Previously we told you Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had been given a 12A rating in the UK. The Parents Board of British Film Classification now has more on the reasons behind this rating. They describe several scenes which are the source including the Inferi, and the Sectumsempra fight with Malfoy. Due to slight spoilers, if you would like you can read the info here via this link.
Thanks Ryan!

You know, this is why I’m mad about the MPAA rating. :P

Based on what they described here, I cannot understand why the MPAA decided to give this film a PG rating. It certainly sounds as though it contains a lot of PG-13 material.

Ron has been saying ‘bloody’ since movie one.
The word git has been used multiple times and all it means is “A completely ignorant, childish person”
Its a moron. Whats bad about that word?
The word “tosser” and the term " off sod" in a Harry Potter film is awesome! I’m so happy. And saying " God" is not a big deal :/
I hate the MPAA

Does this mean that there might be hope of a change of rating? I at least want a director’s cut (that would be Pg 13) on the DVD.

Sorcerer’s Stone was PG. This is not Sorcerer’s Stone at all. I don’t agree with the rating at all. I own a movie house and I know we’re going to have little kids be scared.

Just read the violence bit, omg! :D So happy they seem to be keeping it like the book :D And I don’t get why people are mad at the rating, at all. OOTP and GOF were both 12a’s too I believe. You can’t exactly make it a 15.

since when is “God” considered inappropriate language?

I can’t stand people who cry over ratings. They don’t mean crap, guys. It doesn’t mean that David Yates cut out all of the violence, so there won’t be a “Director’s Cut”. WB doesn’t come up with the ratings, and I bet they were just as surprised as we were at the MPAA’s leniency.
Do you guys think that you’re so awesome because you’re older than 13? Just because the original HP fans are in their late teens, early adults now doesn’t mean that new HP fans are. There are plenty of 7-12 year-old fans, and this is great for them. You might as well be happy for them instead of complaining about a rating that won’t affect you at all.

There’s one story about the rating I want to tell. Chamber of Secrets didn’t pass the German FSK 6 rating, so Warner Bros. edited the film for the German release. Subsequently, this butchered version was released on DVD. The unedited version with German dubbing was only available in Switzerland. I’ve heard that that Swiss retailers were told by Warner Bros. not to sell the German custumers. Currently, the unedited version of Chamber of Secrets is only available on Blu-Ray in Germany. So the fear that Warner Bros. may have tempered with Half Blood Prince to get a lower rating is not unjustified.
You know, this is why I’m mad about the MPAA rating. :P
