We have some more great movie news this morning, as it has now been confirmed that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be shown in IMAX, released the same day as the film opens on November 21, 2008. Also of note to fans is word that sections of the film such as the dramatic events at Hogwarts and the finale of the movie will be shown in 3D, just as parts of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” were shown in IMAX 3D.

Thanks to Coming Soon.net for the heads up!

Interesting. I hope the climax of the film is longer than the OotP’s one which still was 20 minutes long and for thes eminutes it was fantastic but we all wanted a lot more. I hope the climax of HBP is longer and better than this in the book because I’d love to see the Order and the D.A. fighting the Death Eaters in the castle and at the grounds and of course the entire sequences at the Astronomy Tower, Hagrid’s hut and the Cave which is going to be breathtaking with all the Inferi and the mysterious environment. I really hope the scenes will surpass my expectations and I cannot wait to enjoy them on screen.Imax 3d I’m coming!

i stil hope theres an IMAX in adelaide (australia) somewhere, because whatever part they do in 3D would be amazing. I hope it’s the cave/astronomy tower scene/s. that would be so amazing.

Great news! We have a new IMAX opening nearby and I’m sooo happy they are showing HBP in IMAX 3D. I had to travel some distance to see OOTP on IMAX, but it was worth it. This time I’ll just have to go more than once!

Don’t be so excited about your new IMAX – not every one is able to show the 3D movies. You might want to inquire to the theatre to see if they will be equipped for 3D. Our local IMAX isn’t set up for 3D and I’m sorry about that, but I understand. The projectors capable of showing the 3D feature is an additional million dollars.

In a way I’m sorry that HBP will have the climax in 3D. I think the OOTP suffered because the Voldemort vs Dumbledore effects were really designed to be seen in 3D and the result in 2D doesn’t make sense. The whole thing about the glass shards and sand probably looks amazing in 3D but they aren’t elements from the battle in the book and weren’t exciting in 2D. I’d gladly given up the 3D to have the fountain statues play their part as in the book. I hope that the effects at the end of HBP are more incidentally 3D and closer to the book.

Dude…its so not worth it to see it in 3D. I remember watching order in 3D and the effects were so distracting… “OOoo…prophecy…IN THREE DEE

Those of you who dont live near an imax aren’t really missing out on much. Really.

@thegriffpuff

There’s definitely one in London, near Waterloo bridge, that’s where I went for OotP. I thought there was one in Manchester too, maybe Glasgow, Birmingham?? Not sure. There were supposed to be 12 new ones planned in 2004 but it’s hard to find a site that lists them (I’m looking as I write).

Tip: when you book tickets book seats dead centre and half way up or towards the back the auditorium. Otherwise you get a crick in your neck and go cross eyed!

Class! this means the final order vs death eaters in the castle is gonna be so cool and better be better than the whole flying around thing in OOTP. Yeah good point thegriffpuff does ANYONE know of one in the UK

Fragesteller

It seems that the IMAX theater that was at 3 Cinema Place in Adelaide, Australia has been closed down. I guess that means that the closest one is in Melbourne.
