As we reported previously, the “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” film and a number of its cast, along with Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling, were nominees at the 2008 SyFy Genre Awards. These virtual awards allow fans to vote for their favorite film, series, book, and actor from the science fiction and fantasy genre each year. The winners of the SyFy Awards have been announced and include actress Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), in the category of Best Actress in a Film, as well as “Order of the Phoenix” in the category of Best Film. In addition to this, the article notes that Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling was chosen to receive the Gene Roddenberry Lifetime Achievement award. Congratulations to all!

Congrats to all! even though I love Emma I think its weird to give her awards for he role of Hermione in OOTP. Hermione is my favorite character in the books and she’s such a big part of OOTP book, and in the film I was like- where is Hermione!?(and same goes for Ron). so its weird to give her award for best actress. but I want many awards for her and others-so congrarts once again!

How does Emma Watson keep winning these things?!

Go Emma!!! Nice to see a majority of movie viewers love how you bring Hermione to life. Congrats Jo, you deserve it!!!

(Now sits back and waits for emma haters to spew their vomit and go nuts.)

Congratulations!

A HUUUUUGE congrats to JKR

Congrats Emma and Jo! Emma’s well loved, that’s why she keeps winning.

WOw, Emma is alwyas winning. Congrats to her. She deserves It. And JKR definetly deserves her lifetime achievement award. I

Wow congrats to all you all deserve your awards .

Avatar Image says:

Congrats Jo ! :)

Avatar Image says:

i feel bed i didn’t vote. but oh well they still won! way to go everyone.

Avatar Image says:

o_o Who casts these votes, honestly?

And why isn’t the article about Helena Bonham Carter’s four relatives passing up yet? My condolences to everyone on the bus and to her. ):

Avatar Image says:

Wow! The Gene Roddenberry Lifetime Achievement Award! Go Jo! Best Actress…go Emma! Both deserve their awards. I wish I had voted, as well. Congratulations, both of you fine ladies!

Avatar Image says:

Hanna: I don’t think that was the kind of thing to bring up, here. This is about Jo and Emma’s achievements. Again, Jo and Emma: Congratulations on such fine achievements!.

I find it hilarious that anyone who can’t find a better argument calls everyone who puts Emma in a negative light a “hater”.

Uh, yes. ‘Hating’ means you don’t like something… so obviously they are “haters”. That’s just stupid and redundant.

I think Emma is popular, but not because of her talent. She certainly deserves all these popularity awards, but in no way does that make her “best actress” in any shape or form, especially not over Helena Bonham Carter, Clair Danes, Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow.

I say she can’t act worth a damn, and portrays Hermione’s character in a shallow and inexpressive way. The only thing that moves is her eyebrows. The movie-Hermione is either angry or smiles prettily. I’m sure Emma would fare well in other careers.

Calling me a hater? Jealous? Not really, I have to admit. I have better things to do than to care about careers of small celebrities.

Avatar Image says:

That must have made me sound horrible.

Congrats Jo!

Avatar Image says:

Congrats to Emma, Jo and the cast & crew of OotP. Emma’s the best!!

I don’t hate Emma but i do hate her ‘acting’. She is awful and 2-dimensional in her portrayal of Hermione. She does not deserve an award for acting (especially over the other actresses). I’m sorry but those that voted for her are either blind, stupid or have no idea what good acting is.

Avatar Image says:

That are very good news, go Jo and Emma.

Emma is a very good and convincing actor of Hermione, she is inteligent, sensible, a good friend and exellent student.

Helena and Nicole are exellent too, but well Emma won over them and she well deserves it.

Avatar Image says:

Personally, I think Emma’s a wonderful actress and completely deserves this award. I just sort of wonder why people think she’s such a terrible actress when she beat hundreds of other girls for the role of Hermione and the last time I went to the movie theatre she was in previews for three different movies. Plus she’s a good role model seeing as she never gets into any trouble like many other actresses do which is especially good seeing as she was a child actress. Way to go Emma and Congrats to Jo too!

Avatar Image says:

I love Emma’s vision of hermione. So does everybody else since she keeps winning. Love the haters comments they can’t come up with nothing new. Emma and jo are brillant. Emma rules. Classy lady.

Avatar Image says:

way to go Jo and emma and the cast and crew of OOTP you deserve it

REPLY: I agree 100%

Avatar Image says:

I bet 99.99% of so called “Emma-haters” don’t even hate Emma at all, but are just not content with her acting. That’s how I feel. Yes, Emma is a great role model, she’s pretty, she’s nice, but can she act? Not really.

All you Emma fans are just clinging onto YOUR opinion, you don’t understand that other people have opinions that are different too.

Again, most “Emma-haters” don’t even hate Emma. They just don’t like her acting.

Avatar Image says:

Relax, girls….nobody is paying that much attention anyway.

Avatar Image says:

Congrats to all the OotP crew and cast. They all helped Emma and Jo. They deserve the awards. Emma is a great actress. Shes known as “one take Watson” for a reason.

Avatar Image says:

Yay for Emma fans. I’m congratulating her more than the Emma herself who probably knows her limitations in acting. I do feel bad that Bonham Carter didn’t win. Granted that Carter is not an excellent actress but she is miles ahead of Watson. But as I’ve said before, you can’t discount the dedication of the Emma fans. They’re among the most active when it comes to Internet voting.

And why didn’t Dan win? If it’s a matter of popularity, isn’t he more popular than Johnny Depp? Okay, I take that back. Depp is in a league of his own. Besides, the Dan fans don’t seem to care for this kind of fan awards anymore. But hey, let me put all the blame on myself. I should have voted on this thingy everyday – or every hour. But I guess, like many Dan fans , I don’t find fan awards as gratifying as much as I used to. Guess we all have to grow up some time.

Avatar Image says:

Helen, Of course Dan’s more popular than Johnny Depp! I mean, Johnny Depp’s great and everything – and I like him a lot! but in this kind of thing I would automatically vote for Dan – If it was me or Dan in any award I would still automatically vote for Dan!

Avatar Image says:

I can’t believe I actually posted that! that was so embarrassing!

well said, my friend, especially the eyebrows part, lol i remember reading a post somewhere about her being cast in napoleon and betsy and someone replied ‘Did the historical Betsy have Tourette’s Syndrome eyebrows?’ (something like that anyways) :D i couldn’t stop laughing for a good 10mins after i read that.

now i don’t think shes a bad person (how could i? i don’t even know her), but she seriously has to improve in the acting department

s’all i’m saying

Avatar Image says:

You obviously have no idea what Tourette’s Syndrome is. Do you really think the eyebrow thing is funny anymore. I think the people who keep bringing it up are the joke. Is that all you got? There are plenty of amazing oscar winning/nominated actresses that use facial expressions including eyebrows to act. Watch any reese Witherspoon movies or renee zellweger movies. And over 50,000 ballots were cast for this award, and Emma won. Get over it. BTW, ever see Sweeney Todd or are you not old enough, Depp moves his eyebrows alot. And he also won. Maybe you should learn more about acting.

Avatar Image says:

how marvellous Emma keeps winning!congrats to her and JKRowling.Emma haters should shut their mouths about her not being a good actress.

Avatar Image says:

Hurray! I have voted for Emma, Jo and Ootp and they all won (Except perhaps Daniel, I had also voted for him but he didn’t make it.)! Congratulation to Emma & J. K. Rowling. You guys deserve it more then anyone.

Many happy returns to the only man left in the world who can make the English language sound like music to the ears.

Avatar Image says:

Ooops posted that in the wrong board!

Avatar Image says:

Congrats Emma and JKR!!!!!!!!!! They both completely deserved it!!!!! And for all you people who think Emma’s acting is not good, you’re wrong! It shows that the majority of people out there actually prefer emma’s acting than anyone elses. And HELLO, eyebrow acting is ACTING!! Seriously if anyone thinks emma’s acting is below there standards, maybe they should go try acting themselves if they think they know all about acting.

Avatar Image says:

As much as I love Emma’s take on Hermione ever since Sorcerer’s Stone, the one actress who is woefully overlooked and I feel should have even deserved an Oscar nomination was Imelda Staunton. I was absolutely enthralled, and knocked over with her role as the evil Umbridge. She literally stole the movie in my opinion. It was a perfect performance that is almost (almost) on par with the Heath’s Joker in Dark Knight.

But kudos to Emma and Jo for their awards even though I feel its through popularity and in Emma’s case, perhaps glamour (?), that public votes edge them through. I dont mind. Emma is thoroughly enjoyable as Hermione (though I prefer her in years 1 and 2 before she got a little too intense in later movies). And of course Jo is the Queen of literature, and a living legend :)

Best OF Luck Emma From Vikas

Avatar Image says:

Congratulations! You all deserve it, and – as much as I like Emma and the way she brings Hermione to life – especially Jo!

Avatar Image says:

Professor Potter-

Umm you do realize that Imelda Staunton moved her eyebrows constantly thus she has to be the worst actor out of all of them. Really, they never stopped moving and from what I gather here- that’s bad acting because all these award winning actresses that post her know better. Umm, so although I also enjoyed Ms. Staunton’s performace I only managed to do so since I have no idea what good acting is.

Avatar Image says:

I can’t get over the way so many fans grasp at straws when it comes to Emma’s acting. She is unconvincing at her delivery is terrible. If you cannot see her limitations then you are deluded. She was praised for the first 3 films but HP 4 and 5, she’s been awful. She will not last as an actress if she doesnt improve.

Avatar Image says:

I’ve never been struck on Hermione in the books, except for in DH, so I am fine with the way Emma has portrayed her in the first four films. But one thing I would criticise her for is that she still isn’t getting across Hermione’s insecurity and softness as it appears in the books. That’s one thing I hope she can pull off in DH because that book really altered my perception of the three characters, and I absolutely loved Hermione in that book. She really showed off her tremendously gentle and caring side as well as her brains.

I can’t say I was overly impressed with her in OotP though. In some scenes she seemed forced, her words rushed out and she also seemed to be annoyed with the boys all the way through. One or two bits were good such as in the forest with the centaurs. She does ‘panic’ well.

Avatar Image says:

Laurel: Congrats Jo, Emma and all the OotP cast and crew! You deserve it . . .

Just a little side note to all you “Emma haters” out there if you disliked her performance and her so-called “poor acting skills” please try and keep it to yourself . . . it’s most unpolite to mock her achievements especially at a time when she has just won an award. Thank-you.

AGAIN CONGRATS TO ALL!

xx

Laurel: Just because we are some who think Emma´s “acting” is crap, doesn´t mean we shouldn´t be allowed to voice our opinions, as long as we´re NOT calling her stupid and ugly, and I don´t see any comments here calling her that.

I think Emma is smart, beautiful, intelligent, down to earth…..But her “acting”......aaaarggghhhhh

Avatar Image says:

Do you have an ambition that is still a dream? A dream to hold a prestigious acting award? But there is an obstacle in your life, isnt there? A curse that you were born with? Yes, you having moving eyebrows. Never fear. Botox is here. Stop those eyebrows moving, take our award winning treatment of Botox, and see your acting dreams fulfilled. Terms and conditions apply.

Avatar Image says:

Or maybe we should get Emma to have bangs in the next movie. They should cover ‘em up just fine!

lol. :)

C’MON people, SyFy Awards is a virtual awards that lets FANS vote for their favorites, EMMA won the award, that only means she’s GOT LOTS OF FANS who love and voted for her, let’s just RESPECT that. Frankly, I’m one of them and it really hurts reading negative comments on one of the most important character of our favorite novel Harry Potter. FOR ME and my collegues..WE LOVE YOU EMMA and CONGRATULATIONS FOR WINNING AND TO ALL YOUR ACHIVEMENTS.

CONGRATULATIONS too, to JK ROWLING, for contributing a wholesome lifetime of reading.

Avatar Image says:

‘hater hater hater :)’ you noticed the eyebrow thing too? damn me and my sister got laughs outta that. i was watching it randomly and she was being annoyingly nice (my sister aint normally nice haha) and i was getting so mad i was like “have you seen her eyebrows they’re mental!” just keep going up and down, they have a mind of their own. so i kept rewinding bits with her eyebrows going crazy and trying to make mine move like that hahaha.

but congratz to her anyway. she’s still a good hermione, in my opinion anyways. and congratz to jo too.

i agree with what people are saying though.. not sure why emma was chosen over people like helena bonham carter! she’s amazing. like seriously! unless of course it was just a popularity votes…

Avatar Image says:

Surprised Emma won it to be honest, her acting in OOTP was woeful…

Avatar Image says:

congratiolation!keep it up

Avatar Image says:

Congrats to Jo and Emma!!!
