Marketing for "The Tales of Beedle the Bard"

Books

As readers are aware, “The Tales of Beedle the Bard,” the new book for charity by author J.K. Rowling will be published on December 4, 2008. As we draw nearer to the release of the new companion book to the Harry Potter series, retailers have begun their marketing campaign for the book. Thanks to TLC staffer Andy, who spotted a few ads and leaflets that are appearing in the UK and sent in some new photos of the ads. You can see a new leaflet from WHSmith here, and a new bookmark from Waterstone’s here, as well as various signs as they appear in the book stores here in our image galleries. UPDATEThanks to TLC reader Sebastian, we now have a photo of a sign at Borders. We also believe here in the US and elsewhere, many retailers have begun their campaigns as well (such as Dymocks in Australia, thanks Bianca!), so if you are out and about, please send in your photos or other scans, ads and the like to staff@the-leaky-cauldron.org and we will continue to update this album as we can.

Thanks so much Andy!

Woooot! See this is why moving the movie is a good thing, because this way we’re not overwhelmed like last summer, we get a Potter event both at Christmas and in June!! Beedle is obviously not nearly as big as book 7 but because it’s the only thing happening it will get so much more attention! I can’t wait for it!

Exactly, Selina! BTW, for us “yanks”, what is a “puffin book”????

And then come September they’ll tell us they’re postponing the release by a couple years as if WB hasn’t made us suffer enough :P

They’ve been around for weeks! =P What we really want to know is will there be a midnight release?

Pre-ordered my copy at WH Smith couple of weeks ago :) Got my free puffin book as well, not really sure what the catch is with all that?! But never mind. I’m so excited. My only worry is how do I keep my receipt safe until Dec?! It’s currently in a picture frame by my bed :D

Yeah, I really want to know too, if there is a midnight sale. It would be a lot funnier to buy the book cheering with a group of fans in the streets.

Thanks! I guess I’ve just never looked. It seemed like they were some sort of special books they are offering [not Potter related] Well, I just sent off some e-mails, and look for a possible “pre-order” for my birthday! I am also getting copies for some friends of mine…younger Potter Fans, who would really love this book! Thank you, Leaky, for lettiing us know about the Advertising campaign! Put on a “happy face”, Billy! It’s not as bad as all that! :D

Ooooh yay! I can’t wait for Beedle the Bard and the 10th anniversary editon of SS too! I pre-ordered my copy of the collector’s edition from Amazon the minute I opened the e-mail from them last month announcing Beedle’s release. I didn’t pre-order the 10th anniv. edition of SS, I’m just going to get it at my local bookstore the morning it comes out. I was shocked when I was there picking up some magazines last week and decided to double check that they would have it in on Sept 23 and the girl at customer service didn’t even know anything about it until she looked it up on the computer. Still I’m excited!

Billy: The good news is that WB has nothing to do with the publication of this book – they probably don’t even have the film rights, since I doubt Beedle is covered by their existing agreements, except possibly for the Tale of the Three Brothers. Also given that three organizations are producing the books (Scholastic, Bloomsbury and Amazon), I doubt it would be easy to get the date changed anyway.
