasley is our king” was moved from OoTP to HBP. Quidditch was something Harry was so immersed in HBP, but not in OoTP.

As for the Bill-Fluer storyline, when you think about it, movie-wise, is it really wise to re-introduce them at this point? What purpose would they serve? Relationships and conflicts can be built and resolved in a regular one and half hour movie: they have almost 5 hours for Deathly Hallows to re-establish Bill & Fluer, should they decide to do so. If not, then Ron would need to go somewhere else when he leaves harry and hermoine. Any place would do, when you think about it, seeing as Ron only needs to establish that he didnt go back to the Burrow during his disapperance. As for Shell Cottage and Dobby’s death, Dobby could be buried somewhere else. Again, the where is not important, we only need to see how heartbreaking it would be for harry to bury a friend to died saving him.

NOOOO! Why there is no BILL!? I love Bill/Fleur!

Avatar Image says:

first a snake attack, now a werewolf? can’t arthur catch a break?

Avatar Image says:

Quite frankly, I’m fine with what they do as long as it stays true to the ‘feel’ of the books. It took me til my 2nd time watching OotP to realise that but I’ve accepted it now. There is no time to have hundreds of characters, however interesting, and all the extra subplots. The books can do that and you can revisit them anytime. The movies have chosen to focus on Harry so anything that isn’t necessary is cut or rearranged. And for me it works.

Changing who Greyback attacks isn't just about an extra 'action' sequence, if it's even true, it would be about showing for DH the kind of werewolf he is as opposed to Lupin and making us very worried when we see Hermione carted off by him in Malfoy Manor. Bill and Fleur are not necessary to the plot and at this late stage would be a hindrance to the huge cast we already have. So it makes sense to change who is attacked, and it needs to be a Weasley so that we can see what the cost to them is of fighting back. If they don't suffer this issue then it's not as clear what they are risking to oppose Voldemort.

There will always be reasons for any changes/additions made so I think we need to calm down and see what happens in the actual movie before we decide that this is a bad one. After i got over my whinge about OotP the first time i watched i really enjoyed it. It does capture the spirit of the book and I have faith that the remaining movies will too.

Avatar Image says:

Hmm… very interesting. I’m not to suprised that we won’t be seeing Bill and Fluer, nor to terribly upset (not that they didn’t add a lot to the books, I loved them in the books, but speaking from a movie standpoint). Lupin and Tonks are bigger characters and it will make Teddy’s storyline (if they keep it) much more meaningful.

However, I don’t like the idea of Arthur getting attacked again. As much as I loved how Yates did OotP, I felt like the snake attack was rather weak without the hospital scene and the bit where Harry and Sirius and the Weasleys are all waiting for news. That was huge in the book but was cut down for the movie, and with the amount of information (the “this is how we did it” from the deatheaters and the RAB locket) that will need to be given at the end of HBP, not to mention Dumbledor’s death, I can’t imagine them spending much time on Mr Weasley’s attack which will again water it down and make it rather pointless. I wish that they would cut it all together.

That being said, I loved OotP and am extremely excited for HBP. It will still be amazing, the absence of Bill and Fluer or the switched attack to Arthur would not ruin the movie for me.

Avatar Image says:

For Merlin sake….. they have CHO in this movie again and they didn’t even bother to have someone play BiLL???? I mean I knew there was no news of anybody being cast for the role…. I love HBP book…. but the movie has been a real disappointment till now. Hardly any news or photos… and what I have read doesn’t sound too promising. I HAVE TO BE HONEST. I know there’s always been cuts and changes in the other movies but I’ve never been so disappointed in any of them.

Avatar Image says:

This news doesn’t worry me. All I want for HBP is that it’s good, decent, justworthy to the series, and is 2 1/2 hours long and not a short film!

Avatar Image says:

uuuuggghhhh. i wish they had given bill a cameo in the 3rd or 4th movie, and gave fleur more screentime in GOF, so this wouldn’t be an issue at all. poor arthur. fenrir needs to attack SOMEONE, so the malfoy manor scene is more frightening, and the weasleys need to suffer more (unfortunately).. but poor arthur :(

Avatar Image says:

But this is wrong! Bill should have been there!

Avatar Image says:

Hmmm…interesting. I’m so glad that Tom is finally getting to stretch his acting legs in this movie. He’s definitely a great actor and he definitely deserves more screen time.

I think it would be cool if they made Arthur the one who gets attacked instead of Bill. I mean JKR was going to kill Arthur in book 5 anyways, but then again it would be a little too repetitive since Arthur just got attacked by a giant snake in movie 5. So I hope it was a typo, but if it wasn’t then I can live with it.

Avatar Image says:

Speaking of the past history of David Yates directing the films, I wonder how long the Half Blood Prince movie will be – an hour? Think of all the great stuff he can leave out for the sake of streamlining it! My opinion is if David Yates wasn’t crazy about the stories as written and thought so much was expendable, then why did he get involved with Potter films anyway!

One day someone will remake them the way they were supposed to be done.

Avatar Image says:

That’s cool. I’m really excited for the movie. Not excited for the changes, but no one ever is. I really wish they would have kept Bill and Fleur. I love this director, so either way, I trust it will be a great film.

Avatar Image says:

It surprises me that no one has mentioned the possible elimination of the character of Dobby; after all, we haven’t seen him in the movies for quite a while…

With everything else being cut, mutilated or mangled why wouldn’t they just leave out Dobby’s death as well? Or maybe Hedwig’s? Why not just leave out Voldemort’s demise?

These movies are so *&%@#$! un-canon that they may as well just film the movie they want to make and leave Harry Potter out of it completely!!!!!!!

(Apologies for my venting, but this has been annoying me for quite some time now.)

Maybe, someday, someone will remake all the movies and stick to canon…

(Yeah, and Flitwick will become an Olympic basketball gold medalist while Snape teaches sensitivity classes for Deatheaters and McGonnagall pole dances at The Leaky Cauldron.)

It is sad that they mess everything up. I guess that is the price when you sign a movie contract from the plot of a book. But it annoys me that with the first two movies Chris Columbus suck with Harry’s world very closely, following the book very carefully. Now that everyone has the visual image of his surroundings the focus on other things not in the book. Some are good, the the highlighted changes of seasons in POA featuring the Whoomping Willow; but others they stray to far from the book.

ALSO: I just got back from Mama Mia! It is really good. Funny, light and entertaining. And Julie Walters can sing! I never would have guessed it of her! A very good movie. Totally worth $11.50 (Australian dollars)

Avatar Image says:

Oh dear, it seems I’ll have the cinema all to myself for HBP – as if! And a message to all Yates haters : if the attack on Arthur is true its a script change (guess who). Finally, OotP was great, including the first fifteen minutes!! Rant over.

Avatar Image says:

The HP movies don’t bring anything new or refreshing to the series. They’re just a badly mangled uncanon version of a book series. I feel the HP movies have dumbed-down the books and Yates proved that to me when he explained why they cut the Lily-backstory and Snape’s Worst Memory. Everyone I knew who read the books wanted to see that storyline unfold in the OOTP movie. That stuff got cut down to a few glimpses of Lily/James/Snape. Yates said he didn’t think it would translate clearly to suddenly introduce Lily and that backstory to the audience. what do you mean? The majority of the people who watch the HP films are kids who eat up these books like crazy. I don’t understand why they think we’re too slow to fully grasp such subplots?

The entire Marauders’s backstory was gutted to the rubbish we saw PoA. Ugh. How anti-climatic was that? The whole story surrounding the events that impact Harry’s life ALL go back to the Marauders’s era and Snape.

I don’t blame Warner Bros. because they’re clearly capable of producing QUALITY films, “Batman: The Dark Knight” being a perfect example where VERY talented writers put together such a compelling script with some amazing actors. HP have great actors working with sub-par material. In comparison, Kloves is such a bloody amateur.

“How does keeping the wedding scene help/relate to Harry? Screw everyone else.”] <<<< This is the kind of stupidness they will consider when making the DH script and cutting “unnecessary” things out.

They gutted OOTP and left things only directly connected to Harry and basically saying F.off to everyone else. I hated the way Yates explained that when talked about cutting Quidditch and other stuff. And what did that result in? The shortest Harry Potter film to date. Bullocks.

Avatar Image says:

Well, I’m not going to prejudge this as terrible. From what I’ve seen and heard it will be at the very least fine … and probably much more than that. The first 2 movies had the luxury of including everything because the books were so short … all the later ones have had to choose what to include and what to leave out and made better movies because of it. I love OotP and I trust that the next 3 will keep what is important about HP.

Avatar Image says:

“I have already posted about this topic, but I had to just say to Jenna: I AGREE about the first 15 minutes of OoTP, they are painful.” (posted by Lemonfaerie on page 3)

I’ll third that. Every time I rewatch OotP I cringe at the Dementor/Mrs Figg/walking back to the house scene, such a disappointment because I love the whole first part of the book with the Dursley kitchen scene included (not to mention the Harry rant at Hermione and Ron in GP, a second problem I had with the film).

Though I must add that otherwise it is probably my second favourite of the films so far.

From this, it does looks to me that they’re going to leave out the whole Bill and Fleur story for DH too, which only bothers me from the point of view of how they are going to get those important characters together who are at the wedding (because they are none of them likely to be invited to a Tonks/Lupin wedding). And most especially because it makes me worry about Dobby… that Shell Cottage scene for me is one of the most emotional scenes of DH books so I hope they don’t leave that out! And it can’t be Kreacher who takes his place because Kreacher…, well, in my head he’s still alive (and in love with another elf) so I will be annoyed if they change that for the films!

TBH I’m not bothered about the attack being on Arthur.

Avatar Image says:

im down with it as long as Arthur doesnt die. ..but i doubt the attack will make a lasting impression—why spend an extra hour of make-up everyday for something totally unnecessary?

Avatar Image says:

Well it’s understandable since they’d have to build Bill’s character from scratch and Arthur is already an established character who we are emotionally connected to.

It would’ve been kinda interesting to see Lupin getting attacked, though.

Avatar Image says:

Lupin does get attacked. You just have to wait for the last movie.

Avatar Image says:

I wish they’d just left that part out. It’s completely unnecessary if it’s not happening to Bill. But hey ho, it might turn out really well in the movie…

Avatar Image says:

I always knew they would ruin this movie, just like they ruined from GoF onwards.

Avatar Image says:

I don’t get why can’t they just leave that part out, if they aren’t going to have Bill and Fluer?!! I mean to the non-reader they are going to believe it’s Arthur who gets bitten by Fenrir, when it actually isn’t.

Avatar Image says:

The Harry Potter movies started out good. People always knocked Columbus for not being radical enough, but he knew what he was doing If it isn’t broken don’t fix it. The problem started from the third movie when they decided to allow the directors to get arty and reimagine stuff to make their mark on the movie.

Avatar Image says:

NO! NO! NO!

Avatar Image says:

Hmmm… Would Arthur’s attack be part of the “added scene at the Burrow” that JKR approved? IIRC there was talk of Bellatrix and Fenrir being involved.

Avatar Image says:

I was under the impression they had cut Bill and Fleur to protect the ickle kiddies from seeing one of the heroes horribly disfigured. What’s their excuse now? Why is Bill being snubbed from the movies? Are they afraid he will steal Harry’s thunder? Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!

Avatar Image says:

Hi, all! Can’t possibly read ALL the comments, here [work, y’know], but I did want to say one thing: THANK YOU, ECONOMRS! Just what I’ve been thinking. The real most important thing, in any of these films, is retaining the SPIRIT of the books! It is not possible to satisfy each and every persons “vision” of what should be or not be. We do need to “step back from the desire to see these books portrayed in every exact detail and enjoy what the filmakers do!” Also, let me add. For the record, Mr Yates is an excellent Director, and I still maintain that this will be an excellent film. :>

Avatar Image says:

Seriously I come to Leaky and see all these complaints that there is no news and then when you get something you whinge hardcore about it.

You are like a pack of rabid little ferals. In a movie you have 2-2.5 hours to establish a character and tell their story. With harry we are lucky – he’s the central character. We also know lots abut Ron and hermione the rest of teh characters get very little screen time and it is not viable to give them a lot. HP is FULL of characters and a movie simply CANNOT deliver them. it CAN’T it’s not the right medium. We need to know who they are, how they relate to Harry and what their point is.

frankly Bill and Fleur have no point to Harry. Tonks and Lupin do. It is a good filmic decision to leave out Bill and Fleur. It’s another character to get to know and there isn’t enough time for that!

Book … movie two Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery different animals. I am tired of coming here to get movie news and then trying to locate the intelligent discussion about it. In 6 pages there’s like 3 people who’ve made mature thoughtful comment. Why does a werewolf attack lose impact if it;s Arthur? Why does it make it less of a blow for the Weasley family? Seriously Bill and Arthur are in the same family! we know Arthur we’ll care as a movie audience if he gets mauled. Even if they introduce Bill will we be attached enough to his character to care – the guy can only get like 15 minutes of screentime before he gets mauled becasue Harry is at Hogwarts and Bill is not. We’ve known Mr Weasley since CoS. We have a relationship with him. If it was Bill – even if they introduced him in GoF we’d probably forget who the hell he was by the time the end of HBP came around I had barely an idea who Tonks was when she arrived in the DoM because she was so infrequent. “Oh yeah that’s right, I know her…”

There was NO ROOM for Bill in OotP. His scenes are in Grimauld Place but you had to have Ron, Hermione, Ginny, twins, Sirius, Mr and Mrs W and Lupin and Kingsley and Moody there – where the heck would they have PUT Bill? So what we get 5 minutes of him at the end of GoF oogling Fleur and another 2 minutes screen time in Grimmauld Place, squashed in the background of a shot and a scene at Christmas in HBP, the guy has very little meaningful dialogue and then we are supposed to care when Fenrir attacks him?

That is not how you build up movie characters.

I am looking very much forward to see Tom Fleton in this movie I think the epic confrontations between he and Harry will be fabulous. It’s been building slowly, i can’t wait to see him stretch it.

Avatar Image says:

I really like the fact that Arthur gets attacked…I really wanted this almost-deathly experience to be in the movie and I think that Arthur is a character that most movie-goers can feel sorry for instead of a Weasly member that we’ve never seen before..I mean, even in the book, I wasn’t that sad about the attack..Bill was always a cameo that I couldn’t really feel sad for..(as I did feel with Fred, Tonks or Lupin)

@Neil “I mean to the non-reader they are going to believe it’s Arthur who gets bitten by Fenrir, when it actually isn’t.” Well…yeah…because in terms of a movie Arthur is the one getting attacked…as in OotP Cho is the one to betray (even because of Veritaserum)...as in Philosopher’s Stone..(one of the movies made by Colombus – a director that many love bacause he left everything in – ) Ron went into the Dark Forest instead of Neville and he actually never got burnt by Norbert..and there were many many changes even in that film…

I don’t care about the changes that have to be made..Because they HAVE to be made..I t is a movie..the movie works with pictures and not words..You have to see an attack and not listen about in on the radio…you have to feel the danger of death-eaters..and not have the characters read about it in a newspaper..when are you people going to learn??

Avatar Image says:

lets just say goodbye to the wedding now.

Avatar Image says:

I have to add sth:

@Kezzabear… I agree massively with you!!!

Avatar Image says:

I have also been disappointed with the movies. I will go see the last 3 because I’ll need to have the closure, but for me, they are nothing compared to my love for the canon! I agree with those who’d made a comparison to the LOTR trilogy. I loved those books so much, and was worried about the movies, but they turned out to be fantastic. What those writers and Peter Jackson did with the essence of the story was breathtaking. I can handle slight changes from the books when the true spirit of the piece is maintained. LOTR did that for me. I wish I could say as much for the HP movies. The Fenrir/Arthur stuff doesn’t bother me too much, except that I do think leaving out Bill and Fleur is a huge mistake as it relates to the conclusion of the series. Dobby’s death and burial scenes were just about the best part of DH for me. Where are you going to put that if not at Shell Cottage? (Not to mention where they’ll have to move the Griphook and Ollivander scenes?)

Avatar Image says:

Pfft purists! If it works on screen I’m all for it. It’s not like it ruins the book, it’s still sitting on the shelf ya know people. Unless you all dump the book once the movie comes out, why are you worried?

Avatar Image says:

Don’t forget, the movies are NOT supposed to be carbon copies of the books, but interpretations of them. INTERPRETATIONS.

BUT that interpretation stinks!! That would make Arthur a werewolf and that won’t fit in, in the 7th book and I’m sure if he was a werewolf his job at the minestry would be over…hope it’s a rumor!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

good for T felton.

I really, really hope that Fenrir attacking Arthur is just a rumor or something they though they would do but later cut. it’s stupid. Arthur ALREADY GOT HURT we already saw the impact that had, d0n’t make it uncesary repetitive just because Bill wasn{t cast

then again the movie article description is sort of vague, maybe Fenrir hurt arthur but doesn{t maul him or maybe since thet bothered to put this twisted scenario Mrs. Weasley or someone is able to heal arthur.

Avatar Image says:

Honestly, how can Arthur being the one who is attacked “ruin” the movie? What does it change? Nothing. Sure we don’t see Fleur and Bill, but we knew that months ago, so we don’t need to see Molly’s approval of their relationship at the end of the story.

Arthur being attacked will be more emotional for the audience because we know who he is, and he not some random new character the film audience has never seen before. I’m cool with this.

Avatar Image says:

Bill/Fleur is my favourite ship after R/Hr. And if they DARE not put B/Fl in DH I shall murder one of these stupid directors.

Avatar Image says:

I think you mean you will murder THE director. David Yates is the only director. But if Bill and Fleur aren’t in HBP then I think it will probably be more of Steve Kloves fault than David Yates’.

Avatar Image says:

can someone tell eru and the 2nderu to get out? or get their comments out they have nothing to do with the post at all and they are rude and immature

Avatar Image says:

Lotr was a movie created after all the books were finished. Whole different ball game. You know what characters are important from the begining so the merging of and taking out characters are done with the knowledge of how it will affect the end. Also the Harry Potter movies have a made for a younger audience feel to them then LOTR. Which I think in the end is one one of the reasons that people are disappointed with them.

I just don’t see how B&F are important enough to freak out about. Their stuff can be told using other characters. Arthur being attacked and scarred forever can be a wonderful addition to the movie. Arthur is a sweet man and he wasn’t savaged in HP5 (book or movie). From the sound of this and the way bill was attacked this could be a really powerful scene. It’ll affect the characters it has too and really make the point that the death eaters are evillll. Now don’t get me wrong I know they added extra family spirit. We got to know a lot about Molly though her views of her future daughter in law. They were nice characters on their own. As for the wedding-it can stay or go for the next movie. Harry is kind of close to Lupin and perhaps will make the impact of Lupin making Harry Teddy’s godfather and the deaths of Tooks&Lupin more meaningful in the movie. But everything that happens at the wedding can happen at Harry’s birthday party.

Avatar Image says:

I don’t share the opinion that the movies either degenerated or improved after CoS. OoTP and PoA were superior to the Columbus efforts but GoF (although it had enjoyable scenes – it’s HP!) was a structural mess. Just my take, feel free to disagree (hides under the table lol)

Avatar Image says:

Forget to say – and EVERY movie has taken liberties with book canon.

Avatar Image says:

I have to say that i will be very dissapointed if this rumour is true. I do agree that directors and story writers cannot fit everything into these movies but to take characters out that aren’t supposed to be taken out , so late in the movie series is completely dumb. Again if the rumour is true i cannot believe that JKR would let this masicure of the final 3 books commence filming!!! We’ll have to see….................

Avatar Image says:

I don’t get why some of you guys are *itching about this. It makes no sense to me. At least they even put a werewolf scene in! I don’t think that this should be a huge problem at all. Arthur replacing Bill … I don’t see anything wrong with that. We will judge how it is when the movie comes out. And I’m pretty sure some of you “disappointed” or “pissed off” people will like the change.

Avatar Image says:

oof, Arthur just got mauled by a snake in OotP, now he gets mauled by a werewolf. he’s a tough cookie that just won’t die, right?

Avatar Image says:

Well, if they can change it to Arthur, then they can also change it so that his wounds could be healed. They can pretty much do anything they want actually. I like this about as much as I liked them making Cho the one who betrayed the DA, which is to say, not too darn much.

Avatar Image says:

I love when people say the LotR films were “true to the books.” Umm…no they weren’t. If they had been, we would of had to sit through 3 hours of hobbits singing and walking through the woods in the Fellowship. Peter Jackson changed enough of the story and the characters to make them interesting, and he did a very good job of it. I wish the HP films were as cohesive.

Avatar Image says:

That would be horrible if was true! By the way, the wedding isn’t in book 6 it’s in book 7, so there’s still a chance there could be one.

Avatar Image says:

toms always been a great malfoy, he really makes you hate him, im anxious to see how he adds depth to the character, especially how he deals with his obligations to voldemort. as for mr. weasley getting mauled instead, i dont like it, like alot of you im sure. the lack of bill and fleur not only messes up the wedding, but ….omg…shell cottage…..where will the bury dobby, where will they plot the gringotts break-in….where will they talk to olivander, let alone where will they escape to after malfoy manor?! i understand its supposed to be an “interpretation” but it seems like more of a mutilation from the rumors, JO say it aint so!

Avatar Image says:

that is bull right there. And loads of it. I’d rather have them not have that storyline instead of having arthur get attacked, that’s just crud right there. Ah well, it’s warner bros. I’m not surprised. And quite frankly, i don’t think i even care…

Avatar Image says:

Here is any easy way to keep the wedding and shell cottage without completely confusing the audience: Lupin and Tonks get married at the Burrow, and then move to Shell Cottage. Holy cow, it’s a miracle!

Oh sorry the quote is, “I’m safe with you, Harry”

Avatar Image says:

Switching the warewolf attack from Bill to Mr. Weasley makes loads of sense from a film perspective. It’s all about the booking, really. For the attack to have any dramatic weight, it has to happen to a character we’ve known throughout the FILM series. Bill’s never been mentioned in the previous five movies because there just wasn’t any time. Introducing and developing Bill in the sixth film, while doing the same for Slughorn, Romilda, and young Tom Riddle, will only lead to about five minutes of screen time for Bill. Also, if Fenrir did attack Bill, it would weaken the warewolf character because he just attacked a character we’ve only seen for a few minutes. Fenrir would look much more sinister and deadly if he attacks Mr. Weasley, a character whom we’ve seen and cared for previously.

Avatar Image says:

Aw, c’mon. It’s not THAT big of a deal. I mean, it’s not the first time they’ve made major plot cuts and steamrolled on by.

SPEW? The Marauders (I’m still waiting for them to explain that to the non-book readers), most of the GoF movie, etc. The fact, is, you can cut that part of the story (or remove it entirely) without causing problems moving forward.

Trust me, changing that won’t be the biggest offense they’ll make on the next 3 movies.

I’m still trying to figure out how Neville is going to die saving them from Malfoy manor AND be the hero of the battle at the end. Tonks is already preggers at the time; is it going to be like a hillbilly wedding?

Avatar Image says:

this is f’ed up. seriously it is. There shouldn’t be a screenplay or anything anymore. They should just take the book, hand it to the director and tell them to read that and theres the script. ugh seriously.

Avatar Image says:

chants to movie makers You don’t know what you’re doing! You don’t know what you’re doing!

Avatar Image says:

That scan is only talking about characters, not events in the movie. Look what I found on HP lexicon. It’s their section on Greyback:

“The night that Dumbledore was killed, Greyback attacked Harry, but Harry (or someone unseen) petrifies him in time (HBP27). Bill Weasley wasn’t so lucky. Greyback nearly killed him and mauled his face so badly that Madam Pomfrey could not restore it.”

They blatantly mistook Bill’s name as being Ron’s dad’s name, so in trying to seperate what they wrote from what was written on the lexicon, they did this.

It’s not true

Avatar Image says:

What, so, Arthur nearly dies in both movie 5 and 6? Isn’t that a bit… repetitive?

Avatar Image says:

Will, LoL. You’re right. They’re not talking about the movie, they’re talking about the book. I guess it pays to actually READ the scan.

Avatar Image says:

You people really need to get lives. Are you that lazy about reading the books that you have to have every single page word for word on screen? Most adaptations work best NOT when they are exact duplicates; rather, when they are adapted and have some changes. Can you imagine how boring Gone With the Wind would have been? Chamber of Secrets left out so much, but stayed too true to the book that what was left is not cohesive enough to get through to the end of the story. So what if it’s Arthur Weasley is attacked instead of Bill? It’s not essential. None of the side stories/actions are essential to the overall plot of the story. Get a grip!

Avatar Image says:

They are changeing wa too much they need to stick to what the book says

Avatar Image says:

STOP. READ THIS.

Guys, if you read the scans from the actually story, you’ll notice that they’re not talking about the movie in this segment of the article, it’s about the book. Will already pointed it out.

How do I know? Because they discuss characters that we know ARE NOT in the film. For instance, Scrimgeour, Morfin, and Marvolo are all mentioned in this guide, but we know they were cut from the film a long time ago. So therefore they cannot possibly be reffering to the Movie. The writer is talking about the book, but the author messed up.

Nice catch Will.

Avatar Image says:

I was so relieved when i read this! It makes SO much more sense to have Arthur being mauled rather than Bill. In the whole movie series, we have seen Bill once, and that was in the newspaper picture in POA. Like many people have already pointed out, it would be alot sadder for the movie audience to see Arthur, who we know well and like, die, rather then Bill who we have never met.

The movies are no meant to be exactly like the books! As brilliant as the books are, scenes HAVE to be cut out. Some people might not mind sitting through a 6 hour movie, but i would. I’d HATE the movies to be word for word the same as the books. Because then you’d know EXACTLY what was going to happen, you’d know EXACTLY what people would say, and it would be boring. I love it when the movies add scenes because it’s something different that we’ve never seen before, which makes it exciting!

Some people need to get into into their heads that the movies are going to change things. Get over it! JK Rowling agrees with any changes made, so if they’re good enough for her, then they should be good enough for us. End of.

Avatar Image says:

I’d like to see if the wedding WILL happen in DH. Possibly Bill will be mauled in the DH movie, and thus the wedding will still work.

Avatar Image says:

I hope the Arthur/Greyback thing is only a rumor. Should be interesting to watch Draco’s character development though.

Avatar Image says:

I can pretty much handle any change, as long as Dobby’s rescue, death and burial is shown and done with as much respect and love as it is in the book. This is really the only thing I’m asking for. That is in my top 2 scenes for DH and I will not forgive WB if they cut or maul it.

Avatar Image says:

I actually think this change could be very smart in the context of the flim. If they aren’t going to include Bill and Fleur, then the wedding at the beginning of DH can be Tonks and Lupin’s. It will make their deaths at the end of DH all the more tragic because the people who haven’t read the books will have a stronger emotional connection to them.

And guys, seriously, if you are that upset about this change, you probably shouldn’t go see the movie at all. It will just upset you. It just really annoys me when 10 minutes after the midnight showing lets out, there are people posting everywhere about how much they hated the flim because so much was cut out. Get over it. You claim to understand that they can’t leave everything in the books in the flims, and yet when they cut things out or change things you still complain. I have accepted the fact that the movies will make (sometimes drastic) changes to the plotline, and I am therefore quite happy when I walk out of the theater because the changes bother me.

Avatar Image says:

*do not bother me.

Avatar Image says:

@cherri, thank you, thank you, thank you! i agree 100%.

Avatar Image says:

@anotherweasley

Will you be upset if all of Dobby’s stuff goes to Kreacher instead?

Avatar Image says:

Cool. I never liked the Bill, Fleur thing. It was just all so random. I feel a different character should be mauled though. Mr. Weasly got attacked by Nagini. I think it should be one of the students so that every time we see him we will be reminded that no where is safe. With Mr. Weasly, you are just like, “Again? Rotten Luck.”

Maybe Dean or Seamus or someone Harry has grown up with.

Avatar Image says:

I’m mad. I understand that everything that is in the books can’t possibly make it into the movies but it really irks me when they make a major plot change like this. So now Arthur was attacked by a werewolf? I guess they are completely taking Bill out of the series. I bet they have the attack in Deathly Hallows happen at Remus and Tonks’ wedding or some nonsense like that. And if there’s no Bill what about Shell Cottage and Dobby’s death? They’ll have to change that all up too. Oh but I forgot, morons write these scripts. They’ll probably take out Dobby completely or combine his character with Colin Creavey or just make up a completely new character that no one will care about at all. These idiots are ridiculous.

Avatar Image says:

@ caity, it’s not morons writing the script—it’s professionals who do this for a living and it is their art. circumstances and events aren’t changed just for the hell of it; there’s always a reason, and even if you disagree with some of the edits, that certainly does not make the filmmakers “idiots,” nor does it make them “ridiculous.”

Avatar Image says:

Darn…how are they gonna pull off Bill and Fleur in the next 2 movies then? Bill and Fleur are really kinda vital to the Deathly Hallows, so…not sure how this is gonna play out. Why oh why did they never show Bill and Charlie in these movies? It’s like they don’t even exist….

Avatar Image says:

I’m a bit baffled by all the fuss about swapping Arthur for Bill in he Fenrir scene, to be honest. A scene like that requires an emotional investment in the character involved. If it is Bill then why would the average moviegoer care? They haven’t seen him before so they haven’t built up an attachment to him. Arthur is different as he has been there from the start so the average moviegoer will care about what happens to him. It is a decision that makes perfect sense.

For me this is just another case of a scene that is changed slightly in a way that doesn’t the scene any harm yet has all people all up in arms about it because it isn’t exactly the same as the book. All the scene needs is for somebody to be savaged by Fenrir Greyback to show how dangerous he is. Who it is doesn’t make a blind bit of difference to the overall story.

Avatar Image says:

I can’t wait to read my copy of Movie Magic, I had my dad pick it up for me at the store this morning, but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. God I really really really hope they don’t cut the wedding or just turn it into a party or something and even more I wish they would keep it as Bill and Fleur. I really feel like Bill and Fleur added to the story and it just doesn’t seem right to trade Tonks and Lupin for them in every scene they were supposed to be in. We all know Tonks and Lupin would never have had a big wedding like that. Its just not their style. However, I would rather have a wedding with Tonks and Lupin than no wedding scene at all. I love Tonks and Lupin, but I loved Bill and Fleur too, especially Fleur, she’s just funny.

Avatar Image says:

Call me the devil’s advocate, but I actually really like this twist! I just assumed they’d cut the Fenrir mauling out of the films completely, but I loved the idea of Fleur still loving Bill even after he got mauled. Now, Molly and Arthur have been married for like thirty years, so they have an even stronger background of love that can win out over something like that. And their strong relationship continuing even after the attack would be just as much encouragement for Remus.

I agree that it’s a shockingly big change, and I’m really surprised that they’d do it, but I think it’d work as a whole—after all, Arthur doesn’t do much in the sixth book, does he? Feel bad for the guy, though—he already had to go through one attack for Harry’s sake.

Avatar Image says:

OMG :|! Well…I guess this wouldn’t the first time David has done this BS! In Ootp, you saw how they just completely switched it around and made Cho Chang the traitor that told about DA. WB HAS DONE IT AGAIN :|!!! SMH!

Avatar Image says:

They will probably have Ron go to Tonks and Remus house and that house be the shell cottage of the films.

Ofcoruse then the whole argument between harry and Remus now gets confusing. if that’s even in the final film at all.

Avatar Image says:

Interesting interesting interesting. Expanding the werewolf fights sounds fun. I would much preferred Bill to be the one attacked, but we know we’re not getting Bill. If they so it well, I suppose I would be ok with Arthur being the one torn up.

It’s just a rumor, but it sounds likely. Even more likely would be, nobody gets mauled by Greyback, and they just fight him off.

I’m guessing HBP will have the most deviation from the book, out of the whole series. Best be prepared!

Avatar Image says:

Draco Malfoy has been my favorite Harry Potter character for a long time and im really excited to see the HBP because he has a really big part in it! It should be real intresting to see how good of a job Tom Felton does in the HBP!

Avatar Image says:

First I just want to say two things: I believe that everyone on here is an HP fan. Let’s stop bashing each other. The people who are unhappy about the changes they make for the films have every right to come here and complain about it, that is what the comments are FOR. Commentary. Opinion. If you are NOT unhappy about the changes, this is also the spot to come say so. The two points of view do not have to agree. But telling someone who disagrees with you that they need to grow up, stop whining or get a life, or that they are being stupid, childish, idiotic, mean, whatever, has no place here. Just say you disagree. Secondly, whichever side of the issue you are on, if you can’t express yourself without resorting to foul language or name-calling, please keep it to yourself. Thanks.

Now…

I agree, leaving Dobby out of DH is my biggest fear for that movie, as well. On top of the emotions, his story line is vital, IMO, to Harry, the decisions he makes and his personal growth. But the fact is, we have not seen or even heard Dobby’s name since COS. Unless he shows up in HBP, to prep the movie-only audience for his role in DH, I have a feeling we are going to be very disappointed. Their track record does not encourage me.

Posted by the laughing man: “Trust me, changing that won’t be the biggest offense they’ll make on the next 3 movies.”

ROTFLMAO! You are so right. Unfortunately!

mollywobble & will: good catch that they are quoting the Lexicon and not even talking about the movie. So is all this hullabaloo for nothing? That would be funny if these rumors didn’t get people so riled up. Sigh I guess we will have to wait and see. :)

Avatar Image says:

If Fleur is not in HBP, and neither is Bill, what’s going to happen to Shell Cottage and everything that happens in there, in DH?!!!

Avatar Image says:

hmmm, I wonder what else we can look forward to? Lupin kills Dumbledore? McGonagall is the DADA teacher? Harry falls in love with Romilda Vane? Ron snogs Pansy Parkinson? Umbridge is the new Minister?

Avatar Image says:

I’m totally fine with this. Bill is a completely boring and undeveloped character in the books, and has no place in the films. Having Arthur being the one to be mauled instead is a great idea!

Avatar Image says:

Everyone—did you read the scan of the article?? I was a bit worried myself UNTIL I read the scan and it referenced Fenrir being part of the snatchers and taking Harry and co to Malfoy Manor for a reward from Voldemort. We ALL know the snatcher aren’t in HBP! They are in DH. So that’s WRONG info. Plus haven’t we heard that they only Voldemort in HBP is young Tom Riddle and Ralph Fiennes isn’t in HBP??

So I think we should definitely view this as distinctly possibly an error about Arthur—or at least even if true about Arthur, unlikely that they will cut Dobby or Shell Cottage, etc.

Avatar Image says:

hmmmm. that kinda sucks about arthur weasly getting attacked instead of bill. does that mean no bill and fleur in the movie?? i was really looking forward to ginny’s nickname for her :]. oh well. poor mr. weasly. two attacks in consecutive years. bad luck..

Avatar Image says:

LemonFaerie-Thank you, I tried to say the same thing before, maybe they will listen to you. Everybody is entitled to their opinions. I wish people didn’t feel like they had to be mean to others. And remember that not only adults go on this site. Also, I don’t remember who said it, but if Arthur gets mauled by a fenrir, that doesn’t mean he will become a werewolf. Remember that it wasn’t during the full moon, Bill just gets hurt and has a liking for very rare steaks. How about we all wait to see what really happens. We could all be argueing for nothing. And can anybody that is really upset about this honestly say that they aren’t still going to go to the movie and then buy it when it comes out?

Avatar Image says:

I will be very disappointed if the attack happens to arthur. I don’t see why they can’t add and extra 15-20 minutes to the film to get bill and fleur in there. Shell cottage is a big part of book 7, not to mention the wedding. They had a good opportunity to introduce bill in the OOTP movie, but blew that. If they go that route then I think that new line and peter jackson should buy the rights in about 10 years and re-make each movie as faithfully(or close to it) as they did LOTR!

Avatar Image says:

I wouldn’t read any hidden meaning or secret plot twist into that comment in Movie Magic. I have found MANY typos and name mistakes throughout Movie Magic magazine issues for the past movies. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just another careless proof reading mistake on their part.

Avatar Image says:

In Regards to hinkypunkmum’s comment on the first page:

You said: “The message of love will be the same, whether it is Fleur or Tonks or Mrs. Weasley [dealing with their love being attacked by Fenrir].”

I have to say that I know what you mean by this, however, in the books it is very important that Bill was attacked as opposed to Arthur because as we may remember Mrs. Weasley wasn’t too thrilled about Fleur and Bill being together because she thought that Fleur’s feelings for Bill were less than sincere and based purely on Bill’s good looks. Therefore, when Bill is attacked and is horribly scarred, it proves to Molly finally that Fleur does have a deep seeded love for Bill in that she stays by his side through the whole ordeal and still wants to be with him.

That is why I would be most disappointed if this rumor turns out to be true – there are so many pitfalls for other major characters that I feel the Fenrir attack would not be missed so much if they do not cast Bill or Fleur.

Avatar Image says:

I agree with Carrie. I really don’t like it at all, but at this point they have already deviated from the books so much that there is no turning back and so the movies will really be for the people who have never and will probably never read the books. Sigh. I had really hoped that the movies would follow the books because they are so fantastic. Maybe I’ll remake these in the future and make them all super long or split them into 2 movies so I can fit all the awesomeness into them! haha!! O, to dream! :D

Avatar Image says:

@Steve

“I don’t see why they can’t add and extra 15-20 minutes to the film to get bill and fleur in there.”

Because it’s terrible storytelling from a film standpoint to spend 15-20 minutes introducing characters who are completely unimportant to the plot.

“Shell cottage is a big part of book 7, not to mention the wedding.”

No, shell cottage and the wedding are entirely unimportant in book 7. That is, the details of whose wedding it is and who owns the house. What’s important is that the death eaters attack Harry someplace where he is safe, and that Harry and friends settled in a hiding place before the Gringotts heist. If the filmmakers are smart, they’ll substitute Lupin and Tonks for Bill and Fleur, since they’re more interesting characters that we’re already invested in.

“If they go that route then I think that new line and peter jackson should buy the rights in about 10 years and re-make each movie as faithfully(or close to it) as they did LOTR!”

Actually, Peter Jackson took FAR more liberties with the LOTR books than any director has with any of the Harry Potter books.

Avatar Image says:

WTH.. it’s OoTP all over again… i’ll save the heart burn and maddness of watching the film by waiting for everyone to do so first. If i think they butchered it which they probably will, then it doesn’t earn my money.

Avatar Image says:

I’m all for changing the attack from Bill to Arthur, putting the story on hold just so you can meet and get to know Bill would be a terrible idea, he doesn’t really play much of an important role in any of the books that can’t easily be omitted or switched out with another character.

It doesn’t hurt the story at all if you switch Bill and Fleur’s wedding and Shell Cottage for Lupin and Tonks, and would even intensify Harry’s argument with Lupin as he’d be shown regretting marrying Tonks only a short time after having married her, and Ron could surely just as easily find shelter with the Lupins as he could with Bill and Fleur, and in the films he only needs to mention where he went.

I’m also happy to hear Tom Felton’s getting more face time in this movie after having a whopping 2 or 3 lines in the last film.

That said I’ve thought the writers and producers have done a pretty good job seeing as when they started the series when over half the books were still a work in progress and a lot of the details were still a secret. (except for POA, completely leaving out an explanation of the Marauders was unforgiveable). And the praise people are giving Peter Jackson for the LOTR trilogy compared to the ridicule awarded to the Potter directors is ridiculous, he butchered the books and strayed in places far worse than any Potter director ever has.

Avatar Image says:

In re-reading the books, I’m more and more amazed at how brilliantly Steve Kloves has adapted them, retaining the essence of the stories, jettisoning unnecessary sub-plots etc. I think OOP (NOT a Kloves adaptation) did a little too much at streamlining the importance of the prophecy (and Snape and Trelawney’s involvement in it), but on the whole the films have been incredibly successful adaptations. Let’s not forget that nothing would be done without Jo’s OK.

Avatar Image says:

It’s rather strange, I keep hearing(reading) someone saying they had to split DH into two movies because there is nothing that could be left out of DH.

Unlike OotP where they shredded the book and then picked up a few of the shreds to tack together for a movie. I am still waiting for them to make the OotP movie. All we have seen so far is a long, piecemeal trailer!

If it is true that Bill and Fleur are not part of the movie, then it is obvious that they decided on making two movies from DH for solely monetary reasons. They can screw it up any way the want. It’s the last book and movie and they do not have to consider keeping the fans for another book or movie.

OotP and DH movies will have one thing in common. They both will have scenes that were not in the books. After they cut most of the book from the OotP long trailer, they added the scene of the paper airplane evolving into a bird as it flew. DH will have a scene added to illustrate the terrors and destruction muggles are experiencing from the deatheaters’ rampages.

If they can add a scene, then they should also keep true to the book.

Avatar Image says:

omg this is stupid if fleur and bill are not in it then fiddles with all jo’s work and the angles of the story, this is rediculous is david yates despritley trying to ruin the films. i like mr. weasley he’s already been atticked by a snake now a warewolf what next i was looking forward to the big wedding this is totaly rewining it sorry about my spelling !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

Unfortunately, I can see WB eliminating Bill and Fleur and substituting Tonks and Lupin for both the wedding and Shell cottage, but if they do that, then they’ll have to change the Epilogue—it wouldn’t make any sense for Teddy to be snogging Victoire because no one would know who she is. Suppose they can just cut him out completely too. Actually, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they cut the epilogue.

Avatar Image says:

Cutting Bill and Fleur out doesn’t mean they’re doing it solely for the monetary reasons, while it’s definitely a plus for the filmmakers that it’ll probably make twice as much money, there’s so much that needs to happen in DH to complete it, you couldn’t fit searching for Harry leaving the Dursleys, the wedding, searching for horcruxes, breaking into gringotts, and the ministry, explaining the Hallows, along with the battle at hogwarts into 2 hours.

Also how can you compare a short 10 second clip of Umbridge setting a paper airplane on fire at the beginning of her class, that’s setting the tone for the audience she’s going to be a total kill joy, to adding an entire scene in HBP that helps convey the sense of danger? It’s not so hard to do in the books because you get to look into Harry’s thoughts and emotions that can’t be portrayed on screen. I don’t see the added scene so much as extra, as it is a replacement for all the times in the book when they hear about a murder, or attack or disappearance. Because you could probably show that everyone is in danger by having Hermione sit and read the Prophet out loud every morning to Harry and Ron, or you could show them how much danger everyone’s in by having death eaters attack at one of the places Harry is supposed to feel safe, which in the long run saves time, and does a better job of getting the point across on screen.

And Order of the Phoenix was about as good as it could have been, it had the Dementor attack, Grimmauld Place, the hearing, it did a great job of showing how terrible Umbridge was, it had Harry’s dreams, Arthur’s attack, Grawp, the DA, Occlumency, the fight at the ministry, the prophecy, and an epic battle between Voldemort and Dumbledore, asking for something else would just mean something else would have to get cut, you can’t have a 3-4 hour movie.

Also I doubt they’d cut out Teddy as Jo said she wrote the epilogue for his benefit, he could still be talked about or featured in the film, i remember when i first read it i was like…wait who’s Victoire? All James says is she’s their cousin, I don’t remember Bill and Fleur being directly mentioned in the epilogue.

Avatar Image says:

oh nooo no, I was sitill still still hoping for Bill…, Fleur…. snif snif

Avatar Image says:

... If they don’t include Fleur and Bill in DH, what will happen to the whole “Dobby dying” scene…? Well, I’m glad to hear that Mr. Felton is gonna do an even better job. Not at all like he hasn’t been doing a wonderful job in his part as Draco Malfoy. I expect a preformance from him that makes me go, “Bravo! Bravoooo!” now. ;) Hehehe, I don’t like his hair too much in the pic though. I’m not one for guys with very long hair, but it just looks… weird to me.

Avatar Image says:

I think some of you make a lot of sense. As much as I wish Bill and Fleur were in it, just adding 15 mins to the story for them will make the people that haven’t read the books confused. Since he wasn’t really introduced in OOTP, they won’t understand. I know most of the people seeing the movie have read the books, but as it has been said, it’s a movie, not a book. We can’t expect everything to be the same. If you all can take a step back, you will probably see that it will still be a great and entertaining movie. And really, stop ragging on the producer, he didn’t write it. And if it bothered Jo, it wouldn’t be in the movie. Since we all love what she has done, we should trust her to make the right choice. Are you all saying you don’t trust her judgement? Relax, enjoy what you’re getting from the movie. Enjoy what your getting from the books. Just remember that they are seperate things, both great in their own, but different ways.

Avatar Image says:

Thats so stupid. I wish they’d just stick to the books.

Avatar Image says:

Well if they’re going to defy canon in the movies that much I think I’ll start a petition for the director of Deathly Hallows to change some more book canon, eg, the part where everyone dies.

Avatar Image says:

If you’re going to tell a story right, tell it properly or not at all!

Avatar Image says:

I also look forward to seeing Tom as Draco having a bigger role. I’m glad they included his storyline (could as well have gotten cut) and put a bit of focus on it.

About the rumoured new scene: I am not at all convinced there will be such a scene merely because of the nature of the magazine that has printed the ‘news’. By the looks of it, it’s known for sloppy ‘journalism’. If they actually have a scene where Arthur instead of Bill gets mauled by the werewolf , I’m not too fussed about it. Sure, it’s a repetition to have Arthur get injured again, but, as others have said, the emotional impact, the sense of something really dreadful happening, will be bigger with a well known character instead of a character who was just introduced. I would have loved to see Bill, and Charlie for that matter, onscreen, because I love the whole Weasley family, but I have accepted they won’t be cast and understand why. It’s better that way than what they did with Percy. He was shown in the first three movies, then cut from GoF. Then they include him in OotP, but the whole storyline which his character was all about in OotP got cut, the alienation between Percy and the family wasn’t even mentioned. He was just shown in two or three scenes alongside the Minister – was his name even mentioned? Movie-only people will likely not have known who he is. That’s what I would call a waste.

Of course we still have a bit of hope that Bill wiil be shown in DH and we’ll have a Bill/Fleur wedding (I would LOVE to see Great Aunt Muriel btw. Anyone here can imagine Dame Judy Dench in that role? LoL), but it would make sense to change that for a Lupin/Tonks wedding.

Avatar Image says:

First of all the Harry Potter movies are ridiculous! My big toe is a better actor than Daniel Radcliff, only half decent actor is Ron and all he has said in the last 5 films is “well done mate” and now their trying to change the story, they cant even do their own job well never mind trying to do JK’s and if they think their own story’s better then their just wrong plain and simple. The casting is also terrible, the only well cast character is Tonks and they hardly even put her in the movie. Lupin is supposed to be a bit scruffy not a twat with a dodgy tash! Gary Oldman’s a good actor but he’s just not Sirius and don’t even get me started on Kingsley Shackbolt…

Anyway to my point =P… they need to cast Bill at some point because he’s an important character in DH. It’s at his wedding when Death Eaters attack and we find out that the Scrigmour (sp) has been killed. Thats where they go after they escape from the Malfoy’s house, where the plan is made for the break in. Big points in the DH so they need to stop being lazy and cast him at some point.

Avatar Image says:

O.o What the hell have they done to Draco’s hair?! Now it looks wierd!! Tom Felton always looked so hot with the scruffy, longer haired look! It looks funny now..=( evil people!!

Hmm…not so sure I’m keen on Arthur being the one mauled…that’s Bill’s part. Aw hell, they HAVE to put the wedding in! I love that chapter!! So funny with Hermione’s bag! xD

Has anyone else noticed that the directors and script-writers seem to miss out the important parts of the books so it makes their job harder to make everything fit?! God knows how they’re gonna make them discover the locket in the 7th book! That was meant to happen in the 5th! Silly people!

To be honest, I’ll probably be happy as long as they put Quidditch and Sectumsempra in! And all the scenes with Draco in xD Lol!

Avatar Image says:

Umm…Garry….Lupin hasn’t GOT a tash! Lmao!!

Valy614, I TOTALLY agree. Tom Felton is a SUBERB actor and deserves every single ounce of praise he gets. He adapts so well and the way he portrays Draco is incredible. They couldn’t have chosen a better actor! I don’t see why they cut SO much out of the films! And extra half an hour would make the film SO much better and make more sense to the plots rather than trying to cut down the film to get it into a nice 1hr 45mins slot. It’s really annoying me! Can you tell?!

Avatar Image says:

As long as they’re doing plot twists, maybe in Deathly Hallows they could kill Percy instead of George. That makes more sense to me anyway.

Avatar Image says:

I think Cho should be mauled. Then we’d all be happy. What an awful and pointless character.

But I really don’t care about Bill/Fleur. It was all a bit random. I like the idea of Remus/ Tonks wedding and the trio going to their cottage to escape. That would be fun. And we would see the baby!!! I never liked Bill much anyway. Never saw much of him even when we were at the cottage.

sits here wondering if he’s posted this before

Personally I think that the filmakers need to at least attempt to keep some of the more critical details from the book in the movies, I don’t know about anyone else, but I see the movie in my head when I read the book, and am rather disappointed when I see the movies. I for one really wouldn’t care if the movie was 3 hrs long to make it closer to the book and get the majority of stuff in there… it would make them much better. There are many details that add to the story left out of the movies… just isn’t the same.

no no, the scene between Fluer and Molly was so poignant and tearful. When Fluer shows what she is really made of. You don’t think he will love me anymore… I am beautiful enough for both of us and it shows my husband is a brave man…. and then Fluer starting to wipe Bill’s face and Mrs. Weasley telling her of the tirara iand falling in each others arms was such good writing. It really upsets me that they will leave this part out.

I go into the harry Potter movies and forget they are a book series. The books and movies are two separate things with me. Then I am not disappointed.

I 100%, absolutely, positively agree with NEVILE & LONELYANGEL, (just thought I’d emphasize it, lol) Tom Felton is a GREAT actor, and I could really care less about who gets attacked by the werewolf, or the golden trio ;rolleyes; This movie is all about DRACO baabby! And I CAN’T wait for Tom Felton’s performance, I know he’s going to be awesome! It is his time to SHINE

Does anybody realize that some of you are actually saying you don’t like some of Jo’s writing? If that’s the case, then why have you continued to read the books or go on this website? Any authors that I’ve heard talk about the subject say that they would prefer to have people not read their books then to not fully enjoy them. I don’t know about any of you, but I trust Jo, and her decisions. She has a lot of say about the movies. If she likes it, then we should keep an open mind and give it a chance. Think of it as Jo adding extra to the books if you’d like… I know this is about opinions, but I don’t think anybody wants to read about people critisizing Jo. This website it about HER work. If you don’t like it, don’t read them, don’t see the movies, and don’t complain about it.

i LURVE harrie pottah. canny w8 4 da next film YARR.

It’s not that I criticize her writing. I just think the Bill/Fleur thing was really random. And if Jo agree with Lupin and Tonks for the wedding and cottage, then I’ll be very happy. Because, as you said Emily, she has lots of say in the movies. Just think of it as modifying her book some more. They are only cutting out un-necessary characters and plots. The Lupin /Tonks is much more important and I am glad they are doing zat instead of Bill/Fleur. (I meant to do the “zat”)

Dementor the zat thing was very lame, you are very lame. i don’t like you.

i luv how everyone is really starting to relise how horrible OOTP as a film was. IT brings me such joy to read all the comments made about david yates and how he has taken the harry potter serious and screwed it up the pooper. mwaa haa haa haa!!!!!!!!

Curse you YATES and your little dog too!!!!

P.S. Try to pee less.

every change they make in the movies is pointless!

Avatar Image says:

why do they change the movies in totally pointless ways???? this plot change is SOOOOO stupid. dont do it.

Avatar Image says:

I definately agree with becky up there!!!!! the movie changes are so bad!!!

I remember you Ed Tom! I had forgotten until now. I don’t like you much either to be honest…to be honest again I could care less if you like me or not.

But I love the movies. I think they are so magical. OotP was the best movie but not the best book-movie adaption. It was like they made a different story. But I enjoyed it as a movie. It is my fav movie so far.

I agree some of the changes are awful but I just don’t let them bother me. I’m excited to see what is different in this film.

That “Try to pee less” was very lame…;D

I really agree with you there, Dementor. I enjoy the movies for what they are – movies. They are amazing, magical, and awesome. Some changes they have made are breathtaking – Buckbeak’s flight for instance, having Buckbeak fly right over Hogwarts and the lake was such a good idea, it’s my favourite scene of the POA movie by far – and the first task in GOF i love too. Making the dragon chase Harry out of the enclosure was amazing, i’m gripped in my seat every time i watch it, and right at the end when Harry and the dragon fall and it all goes quiet, then Harry appears in the distance and the music starts again aaah wait i’m going off topic. XD So, the movies DO do good changes. Just a little change like this – having Arthur mauled – will not damage the plot anymore than those two things up there that i mentioned ^.
