Big News! JKR Writes New Harry Potter Prequel for Charity Auction

Hang on everyone, as there is some rather big news tonight regarding that notecard that J.K. Rowling has written for a charity auction in June. MSNBC is reporting tonight that the note card is actually “an 800-word Harry Potter prequel.” The only other information on this new material regarding the beloved Harry Potter series is that “Rowling used both sides of her card to hand-write a prequel to her seven-book Harry Potter saga.”

The report goes on to say “Organizers refused to comment on the content of Rowling’s Harry Potter prequel, but Hogwarts fans hoping for another book to add to their collection may be disappointed by her signoff.

“From the prequel I am not working on — but that was fun!’’ Rowling wrote.

Rowling has previously said she had no plans to write another Potter novel, but in December she sold a handwritten, leather-bound book of fairy tales she described as drawing on the series’ themes, for nearly $4 million at auction. The money went to The Children’s Voice, a charity Rowling co-founded in 2005.”

As a reminder, this card is part of a charity auction to be held at Waterstone’s Book seller in London, England June 10, proceeds to benefit English PEN and Dyslexia Action. As we reported previously, the card, along with ones from the 12 other authors who contributed to the charity auction, will be published in a book due on sale in August, with the cards also to be posted online JUNE 11, including this new Harry Potter prequel from J.K. Rowling. The Telegraph cites Gerry Johnson, the managing director of Waterstone’s as saying: “We never dreamed that JK Rowling would donate something so precious, and we’re incredibly grateful.” Fans unable to meet the bidding price for the prequel need not fret, however. The day after the auction, a facsimile of the story will be displayed in Waterstone’s branches and on its website. “

Update: Be sure to post your thoughts in this new poll here in our forum regarding what you hope for in this new prequel.

The best news of the year by far! I’d buy that book compilation JUST for the prequel

Ooh I can’t wait to read it! Waterstones will be the first website I visit on that day :P

I don’t really mind when it’s set, although as much as I love Harry, I’m not entirely sure how exciting his 11 years of cupboardie childhood could be.

I’d much rather hear about the Marauders :D Maybe a bit about James & Lily?

Eeee! :D

Its very dissapointing that we will never get to read it, but its cool. I wonder if its about the Maruaders, they were the coolest characters! I heart Remus Lupin!

I think it now safe to assume that J.K. Rowling is struggling with a severe case of withdrawal and is just unable to resist the alluring need to return to the Potterverse. ;)

That said, I am incredibly grateful that she is donating this card to such an admirable cause. Also, I’m even more pleased that, unlike the Tales of Beedle the Bard, the content of this card will soon be available for fans to view! This is altogether an awesome blossom with extra awesome.

I know my comment is not relevant to the topic… I just wanted to tell everybody that the deluxe edition of harry potter and the deathly hallows is available in amazon for only 16$... Its happened for the first time that the deluxe edition is priced lower than the regular Hardcover edition…seize your chance to own this valuable book at such a low cost before it goes out of stock….....

Thought all the fans out there like me would like to get your hands on that book…......

And about this card i have an idea that this might be the additional material from JK ROWLING in the special anniversary edition of the sorcerer`s stone you know prequel to HP series

I don’t know about you guys, but my stomach made a double-flip when I read about this prequel card.

Knowing that the series is finished and there is no other book to look forward to has been making me feel some withdrawal….and Oh, my God reading this article just pulled me right back into my “gimme, gimme, gimme more Harry Potter” world.

I want to buy the book and I really, really, REALLY, want an actual prequel to the series…even if it’s only the size of the other two charity books. Who knows, maybe in the far away future…like the Star Wars prequel movies.
