Rumor: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in 3D?

Reports are now making their way around the internet regarding rumors that the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” films are set appear in 3D upon their theatrical release. A report originating on the Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision Blog reports that following early 3D conversion tests of the film “Clash of the Titans” by Warner Bros., the studio has decided to release “two-part “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in 3D.” This report of a 3D “Deathly Hallows” comes online despite confirmation by WB, but notes that it believes “but an announcement [regarding its 3D release] on “Titans” is expected by week’s end, and official word on the “Potter”pics surely will follow.” The blog goes on to say that “Conversion expenses have been coming down, so each film will cost just $5 million to convert into 3D.”
While this is very much an exciting possibility, until official word comes from Warner Bros., this news remains in the rumor category.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One” is set for release on November 19, 2010, while “Part Two” is will hit theaters on July 15, 2011.

Avatar ImageNumeroUnoFan says: id pay double to see itAvatar Imagebellaohbella says: i hate how everything is becoming 3DAvatar ImageLiara says: Wow, it would be great!Avatar ImageEnricoDc says: Dragon scene & Battle of Hogwarts in DH: Part 2 must be 3D!Avatar ImageWant to be a Weasley says: @Mr. Brightside: You definitely made a good point about the Nagini scene. I think it would be interesting as long as they stay true to Jo's story.Avatar ImageEeyore says: Ugh, I don't like 3-D. I chose to see Avatar NOT in 3-D. There's something about it that makes me a bit naseous if it's longer than 15 minutes. I find it distracting and pointless.Avatar ImageLittle Deatheater says: No matter what they do to it, I still am so excited to see it!!Avatar ImagePollytomat says: In any case I will watch it more than once, so it will be interesting to see it one time in 3D. And yeah, in Avatar 3D was really well made! :)Avatar ImageThio says: @Gooch said: "I don’t mind 3-D, but I prefer it not to be, but now that I think about it it would be kind of cool." Which side are you on? Looooool!!!Avatar ImagexxIBelieveInNarglesxx says: That'd be awesome, though i'm sure i'll first watch it in 2D XD.Avatar Imageccking says: ohh nooo. Everything is following a fad and becoming 3D. I really wouldn't want to see HP in 3D, I can hardly watch because of headaches. They're doing this so SAW VII, as well. and with SAW it's almost ruining the franchise before it's been released.Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: I prefer 4-D myself...Avatar Imageatarigurl05 says: 3D heck yeah but i agree with fifi ~::~ ıɟıɟ {WBM!} and i would only want to see it in 3D onceAvatar Imagerealspace says: Destination Deliberation Determination 3DAvatar ImageAll Was Well says: Hmmmm....whatever. The main thing is to finish off the series PERFECTLY. Hopefully Yates wouldn't get carried away with the 3D stuff.Avatar ImageKissa says: If they do go with 3D, I hope they do like with Avatar and release two versions so we get the 2D too. While I think 3D would be awesome, there's just something about Harry Potter and 2D. It would feel wrong after seeing all the other movies in 2D to only have a 3D version of Deathly Hallows. There's just so much talk about 3D these days. :/Avatar Imagechloewaaka says: 3D would be cool, but is it necessary? Some movies suit the whole 3D thing, whilst other's are amazing without it. But who knows, DH might be BETTER in 3D or it might be WORSE in 3D. Anyway, you can always not go to the 3D version of the movie if you don't like 3D movies.Avatar ImageKissa says: Misunderstand me right though; it would be awesome to see it in 3D too. :)Avatar ImageHPNAIV says: I've never seen a 3D movie in my life, but I'm pretty sure I will watch the last HP movies if they are going to be in 3D. And to some of you who don't like the idea... you can always choose to watch it in a regular theater :DAvatar ImageMatea says: Imagepottersocks says: ok a, its not following a fad, its following technology. and b, saw was ruined by the time they hit 3. i mean 7? really? soon there will be more saws than land before times and that's saying something. i think 3D would be pretty sick, but i'm sure they'd release 2D as well for those who get motion sickness or whatever from 3Avatar Imagelolalu says: Oh No. I hate 3-D movies. It darkens the picture and everything looks weird if you don't have really great seats.Avatar Imagestella8h8chang says: I'm not surprised! Since Avatar made so much money, I'm sure the HP crew wouldn't want to miss out. At least if they butcher the DH storyline I'll have pretty graphics to distract me so I won't notice (a la Avatar).Avatar Imagekingdomkey1121 says: I say... BAD IDEA.Avatar Imagejenbabe705 says: NOOOOO!!! I hate the 3D trend. It adds absolutely NOTHING to the movie. They're just doing it because they can charge $20 a ticket.Avatar Imagelazykitty says: Might be interesting if it's done right.Avatar Imageanamarie96 says: I wouldn't like it to be on 3D, it would be weird, i dunno, harry potter is not a 3D type of movie, but anyways i cant wait to see it :D, if they make it 3D it's ok, whatever LOL! Avatar Imagestinka says: I beginning to HATE Warner Bros!. Set the trends, don't follow them. I don't want to see the last two important films of the series cheapened with 3D. Avatar Imagefireflys_locket says: I really hope not. 3D type stuff makes me ill. ~_~; As long as there is an option to see it normally, I guess it's fine, but it just seems silly. I don't get it.Avatar Imagekellbell says: If they do 3d. I hope they do 2d to b/c I hate how there making every thing 3d now. I rather see it in 2d.Avatar ImageKami Malfoy says: It'd be awesome if we got to see Harry, Ron & Hermione break out of Gringotts flying on the back of the dragon that was guarding the high security vaults in 3D! Ugh! And imagine if Nagini's attack on Harry in Bathilda Bagshot's house is in 3D - people will probably scream in the theater.Avatar ImageNumeroUnoFan says: first!!!!Avatar ImageFifi says: Wow! It would be cool to see it in 3-D but 3-D never really does make much difference.Avatar Imageroonwit says: Given the upswing in the 3D market, they would be crazy not to film it in 3D, so I think it highly likely there will be 3D showings at some point, and probably at release time.Avatar ImageFifi says: I wish it would though...Avatar ImageMr. Brightside says: I don't see the point. The first part won't have much effects, but it would be interesting to see Nagini coming out of Bathildas head in 3-D XDDAvatar Imageele0206 says: OH MY GOD! Avatar Imageicystormz says: As long as this doesn't entail the cheesy type of 3D with random stuff poking out towards you in the attempt to, literally, shove the technology in your face. I really loved the use of 3D in Avatar because there wasn't such a heavy-handed use of the effects.Avatar Imagetaylor819 says: That would be great! I hope it doesn't detract from the story/emotions, though.Avatar ImageJane_Potter says: That would be AWESOME!!!! Avatar ImageEnricoDc says: I'm gonna watch "Clash of the Titans" first to see how this kind of 3D works. Ralph Fiennes is also on that movie so it's so exciting...Avatar Imagealicia00 says: sweet i soo want to c it on 3 - DAvatar Imagebutterbeer bottle says: I don't know how much difference it will make if movie is in 3D, It's not a huge deal for me. I'd hate it if they had everything poking out of the screen and those sort of effects. I saw Avatar in and something similar to that would be good for DH.Avatar ImageKirsikka says: No. It'll just ruin the movie, you don't need to be modern and do a 3D movie to do a good one. Also, DH will be a long movie, and using those glasses for so long will only harm your vision and give you a headache. Avatar Imagenewwmoon says: cool :DAvatar ImageGooch says: I don't mind 3-D, but I prefer it not to be, but now that I think about it it would be kind of cool.Avatar ImageRoseLane says: YES. This would definitely make me go see it in theatres. Usually I'm patient enough to wait until it comes out. Yesyesyes!Avatar ImageYodatheHobbit says: AH! Such limited memory. Have people forgotten that HBP and OOTP were also in 3-D? The HBP the first ten minutes, and with OOTP the battle with Voldemort. Only those two individual parts were in 3-D so of course Deathly Hallows is going to have parts or at least, a part, in 3-D, and ALL IT NEEDS in order to appear as 3-D on a movie list is to have at least one scene in 3-D. Even if it is completely in 3-D it will be shown in 2-D as well so there is no need to fret over the matter. Avatar Imagegryffindor1991 says: HOLY CRAP!!!!!! that would be sooooo awesome!! :) i hope it turns out to be true!!Avatar ImageThio says: I also find that things poking out of the screen isn't that fun. It distracts us from the actual movie. Avatar was great precisely because of its intelligent use of 3D. But they are not going to have things poking out of the screen on Deathly Hallows. The movie is going to be converted to 3D in pos-production. They didn't film it in 3D from the start, which means they idealized it as a 2D movie. It would be stupid to have things poking at us in a 2D movie. So don't worry about that. I think it is awesome. Too bad that converting movies to 3D doesn't deliver quite the same experience as recording it in 3D from the start... but it will be fun nevertheless.Avatar ImageLauraKeaton says: OMG. How awesome would that be. I'd totally drive the two hours it takes to get to a 3D theater. I want to feel like there are really curses flying at me!Avatar Imageluna.quibbler says: ooooooooooooooooooooooooooh that would be so cool!! i saw HP 6 in 3D, just the first bit, at the imax cinema and it was JO-MAZING!!Avatar Imagecheeserpleaser says: I am not surprised that they are contemplating doing this and, after seeing Avatar, I believe that using 3D does not necessarily mean that the use of these technologies will prove detrimental to the quality of one's cinematic experience. Quite frankly, 3D could truly enhance and enrich many of the scenes in the story, such as the Seven Potters, the fight at Gringotts, and more.Avatar Imagespiritbound says: omg i soooooo want it to be in 3D :D that would be genius !Avatar Imagephoenixes are in ravenclaw says: If they do, it will probably be released like HBP two weeks later. I would sooo go see it. It would be awesome for my first 3D movie in theaters to be HP!!!1Avatar ImageHorcruxalej says: it seems natural that they would have it in 3D most movies now days are except chick ficks and stuff cuz who would care if they were in 3D.. but a 3D harry potter experience would be awesome!!!Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar ImageHydrus says: Avatar was shot with very special cameras that brought 3-D to a completely new level. 3-D conversion is more 'last generation', from what I read. Even so, I'm pretty sure the last generation technique was used on all of those trailers that they had in front of Avatar, and they looked pretty cool, particularly Alice In Wonderland. Too bad they couldn't have brought Cameron (or his cameras) in to help, but from what I hear he's busy. : / Either way, I would like to see Deathly Hallows in 3-D.Avatar Imagejfrancis04 says: This would be pretty freaking awesome. The spells would look amazing in 3D.Avatar Imagedaharja says: Ah I don't want it in 3d! Maybe it would be fun seeing that the second time around, but I don't want anything to interfere with the story the first time I see it! I don't want gimmicks, I want Potter!Avatar Imageicystormz says: @ Kirk: Great point! You're right; the scene at Gringotts would be fantastic in 3D. Can you imagine the dragon?? And the trio as they fight their way out of the burning galleons? I swoon at the thought of it :D.Avatar Imagemaimiaa says: hmm. interesting.Avatar Imageharrypotterfreak101 says: I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO WATCH DEATHLY HALLOWS IN 3-D!!! MY DREAMS HAVE FINALLY COME TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar ImageCatherine says: that would be so awesome if they made it as good as avatar!!!!!!!!!!Avatar ImageCarmenNightshadow says: Awesome! I'd love to see it in 3D! :)Avatar ImageDylanAqua says: NO, ENOUGH with the 3D already!Avatar Imagekatherine102678 says: If it is in 3D that would be totally awesome!!Avatar Imagemovielover134 says: As long as the 3d is used like avatar and not used as a gimmick then I'm really happy. But it is stating to be annoying that everything is in 3d.Avatar ImageCrazy4Neville says: whether it's 3D or not it doesnt matter to me :) but frick just imagine that battle at the end in 3d! that will be epic!!!! the other parts, i dont care if they are just 2D . omg i am so excited for DH but the release is so far away.... WHYYYYYY. :(Avatar Imagemollywobble says: YodatheHobbit, is right. Scenes from the past two films have been in 3-D, so I'm not surprised they would do it again. The question is whether or not the whole film will be converted (and the same can be asked for Clash of the Titans). I hope that only parts of the film will be in 3-D. In fact, I'm only interested in seeing the battle in 3-D. Avatar Imagepotterfan4lyfe says: hmmm i think 3D would be pretty cool i have to watch Part 2 in 3D but not so sure part 1 seeing it doesnt really have anything kool to pop out either way im still watching it!Avatar Imagesueml says: Uggg - If they do it in 3D I hope the option is there to see it in 2D. I'm a bit tired of everything being 3d now. I don't think it's necessarily "awesome." Animated films, like Avatar are pretty good in 3D, but no matter how good they think the technology looks - the live action parts don't seem as rich or real to me. Perhaps it's the way I see things. I'm actually one of the many who happen to have nausea problems with 3D - I don't want this movie ruined for me!Avatar ImageDiamondWings says: interesting...Avatar Imagears98 says: I don't know...I don't really like 3D because it hurts my eyes and it's hard for me to see(I wear regular eyeglasses), but HP in 3D might be cool...of course, it is currently just a rumor, we'll have to wait and see!Avatar Imagehpfangirl97 says: i dont know if i like it in 3D or not i hope they have both 2D and 3DAvatar Imagesessionka says: 3-D is the new gimmick. It was great for Avatar. I still have my 3-D glasses from that movie,so I refuse to pay more to see it in 3-D. Avatar ImageHermione Elizabeth says: I would totally love to see it in 3D but I know some people don't like 3D. So I agree with some you saying that I hope they also release it in 2D cause they will actually make more money that way in a sense. If they only release it in 3D some people won't see it and just wait until they can buy or rent it.Avatar Imagewizardinventor says: I saw HBP in IMAX 3D (the first 12 minutes) and the opening sequence with the Death Eaters was awesome! I would defenitely love to see DH the same way. (all of it this time)Avatar ImageLoveTomRiddle says: OMG! That would be so cool!!!! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 3D! I'd watch it in 2D and 3D!!!!! SO COOL!!!!Avatar ImagetheREALGinnyWeasley says: ahhh that would be amazing....but if they do it in 3D they should also do 2D also like avatar...give us a choice....but still that would be totally awesome!Avatar ImageLoveTomRiddle says: In my country, they release movies like avatar in BOTH 3D and 2D, but then when I was watching Ava(sucks)tar, I got really dizzy :/Avatar Imageclever-ravenclaw says: i cant fliipin wait for it to come out i have like a countdown sheet and i always see if there are tickets on sale (im obsessed) =P Avatar ImageNumeroUnoFan says: im just stoked because i took my own real D 3D glasses from the theater i used to work at so i dont have to pay the extra "3D fee" that covers the glassesAvatar Imagestregs12 says: i'm not sure. i mean i saw avatar in 3D and thought it was awesome so i bet harry in 3D should be the same. butAvatar Imagepotterforpresident says: We've seen the last two Harry Potter movies on IMAX, 4D, which is even better than 3D, so... is this supposed to be a big deal? But I just want to see the movies however they choose to release it. :))Avatar Imagelunaisawesome says: if making it 3d makes it take longer to come out i will kill them and im not kidding every single last one of them i will BURN THEM!!!Avatar ImageHarryJamesPotterROCKS says: That sounds so cool!Avatar ImageDeliaDee says: The cost to the studio is going down. Would the cost to the consumer go down as well? Doubtful. In my humble opinion, 3D is over-rated and over-hyped. I would rather have a really good story (despite Kloves' "scriptwriting") than an entire movie in 3D. It's really just another way to make the story less important than the effects and it cheapens the art of movie-making.Avatar Imagereadhp1008 says: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! WARNER BROS. WHY HAVE YOU BETRAYED US?!?Avatar ImageKami Malfoy says: Well, I think Deathly Hallows is going to be epic either way, but some scenes like the 7 Potters, Slytherin's locket, and the battle of Hogwarts would be even more thrilling in 3D.Avatar ImageNot Slytherin says: 3D gives me a really, really bad headache -- so, I'm excited and kind of mad at the same time. I will just have to suck it up and take a Dramamine, I guess, because I won't miss my Harry!Avatar ImageBella Longbottom says: That would be really, really cool! But I'm sure they'll do it in 2D as well, considering not all theatres can provide film in 3D yet. Avatar ImageScully931 says: Ugh. Already tired of the 3-D bandwagon. Gives me a headache and is difficult to watch. Avatar Imagekisoiscute says: omgAvatar Imagekisoiscute says: this is awsomeAvatar Imagekisoiscute says: this is awsomeAvatar Imagekisoiscute says: hooray for harry potterAvatar Imagekisoiscute says: hey do i rit to muchAvatar Imageshellybasson says:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Avatar Imagetaoist1 says: I wonder if they are trying the 3-D because the movie isn't good. Trying to make up for bad directing by giving us the visual distraction. Hope not.Avatar Imageluna92 says: awesome if it's in 3D!!!Avatar Imagedeadtree says: ...sweeeeeet!Avatar Imagestarwarshippie says: I hate 3D movies!!!!!....please, please, please don't only be in 3DAvatar ImageToNkS_rip says: OMG THATS GONNA B SOOOO COOOL!!!!!!!!! ill pay everything i hav 2 c itAvatar ImageGryffindorGarstang says: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO 3D KILLS EVERYTHING!! just saying :PAvatar ImageTCunnings says: Ugh, leave it like the others its better that way.Avatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: That is so cool. i can't wait to see it now.Avatar ImageSeveraSphyrna says: Speaking as someone who suffered through the last 3D revival and is barely making it through the current one, I have to say that live-action 3D has a major flaw: scenes end up being shot a certain way because of the 3D rather than the plot, characters, or mood, which results in pointless setpieces and dopey scare shots that only work to amp up the silly-factor and date the movie in the long run (especially when you view what was originally a 3D film on DVD years later...terrible...). 3D is great for building purely-animated worlds (e.g. Coraline and Avatar) or for IMAX movies that dip into non-human realms (e.g. Under the Sea and Wild Ocean), but it's just plain silly when human characters are the driving force of the experience.Avatar ImageBara says: It could make things interesting to watch. I just hope it doesn't subtract for the story itself.Avatar Imagecalliet2b4g says: it would be soooooooo cool if they released it in 3D saw Avatar in 3D on tuesday and loved it!Avatar ImageHagrid 713 says: cool beans!Avatar Imageliv-wa says: I don't think i would want to see it in 3D at first. Sometimes, when stuff is in 3D, you can only think OH WOW! LOOK THAT'S IN 3D. And I want to actually focus on the movie.Avatar Imageclintisagain says: Imagine the spells in 3D!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!Avatar Imageronlvr44 says: I dont like 3D movies.. They give me head aches.. and i cant picture Harry Potter in 3D.. i dont like it.. :/Avatar Imagelostielover says: nooo...3D is so painful on my eyes...I really hope they do 2D too...Avatar Imageleigia says: Still don't understand all the hoopla about 3D. Big deal...just because of technology allowing it to happen, doesn't mean that every movie should be 3D.Avatar Imagejeannemcl says: No...thank you. Avatar Imageda_member0808 says: Ehh not so sure about the 3-D... but I'm still excited for the movie :DAvatar Imagepotterball says: well wb did make it offical today, clash of the titans and both parts of deathly hallows will be in 3-dAvatar Imagekisoiscute says: omgAvatar Imagekisoiscute says: i hope they make it in 3d and regularAvatar Imagekisoiscute says: cause i dont wasnt dragon heat all over my face thank u very muchAvatar ImageCatdelaCreme says: Wow. that would be unbelievably awesome. I would like to have it on 2d for the dvd as well.Avatar ImageBara says: I can't remember if I commented on this or not? (Oh, how sad it is when the memory fades....) At any rate, I don't think it will be an overly terrible thing so long as the effect does not impare the story. It would be a shame if the final chapter focused more on the effects & less on the text when it needs an equal balance of both.Avatar ImageJillxoxo says: If WB and/or Yates is seriously planning this 3D business for DH, it only further proves that they just don't get it. They don't appreciate what they have, and what they have is an instant classic, a great story with great characters inhabited by great actors. The film doesn't need gimmicks. It just needs to tell the story properly and completely.Avatar ImageBethWitchWizard says: Noooooooo!!! Not 3D!!!! It wouldn't match the other films and anyway, they're already awesome enough without another cinema fad on top of them!!Avatar Imagehpfanaticfan2011 says: personally I think 3D would be a waste...but Yahoo already has up on its news that the films ARE going to be in 3D...did they hear something else? or are they just making assumptionsAvatar ImageKami Malfoy says: I'm not worried that the 3D effects will detract from the exciting story that takes place in Deathly Hallows. I'm sure both films will be thrilling and huge hits at the box office.Avatar ImageForever Weasleys says: Yeah, I'm kinda hoping that its not in 3D, I saw avatar and it kinda made me feel a little nauseous. And for like 15 minutes afterward I was seeing double. It just tripped my mind and I don't think it works as well for us nearsighted people. I think if they just release it in 2D and 3D it would make a lot of people happy. Avatar Imagehermy007 says: SWEET!!Avatar ImageBoyWithALightningScar says: I don't know how I feel about this... I really hope that if it's true, they don't focus primarily on 3-D effects. We want the story told, not a visual gimmick!Avatar ImageProfessor Witchard says: That would be one HECK of a movie!Avatar ImageTheHeirOfSlytherin2 says: I'm not really a big fan of 3-D movies. The color is all messed up, and it generally all looks wierd. I like to wear my glasses during movies in case my contacts get buggy, and it would be kind of.. erm... awkward to have both pairs of glasses on at once. (3-D and normal)Avatar ImageLoonyMaddie3 says: I heard that from my dad... 3-D gives me headaches, but it'll be worth it completely!!!Avatar ImageLoonyMaddie3 says: I heard that from my dad... 3-D gives me headaches, but it'll be worth it completely!!!Avatar Imagenutela17 says: that would be great Avatar ImageHPandtheDA007 says: I feel i would first have to see it as 2-D, and then go see it as 3-D. the problem with seeing it as 3-D first is that one feels too pulled in by the "3-Dness" that they don't get to overall enjoy the movie! as long as harry potter kicks avatars butt i'm happy no matter whatAvatar ImageAsi says: PLEASE NO we have no 3D cinema in Armenia if you're going to do it so than do two versions PLEASE(like Avatar) so I can see it too , I got worried :-(Avatar ImageKami Malfoy says: Either way, 3D or not, Nov. can't get here soon enough!Avatar Imagecoada says: I am so excited about this movie being in 3D, so many poeple are blogging about it!!! Even me ImageSmonocco says: I'm not against it as long as they have a 2-D version as well. I've heard The Hobbit is going to be 3-D as well
