IMAX's website has revealed that "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" will 147 minutes (or 2 hours and 27 minutes) long. This makes it six minutes shorter than the last Harry Potter film that came out, "Half-Blood Prince."
"Deathly Hallows: Part 1" will be released on November 19th.
I am SO sick of Yates bullsh!t “absolutely no longer than 2 1/2 hours” rule that’s he’s been yammering about since he made OOTP the longest book in the entire series into the shortest film! He needs to get over it because people sat through Titanic, Avatar, and all of the LOTR movies despite all of those being well over 2 1/2 hours! Those directors weren’t afraid to make films that were 3 hours or more in order to get the story done right and all of those films won Oscars and excelled brilliantly at the box office as well! Maybe Yates should ask himself why his adaptations have never even been nominated for any of the big awards? The potential for winning big time awards has always been there with HP, but he throws out all of that potential because he’s so much more concerned about run times than the integrity of the actual story! His refusal to even consider making a 3 hour film despite adapting stories that absolutely merit a 3 hour run time is so beyond friggin ridiculous and its the main reason so many of our favorite scenes from OOTP and HBP weren’t included. Now its looking like he’s taken a butcher knife to my favorite book DH too? I was desperately hoping that with DH split into two films I would finally get to see a HP book done accurately on screen because IMO he didn’t do OOTP or HBP justice at all. GOF was the last HP movie I felt was satisfactory in the sense that despite missing quite a few scenes from the book it at least managed to keep almost the exact same feel and magic of the book. OOTP and HBP didn’t feel at all like the stories I’ve read, but I really hoped Yates would turn it around with DH. Its HP so no matter what I’ll love it and watch it a million times, but I’m still sad to think that yet again I might end up with a film that just feels nothing like the book its based on. I’ll still try to keep an open mind and reserve judgement until the midnight screening.
I just can’t get over the fact that he completely removed the amazing scene of Kreacher telling the trio about Regulus and his complete change of attitude towards Harry! Kreacher’s storyline was one of my favorites in the entire series because his character and progression was so extremely well developed by Jo despite maybe not being one of the most central characters. Two of my favorite scenes ever are Kreacher hitting Mudungus with the frying pan saying “Perhaps one more for luck, Master Harry?” and his battle cry of “Fight! Fight for my master, defender of houseelves! Fight the Dark Lord in the name of brave Regulus! FIGHT!” as he bursts from the kitchens wearing the locket Harry gave him and leading the houseelves of Hogwarts into battle! They’re brilliant scenes and if the scene of him leading the houseelves into battle in Part 2 is also left out I will seriously lose it! Kreacher is just such a great character and proves what a dramatic impact the way that we treat other people can have on their entire personality.
I can’t wait for this movie to come out!! :D
But, hang on- since, it’s the last one, should it be a little longer?? Though it seems good to me, as long as they don’t omit important scenes though… :D
