St. Martin-in-the-Fields, a church currently undergoing a more-than $70-million project to restore the London landmark; to help raise funds, several important British figures, including J.K. Rowling and Stephen Fry, have donated panes of glass that they have decorated themselves. J.K. Rowling’s, which is signed and decorated with a snitch, may be seen in hi-res in our gallery here.
The church is hosting a contest, the “Give Light” competition; each entry is £10. You may choose to enter for J.K. Rowling’s signed plate. Do so by going to this link. The contest ends on August 31.
Some nice entries in there, and for once, some actually eclipses JK’s. But of course Jo’s pane will be the most valuable by a long shot! I am laughing out loud at Gordon Brown entry though. Its so bland! In case you dont know, Gordon Brown is considered to be the most bland and boring UK prime minister ever and man does it show on his entry! Having said that, Clive Sinclair didnt seem to “get it” either but at least his writing is joined up and better looking. I think Joanna Lumley is the best and most artistic in the way she forms a beautiful phrase into a heart. I wouldn’t actually mind having that on my wall along with JK’s ;)
@Professor Potter: thanks for the local colour, or lack of it, regarding Gordon Brown. I agree; Joanna’s was quite creative.
Lovely! I was tickled with Sir Neville Marriner’s, who I associate with the cathedral as all one word: SNMoSMITF! Of course it’d be music on his pane.
Rowan Williams’ was insightful, but Ian Hislop’s punny comment made me LOL at work!
Also, Melissa- the first sentence of this is muddled! =)
Hmmm… Very reluctant to give money to a church but I really want to enter!
Well, if you look at it this way you get to donate to a good cause, you get a chance to enter a contest that, if you won, would be awesome and you get a cool certificate saying that you did indeed donate money. I think it’s fun. I entered. _
Awesome I hope I win, LOVE Nick Park’s aswell, the only thing though: if i win… I’d be so nervous about breaking that!
That is so cool! Congratulations Jo! And First comment!
