As readers are aware, “The Tales of Beedle the Bard,” the new book for charity by author J.K. Rowling will be published on December 4, 2008. As we draw nearer to the release of the new companion book to the Harry Potter series, retailers have begun their marketing campaign for the book. Thanks to TLC staffer Andy, who spotted a few ads and leaflets that are appearing in the UK and sent in some new photos of the ads. You can see a new leaflet from WHSmith here, and a new bookmark from Waterstone’s here, as well as various signs as they appear in the book stores here in our image galleries. UPDATEThanks to TLC reader Sebastian, we now have a photo of a sign at Borders. We also believe here in the US and elsewhere, many retailers have begun their campaigns as well (such as Dymocks in Australia, thanks Bianca!), so if you are out and about, please send in your photos or other scans, ads and the like to [email protected] and we will continue to update this album as we can.

Thanks so much Andy!

Dudeee, I cannot WAIT to get my hands on this friggen book! :D The reviews from Amazon I read long ago were awesome. I can’t wait to actually READ the real thing. =)

Woooot! See this is why moving the movie is a good thing, because this way we’re not overwhelmed like last summer, we get a Potter event both at Christmas and in June!! Beedle is obviously not nearly as big as book 7 but because it’s the only thing happening it will get so much more attention! I can’t wait for it!

Avatar Image says:

Exactly, Selina! BTW, for us “yanks”, what is a “puffin book”????

Avatar Image says:

And then come September they’ll tell us they’re postponing the release by a couple years as if WB hasn’t made us suffer enough :P

Avatar Image says:

I don’t see where in the article it says puffin book, but i know that in the states it’s a publishing company. I have a few.

Avatar Image says:

We have Puffin in the states too! It’s a publishing company. I have a few of their books.

Avatar Image says:

They’ve been around for weeks! =P What we really want to know is will there be a midnight release?

Avatar Image says:

Pre-ordered my copy at WH Smith couple of weeks ago :) Got my free puffin book as well, not really sure what the catch is with all that?! But never mind. I’m so excited. My only worry is how do I keep my receipt safe until Dec?! It’s currently in a picture frame by my bed :D

Avatar Image says:

Yeah, I really want to know too, if there is a midnight sale. It would be a lot funnier to buy the book cheering with a group of fans in the streets.

Avatar Image says:

Thanks! I guess I’ve just never looked. It seemed like they were some sort of special books they are offering [not Potter related] Well, I just sent off some e-mails, and look for a possible “pre-order” for my birthday! I am also getting copies for some friends of mine…younger Potter Fans, who would really love this book! Thank you, Leaky, for lettiing us know about the Advertising campaign! Put on a “happy face”, Billy! It’s not as bad as all that! :D

Avatar Image says:

Yah! The ‘Midnight Release’ thing would be great! [More reasons for a party! LOL] Shanney, how ‘bout putting it in your copy of ‘Deathly Hallows’???

Avatar Image says:

Can we get a countdown clock please? And one for Harry, A History :)

Avatar Image says:

Ooooh yay! I can’t wait for Beedle the Bard and the 10th anniversary editon of SS too! I pre-ordered my copy of the collector’s edition from Amazon the minute I opened the e-mail from them last month announcing Beedle’s release. I didn’t pre-order the 10th anniv. edition of SS, I’m just going to get it at my local bookstore the morning it comes out. I was shocked when I was there picking up some magazines last week and decided to double check that they would have it in on Sept 23 and the girl at customer service didn’t even know anything about it until she looked it up on the computer. Still I’m excited!

I would love a midnight release! I’m thrilled for this book.

Avatar Image says:

Billy: The good news is that WB has nothing to do with the publication of this book – they probably don’t even have the film rights, since I doubt Beedle is covered by their existing agreements, except possibly for the Tale of the Three Brothers. Also given that three organizations are producing the books (Scholastic, Bloomsbury and Amazon), I doubt it would be easy to get the date changed anyway.

Just sent in a photo of a sign that I saw at a nearby Borders! Hope that it gets added!

Avatar Image says:

OMG can’t wait!!!! This is soooo much better than a hp movie any day! We don’t need them.

Avatar Image says:

EH MA GAWD!!!!! I’M SO FREAKING EXCITED!! IS THERE GUNNA BE RELEASE PARTY AT MIDNIGHT???

Avatar Image says:

I like the Australia cover sooo much better!

American is much to childish

Avatar Image says:

i tottttally like the british/australian cover better than the american one… it fits the character of the book so much better… i need to start doing some price comparisons to see if i wanna pay for international shipping…

Avatar Image says:

SO exiting!! I already ordered mine from Waterstones and dragged my friends in to order it as well! xxx

Avatar Image says:

Well I bought the collector’s edition online but I will buy a normal copy too. If there is a midnight opening, I’ll go. I think this will attract significant media coverage too, even though its not strictly a Harry Potter book. But the news media wont want to let this pass by. The pitch will be something along the lines of fans anticipating surprise new charity Harry Potter “book within a book” by JK Rowling. To think she wrote these fairytales for personal consumption and as an after-thought wrote 6 more copies of them for special people she knows. Then when fans caught on of the existence of these fairy tales, they cried because they couldnt read them! She heard the cry and so it is now published with all proceeds going to charity. Hooray for fandom power! It will be interesting to see how well these books will sell. There is a potentially bigger market too because these books can be read by the very young children (I think). But there maybe many that are not interested in reading fairytales. We’ll see but if a two page extract of a prequel that doesnt exist can sell out within hours of release…..

Avatar Image says:

yeah im copping all three editions, the american, the Australia/english and the collectors edition haha damn its good to be 18 lol

Avatar Image says:

:P To Katie and Courtneyy. Until I see the Austrailian cover [LO L] I haven’t seen it, yet…was under the impression there was only ONE. Actually, two: One for the single copy, and a different on, for the “Deluxe” edition. Either way, I can hardly wait!

Avatar Image says:

YAY!! I’m really really super duper excited for this book to be realesaed!!! xD

Avatar Image says:

When will book 7 be released in paperback? It’s been more than a year since the hardcover came out. Isn’t one year later when all the other paperbacks were released? I went to Borders last week and they said they hadn’t heard anything about the paperback release either…

Avatar Image says:

What a disappointment! The marketing is really unimaginative. Certainly eyecatching but they aren’t really trying to pull anyone but fans! I would have liked to have seen more imagery.

Avatar Image says:

OMG!!! cant wait till it comes out i pre-ordered the collectors edition i’ve never spent that much on a book before 50 pounds!!! oh well!! its soo worth it!

Avatar Image says:

I’M SOOOOO EXCITED!

I’ve ordered mine from the UK Amazon because I HAD to get the Special Edition.

However, I did see lots of big sign thingys by the entrance of my nearest Waterstones for the standared edition and I am proud to say that I got ridiculusly excited!! Lol

Oh and just a little sub-note WE DON’T NEED THE FILMS in your face WB!

Avatar Image says:

Pre-ordered the collectors edition on Amazon a couple of weeks ago. A lot of money but I thought I would regret it if I didnt and it is for charity and all. Then I thought I had better get the normal edition so I didnt spoil my special copy so pre-ordered in WHSmith yesterday and got a copy of Treasure Island, never read that before!. Still annoyed and heartbroken about HBP but at least this is something to look forward to!>

Avatar Image says:

I had my mom preorder the book the minute I heard it was being published! I just cant believe it doesnt come out until December! But I guess thats a good thing. It will helps us get through months till the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince movie comes out in the summer of ‘09(Warner Bros. fault)! I cant wait! P.S. I wonder if she will do more charity writing like writing some books from the series like Hogwarts, A History or some of the other books that Hermione read! Or if she really wanted to be adventurous the textbooks and such; that would be wicked!!!

Avatar Image says:

Seriously, do we know if there is gunna be a midnight release? that’d be ah-mazing :)
