Reports have come online regarding the choice of composer for the second part of the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” film. is spotted a curious note in the “Deathly Hallows” website which seems to reveal that Alexandre Desplat will stay on board for the second film, and compose the “Deathly Hallows: Part II” soundtrack. The site notes:

Warner Bros. has yet to officially announce the composer for Part 2, but the official Deathly Hallows website mentions on Desplat’s bio page that he “next starts work on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ’ Part 2, the conclusion of the Harry Potter franchise.”

While this is an interesting note indeed, we have yet to recieve official word on whether Mr. Desplat will compose “DH: II” from WB. Stay close to Leaky for the latest.
Thanks to MN for the heads up!

Avatar ImageMaryMalfoy says: Damn. I wanted John Williams to come back D:Avatar Imagecrikeyhunter says: what happened to John Williams!?!?!? Very disappointing :(Avatar Imageiampadfoot1 says: My worst fears have just been realized. God I wanted John Williams back terribly. Epic fail! Apologies to AD fans but Desplat just doesn't have the audacity to write memorable and captivating themes and scores like say John Williams or Hans Zimmer. He physically can't do it, and it would have been great to see Williams finish the series he started. Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 is such an important film and it needs a veteran composer who can carry the scenes in an epic and legendary way and Desplat is not that person. There is no better composer to score part 2 than Williams, bottom line.Avatar Imagegryffindor1991 says: hes ok, but i really wanted john williams to come back :'(Avatar ImagePotterParish says: this is all speculation...I will wait until 2011 to know who the heck is composing this dang movie.Avatar ImageMrPlinkett says: Sad day for film music :( I really hoped John Williams would complete it. Did anyone else hear 'Leaving Hogwarts' when they read the epilogue? With Desplat it's going to be some dull filler rather than an emotional piece. :( Sigh :( Avatar Imageiampadfoot1 says: ImagechrisbDTM says: its a shame john williams didnt come back for the endAvatar ImageHermione_Granger_Weasley says: If John Williams doesn't come back, the movie will not be to its fullest. And that is what everyone has said it will be. Every single actor gave their best to this film, and if the composer can't do that as well, then the actors' work will all go down the drain. It won't have been worth all their effort and sweat that they put into the movie if the music for it isn't spectacular. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the epic end to a francise that has gone on for well over a decade. Without the correct and amazing ending it deserves it will not end the series positively. Desplat is an okay composer, but he will never reach the level that John Williams has, ever.Avatar Imagebellatrix15101 says: I thought that John Williams was confirmed a couple months ago! This is strange! I'm kinda hoping this rumor is wrong to be honest, just for the sake of having a full circle, with Williams beginning and ending the series. @MrPlinkett, I too heard teh "Leaving Hogwarts" song when reading the epilogue. I think that may be one of the biggest reasons I want John Williams to do part 2. Just so we can have that wonderful sense of closure, having the same music playing as Harry's kids ride off on the Hogwarts Express as when he himself rode off on it at the end of his 1st year.Avatar Imagemaimiaa says: sigh. although desplat is a great composer, i really wanted JW to do it.Avatar ImagePhlegm De La Coeur says: After a quick google search I think we thought John Williams was back because it was reported by WB Brazil but it was not actually confirmed that JW is back. (Sept 2010) JW also said if it fit his schedule he'd want to be back. (Sept 2009) I hope he's back for DH2...i think i'd help give me closure!!Avatar ImageHermione Elizabeth says: I was wondering how this was going to play out. Even though I really want John Williams to finish what he started, it was going to seem weird to have two composers do music for Deathly Hallows. I mean, if they did have John do the second part then the two wouldn't really connect like they should. Even though it is a 2 part film, it is basically the same movie. Desplat's work is nice, but John Williams started it all so I think he should finish it. We will see how things play out I guess...Avatar ImageMaryMalfoy says: I'm waiting until 2011 to know for sure. But I'll be very disappointed if John Williams isn't scoring. The movie won't be as good as it could be, in my mind, without him. Avatar ImageJillxoxo says: Noooooooooo!!!!! It has to be John Williams, it just has to be! If Williams isn't available, Patrick Doyle (GOF) would be okay, but truly, it should be John Williams. This is a huge emotional ending and it deserves the kind of rich musical swell that Williams does so masterfully! No offense to Desplat, but I was unimpressed with the DH1 track samples at Amazon.Avatar Imageharrypotterchic02 says: NO!!! What happened to John Williams? He has to come back and do the score, otherwise I will be very disappointed. Personally, I think he should have done the whole series, because the other scores have not lived up to the standard that Williams set with the first three. Please, please John come back! @MrPlinkett I agree, that was definitely in mind when I read the ending. *lots of tears* P.S. you have to love the picture of Hermione, it looks as if she's horrified to hear that Desplat is doing the score for Part IIAvatar ImageBless_the_children says: I'm dissapointed, but I think most of my satisfaction during this movie will hinge on their treatment of the character deaths and the final battle between Harry and Voldemort rather than the music. Still, it's sad. It would have been one more layer of awesome. I hope we hear "Hedwig's theme" though, that is my favorite part of the score from all the movies.Avatar Imagebrattyc says: I don' t know why people keep saying Desplat doing the soundtrack for DH2 is a rumor...the WB has it on it's own site. His music for this movie is amazing and I'm sure he'll do the same for the final part. You should hear the complete soundtrack, not just the samples before passing judgment. Avatar Imageazaadpotter says: Hes okAvatar ImageNicole says: Exactly... What happened to John Williams???!Avatar Imagekatielilly says: I wanted John Williams!!Avatar ImageSindi says: Oh NOOO!!! I mean he isnt bad, hes really good, but i was looking forward to John Williams scoring the final movie... :\ Dang, lets hope there is a mistake... Avatar Imageda_member0808 says: Noooo!!!! I'm sure Desplat is a wonderful composer but I wanted John Williams for Part II. I think it would be an amazing way to end the series. To me, the samples from the soundtrack of Part I didn't sound very Harry Potter-ish... I dunno, maybe it was just me. Avatar ImageHagrid 713 says: I also thought Williams had signed on - bummerAvatar Imagemoglet says: I was lucky enough to see the film yesterday, and the music was absolutely perfect for it, as brattyc says you really can't pass judgment when you haven't heard it all. The actors' performances were brilliant, the film had all the elements it should, humerous, scary, tense, unsettling, moving and heartbreaking, just look forward to the films.Avatar Imagehousemusicbori says: we want back williams! : (Avatar ImageClaireElizabeth says: Noooo! John Williams needs to come back!Avatar ImageSlytherin Princess101 says: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! *starts crying* WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO US??????????????? WE WANT JOHN WILLIAMS!!!!!!!!!!! I know you have heard it from millions of HP fans by now and U have been one of them before but here it goes again; WARNER BROTHERS YOU SUCK AND WE HATE YOU!!!!!Avatar ImageSlytherin Princess101 says: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO US??????? WE WANT JOHN WILLIAMS!!!!!!!!!!! I know you have heard it from millions of HP fans by now and I have been one of them before but here it goes again; WARNER BROTHERS YOU SUCK AND WE HATE YOU!!!!!Avatar Imagehonigmuffin says: I guess I'll just wait for official WB news =/Avatar ImageAgrippa1 says: I'd so been hoping for John Williams!! Let's just hope Desplat's music will be touched by the magic of Hogwarts.Avatar ImageGellewald says: I'VE HEARD THE SOUNDTRACK ALREADY...IT'S HORRIBLE !!!! NO PLEASE NO, NOT ALEXANDRE DESPLAT AGAIN...THAT MUSIC IS AWFUL. THE BEST CHOICE COULD BE JOHN WILLIAMS (Only intro music and ending music) AND THE WHOLE SOUNDTRACK TRACKS NICHOLAS HOOPER !!!! PLEASE, LET HOOPER TO DO THE FINAL SOUNDTRACK....BUT NOT DESPLAT, PLEASE DON'T !!! I HAVE MANY MANY FRIENDS AND THEY'RE SAYING THE SAME, DESPLAT'S SOUNDTRACK IS HORRIBLE !!!Avatar Imagespikester93 says: EPIC FAIL. I so wanted John Williams to come back and finish the series with a bang, just as he did when he started the series. I like Alexandre Desplat but he doesn't really convey the Harry Potter theme in his music. I've listened to the part I soundtrack, and most of it doesn't even go with the film and doesn't have one bit of a Harry Potter feel to it. He definitely took on a new character when composing this soundtrack, and I don't think he should do the second because it's not really a Harry Potter soundtrack :/Avatar ImageGrimthresgo says: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAvatar ImageHasrionaOrganisation says: fantasitc composer, fantastic finale. what more can any of us want?Avatar ImageHasrionaOrganisation says: I mean, the music Alexandre Desplat has composed is absolutely fantastic! His music is so rich in melody and emotion, especially "Snape to Malfoy Manor" - that's the best Harry Potter music I've ever heard. I'm so glad he's coming back, not that William's wasn;t good, because Williams's was brilliant too, but Desplat's music is more for these two, more macabre films.Avatar ImageHasrionaOrganisation says: I mean, the music Alexandre Desplat has composed is absolutely fantastic! I LOOOOOVE HIM! OH! THIS IS JUST WHAT I WANTED! You know, John is a really composer, but he wouldn't be good for DH at all! But Alexandre NEVER disappoints! *does dance*Avatar ImageMaxtina Potter says: WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM GUYS?! The ONLY good tracks John Williams composed for HP were Hedwig's Theme, Harry's Wondrous World and Window to the Past. Yes. HP's theme is wonderful, but come on! Alexandre Desplat's themes for DH I are WONDERFUL too! He's a FANTASTIC composer! Think up some logic guys! I mean, come on! Alex is much better for DH. John's DARK themes aren't really DARK, they're just magical. Alex's tracks are sad, dark AND magical! SO glad he's gonna compose DH II as well!Avatar ImageScipio Greengrass says: I never assumed JW would be back, so I can't say I'm disappointed (I guess I missed the whole WB Brazil thing). I just figured he was done with Harry Potter.Avatar Imagerdpalmer says: Many respects to Mr. Desplat, but I've heard the entire score and I'm stunned by how much of it is generic action/adventure music. There are no recognizable motifs, and no attention paid to the fact that there are six whole soundtracks of material before this. He's not working in a vacuum. Like I said, the bland quality of it is very disappointing.Avatar Imagewashcap22 says: I think it's a shame they didn't use the composer of the Goblet of Fire soundtrack Patrick Doyle. I like his score a lot. The Story Continues has been my Ringtone for several years Avatar Imagebella vita says: Did you guys over at WB hear that sound? Its the sound of every single Harry Potter fan's heart breaking! This is AWFUL! WE WANT WILLIAMS! MAKE IT WORK WB! No one else can truly bring this series to a satisfying end! Without Williams there will be a huge sense of incompleteness! In order for many of us to have any real closure we need Williams to finish what he started. To have someone else finish the series is practically blasphemous! This news makes me feel like crying. When I leave that theater after my very last midnight screening ever it has to be to the sound of something just as EPIC and iconic as the original Hedwig's Theme and ONLY John Williams can give us that! Ending the series without him just feels all wrong in every possible way! WB PLEASE FIX THIS! This just can't be happening!Avatar Imagebella vita says: @ Washcap22: I too really enjoyed Patrick Doyle's GOF score although I think we're in the minority! In fact it was the last HP score that actually sounded like it was definitively HP to me, you know what I mean? Doyle's score was much more in sync with the previous three scores whereas Hooper's have felt so drastically different that it felt like they were from a different movie/series entirely. Desplat's scores aren't memorable in the slightest and never incorporate anything from any of the series' previous scores! He did the same thing with New Moon! He flat out refused to even listen to Carter Burwell's brilliant and highly memorable Twilight score before composing his score for the sequel so he simply did whatever he wanted and it didn't fit the movie at all! Don't get me wrong, Desplat makes absolutely beautiful music, but its all very generic and instantly forgotten as soon as you leave the theater! Plus if I don't hear anything that's instantly recognizable as Hedwig's Theme even if its a different version in Part 2 I will totally lose it! DH Part 2 deserves SO much better and so do we as fans! This is just completely unacceptable and unforgivable!Avatar ImageShinyPineapple says: FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHWQKJEDKJSA EDIOWQU That's how i feel right now. I thought JOHN WILLIAMS WAS COMING BACK! DANGIT!!! I FREAKING GOT THE NEWS ON MY BDAY THAT HE WAS COMING BACK NOW ......grrrrrrr....... I will find the idiot who decides this and WRING HIS NECK. Avatar ImageHermione_Granger_Weasley says: I wish that there was some way that all of us could show Warners Brothers how we feel about the composer. At least then they might think twice before automatically chooseing Desplat. John Williams has to end it, because it he began it, it has to go that full circle, the music has changed from composer to composer, but it has always kept the same few "themes" that have played at some of the major/ important/ touching moments, Deathly Hallows just won't be a "Potter" film without those themes. And I regret that. Avatar ImageMrPlinkett says: Some hopeful news! Ain't It Cool News just posted this interview with Alexandre Desplat. Him scoring Part 2 is just a rumor, and even HE mentions JOHN WILLIAMS: K: Are you scoring DEATHLY HOLLOWS, PART 2? Have you been asked? AD: There’s a rumor that I would write it, yes. That’s the rumor… SK: So it’s not official yet? AD: I think you’ve heard the rumor too. [Both Laugh] AD: With rumors, you never know. There was a rumor that John Williams will finish it. Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: Aw :( I was kinda hoping for John Williams but I am sure Desplat is good!Avatar ImageWeenyOwl says: Add me to the list of those diehard fans clamoring for John Williams' return. We will not have proper closure without his iconic themes.
