Actor David Thewlis (Remus Lupin) attended the premiere of his new film “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” tonight in Dublin, Ireland. You can see new photos of the actor at this event here via Film Magic. “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” is based on the acclaimed novel by John Boyne and stars David Thewlis as a commandant of a Nazi concentration camp, with the trailer for the movie available for download here at Apple or viewing on the official film website. The movie, which is produced by Potter producer David Heyman, screened in Dublin, and was also a fund-raiser for Amnesty International. The IrishTimes reports that “A total of €8,750 was raised for Amnesty International Ireland through the premiere, as it was a partner organisation in the event. Over 780 guests attended and 250 of them paid €35 for tickets. Colm O’Gorman, executive director of Amnesty International Ireland, said the film should help people to recommit to the principles of human rights.”

i absolutely adore david thewlis as lupin; he’s pretty much my favorite character in the movies. so i’m thinking it would be really hard for me to watch him in this sort of role… from kind mentoring teacher to cruel nazi commander. i suppose it’s a testament to his brilliance that he can do both, but that won’t make seeing it any easier…

I glad that there is now something on him because I wanted to see if anyone else thought that Lupin had turned traitor or was an impostor in D.H.. Here were my reasons: 1) There was a loud scream at the beginning (Of course it was the wand maker, but we did not know it at the time). Then, Vol. began to talk a lot about the Malfoys and Bel. being related to a werewolf, so I thought it was Lupin in the basment. Looking at it from a literary point of view, I thought, “Why is he talking so much about Lupin? Why is Lupin on his mind, unless V. had him prisoner to get information. 2) When Lupin came to the hideout, he begged Harry to take him along “I can offer protection ect…” After Harry said that D. gave strict orders that noone but Ron and Herm. assist Harry, Lupin says something to the effect that James would have taken him along and James would have wanted him to. I immediately thought of what D. told Harry in G.O.F “I knew it was an impostor (Moody) when I gave direct orders for you to stay here, but he disobeyed those orders.” I also found it very suspecious that he would attack Harry. 3) Lupin just pops up at Charlie’s house to anounce that Tonks had given birth. I found it interesting that he leaves after he sees Harry there and says, “They will be glad to know you where here.” They who? (Yes, now I know he meant the Order). Now keep in mind that not everything is as it appears to be in the series. Also, So many times a person will pop up and leave, and Ron will ask “What was that all about” to which Herm. will explain the real reason behind it. 4). Finnaly, Mrs. Weasly orders Jenny to leave the castle, but Lupin suggest that she stay in the room. Why? If the castle is overtaken, she would be in great danger. He knew after all that Harry loved her, and why would he care that she stay. I thought that he would either reaveal that he was a tratoir and kidnap Jenny, or it would be that he was an impostor and that the real Lupin in the Malfoy’s basement, or dead. But before any explination could be given, he was dead. Now hear me out. J.K., through the series, loved to shock us with revelations. I thought that this was going to be one of those real big shockers; she said that there would be some. I thought “He seems to challenge everyone, but few challenge him.” I thought that JK was making him to be the least likly person to turn traitor and then shock us like all great authors do. I beleive that there was more to Lupin, but because J.K. rushed the book, she left it out. Anybody else out there feel that Lupin acted fisht in the last book?

I attended the premiere at the Savoy in Dublin last night, having won tickets. It was an amazing night. We were treated to some improv comedy from Ryan Tubridy and then speeches from the director, and the author of the novel. The film itself is exceptional. I’ve never seen a movie audience so engrossed and still in my life. The ending was completely devastating, but I won’t spoil it in case people haven’t read the book. Later on David Thewlis and Rupert Friend (so sexy!) came down to the front. We got to mingle with all the celebs, including David Thewlis in the lobby afterwards. He seemed really casual and down-to-earth, which was nice. It was a really special night and I was so happy to be there :)

Okay, Dflowers, I’m going to respond to that interesting theroy as best I can, and explain why it is flawed.

1.) I realize that you now know why their was a scream, but I think Voldemort was talking about Lupin to embarrass Bella, so it never crossed my mind that Remus would ever be the prisoner.

2.) Dumbledore never told Remus that he just wanted the Trio to know about it. Harry said Dumbledore did. It is very different from imposter Moody. And, Remus attacked Harry for being a smart ass.

3.) First of all, it’s Bill’s house, not Charlie’s, and Remus actually says, “They’ll all be so glad to know I’ve seen you.” He was not speaking directly to Harry either, he was adressing the whole house.

4.) Ginny, not Jenny, first of all. Remus has always been a compromising person. He gives a little for each side. It has always been what he does. Remus knows Ginny is a capable witch, but he also knows that she is too you8ng to be fighting. So, he compromises.

To close off, Remus would never betray the Order. The hatred he felt for Peter Pettigrew in PoA should be proof enough of that. Remus died for the good side, and I find it insulting that his integrity should questioned, when he outright said he died trying to make his son’s world a happier place to live in. JKR would have let us know if anything was up with that. That plotline is too big for her to ignore.

i’m with moonyschick… it makes me really sad to see anyone question lupin’s motives like that. give the guy a break…

after all the stuff we went through-becoming a werewolf as a child, undoubtedly being shunned by or hidden from society even from that age, finding 3 friends who accepted him only to lose them tragically after a few short years, believing for 12 years two of those friends were dead at the third’s hand, being feared by the masses that didn’t know the kind of person he really was, making the woman he loved shunned by society simply by marrying her, feeling responsible that another child would be forced to live the same tough life he faced-he still became a great man.

eager to help others where he could. teaching & mentoring those who would listen. spending large amounts of his life alone to protect the innocent. willing to endure great personal sacrifice if he thought it would make a difference. loyal to the end. NOT traitorous.

OK moonyschick and others First, before you criticize someone’s grammar errors, you should make sure that you do not have any. Also, it’s insulting for me to question Lupin, but it is OK for you to call Harry a smart ass? Secondly, Your missing the point. I know now why Lupin’s behavior was as such. Here was my point: JK said that the the book would be full of suprises, and all great authors know how to shock their readers. I was just woundering if anyone else felt the same as they read the book. Thirdly—On Pottercast, The staff from The Leaky Cauldron admited last year that they felt that there was something more to Lupin’s character but because the book seems rushed JK just left it out, and I quote from The Leaky Cauldron “There seemed to be more to Lupin’s character, but Harry just walks past and sees his dead body. What was up with that?”
