WB Prez' Statement to Fans: Move 'Never Intended to Upset our Harry Potter Fans'

Alan Horn, the president and chief operating officer of Warner Bros., has issued another statement about the move of the Half-Blood Prince movie to July 2009; in this statement he addresses the fans directly (as far as we know, this statement has only been sent to fan sites) and says that the decision to move the film was “not taken lightly” and “never intended to upset Harry Potter fans.” He also says, “We know you have built this series into what it is.”

The full text is below:

‘Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability. The decision to move “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support. If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between “Half-Blood Prince” and the much-anticipated first part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which opens in November 2010. So although we have to wait a little longer for “Half-Blood Prince,” the wait from that film until “Deathly Hallows” will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.’

I call BS. Plain and simple. They already admitted it was about the money so there is no use playing all nice to the fans now.

o and accept it and move on also dont take it out on twilight because they moved to an empty time cuz if they didnt i think they would have had to compete with the new james bond movie… and just because they moved it back doesnt mean it wont be good its still the same movie cuz wb doesnt direct or anything they just place the movie and do promotional stuff.

please accept it so that we can go on and enjoy the comments again i miss the happy and not the “oo im angry” comments or as i like to call it “over reacting”

While I appreciate the fact that he at least tried to make himself sound less stupid, I won’t accept any apology…..... I still feel cheated by a greedy movie machine and will only not send him my Howler if he at least has the courtesy of offering us the HBP dvd within 1-2 months after the movie’s release, everything is pushed back now, including the DVD…..HE IS A MONSTER!!!!!!!

Alan Horn has got to shut up everything he says becomes fodder for the fans. The guy would not know any apology if is bit him in the rump.

i agree… all WB cares about is money… everything he said was nonsense. they haven’t done their best to keep the movie based soley on the books.. PoA, GoF, and OoTP did not follow the books like the first 2 movies… it’s all about money with these people, they don’t care about the “integrity” of the books.. just like they haven’t “nurtured” or “protected” the movies.. they just try and figure out every way to get as much money out of the series as they possibly can… why even confirm a release date unless your 100% sure that’s the date? they knew exactly what movies are coming out this fall and next summer when they confirmed the release date…

no, you did “never intended to upset” the fans…you never thought about us at all. it was just something that came along with what you did intend to do, which is obviously more important to you: make more money. dont try to make us feel happy. you almost had me there, mister money pockets. us potter fans cannot be tricked, fudge! first treat us like dirt, then try to have dumbledore arrange meetings with us when you realize our importance! jkrowling taught us well!

L III here again.

This is just so ridiculous. The man’s already admitted it was all about the money; he can’t just attempt to cover it up like this. Unless they have a good reason – i.e. scenes that were added after initial filming – this is not going to happen. WE CAN DO SOMETHING! We could bring back Family Guy, WE CAN GET THIS PUT BACK!!

Whatever…WE GET IT. It’s just soooooo disappointing. WB should have NEVER issued the teaser trailer. It’s really ridulous. I notice that NO HP “stars” (Dan, Emma or Rupert) have issued a “statement”....I wonder what they think of all this?

I wouldnt be so upset if you told us this before releasing a teaser clearly stating the release for November.

And of course you love the HP franchise it’s what made you rich. I just hope you dont give us the movie in pictures or short 30 sec clips – thats just stupid. If you insist on making us wait then market it properly. If i wanted a movie in pictures I’d read a comic.

If you just told use the real truth I can forgive him. Right now I just want to punch him. Never mess with a good thing it can blow up in your face. The backlash can not help WB much.

ROFL. Have any of you guys seen ANYONE from the WB team at conventions? At Wizrock shows? I think not. This guy is full of bs. And if he really expects us to believe him when he says DH1 is gonna come in November 2010, this guy is reallyyyyyyyyyyyy stupid. You can not just change dates in our fandom; once it’s announced, it’s pretty much permanent unless you want a huge uproar on your hands.

L III here again.

Ashley: There’s no need to say the exact same thing five times.

And if November was such a bad release for HBP, why is DH still scheduled for that same month?

You can’t gloss over the truth, Fudge. As the third L, I am doing my best to undermine your selfish decisions by encouraging fans to rise up against you.
