Deadlines

While I know that this is NOT a popular opinion amongst crafters I happen to 100% LOVE deadlines.
Take my current WIP. It’s a gorgeous stole that I’m doing for an art trade with a fan artist.
What’s that? What pattern? Okay, then, it’s the “Stola mit arabesker Borte und Mitte” pattern; or, in English, “Stole with Arabesque Edging and Middle”. I’m working it in a fingering weight yarn, rather than lace, as it will be worn in a cold area. To be precise I’m using Knit Picks Palette in Celestial (which is a shockingly pretty, deep, royal blue). I’m also using size 5 needles (Addi Turbo, for those interested!), rather than the size 9 that the pattern calls for.
Woops, sorry about that! Of course, we all know that it’s a crafter’s perogative to go off on a tangent about their current project. *wink*
Anyways, I have given myself a deadline of the 15th of October to have this thing done. Something about the pressure that this puts me under really has me moving on it! I’ve been working on it for 3 days and find myself already a third of the way through it! By the end of today I’ll be easily over the halfway point. It doesn’t hurt that I’m oh-so-in-love with the pattern, and that progressing on it is something akin to opening presents on Christmas morning, but it’s really the drive to finish on time that is keeping me motivated and able to keep at it.
Will I finish on time? Most definitely! And in the future I’ll be sure to keep a tight deadline, rather than giving myself months to finish something. It works for me, and as they say – If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
So, what do you find keeps you on track with your crafts projects? Are you a deadline fan, like me? Do you prefer keeping it free of deadlines? I want to know! Leave me a comment here, or send me an e-mail to [email protected].
Hugs & chocolate~
