“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ is on track to break several box office records this weekend, and according to Variety, it already has a major one under its belt.

The eighth and final Harry Potter film grossed $43.5 million in midnight screening sales in just the U.S. last night in more than 3,800 locations. This makes it the highest grossing midnight release, beating the previous record-holder “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”

“What an incredible beginning for the movie that ends it all,” said
Warner domestic distribution prexy Dan Fellman. “Everyone at Warner
Bros. joins me in congratulating the many people behind the ‘Harry
Potter’ films. We know this is just the start of what promises to be an
astounding weekend and a magical summer.”

Internationally, “Part 2″ has grossed $82.5 million in just two days and also broke IMAX records for a midnight screening with sales of $2 million.

Avatar Imagekbicprez says: That's great news although not really surprising. HP fans are the BEST! I won't get to see it until next weekend. I'm hoping to avoid spoilers until then...not likely.Avatar Image1HarryPotterFan123 says: Awesome!!! Great job HP fans!!! Just one question... how come the countdown says there is still 1 day, 7 hours and 44 minutes left till DH2???Avatar ImageSmitch says: Awesome! Although it is 'the end', I feel so much excitement in the air with Pottermore. I think we should start saying 'it's a new beginning' for the fandom! Avatar ImageDancyFeet says: That's AMAZING!!Avatar Imageweasleywannabe1997 says: It was fabulous! And I am listening to LeakyCon radio on Sirius/XM today, so the ending does indeed seem to lead to a beginning!!! Avatar Imageweeklyvolcano says: We snapped photos at a midnight screening: http://www.weeklyvolcano.com/entertainment/spew-blog/2011/07/Aint-no-party-like-a-Harry-Potter-party-cuz-a-Harry-Potter-party-dont-stop/Avatar ImageRadiance says: This is so awesome - although not unexpected at all. I love it when you see so many HP fans out in force! ...And it makes it a bit sweeter that we took the crown back from Twilight. (;Avatar ImageElwood J. Blues says: Anybody surprised! It was amazing. The best time of my life. I agree with @Smitch even though this is "the end" we shouldn't feel bad. Pottermore was made for us. It's going to be spectacular. The fandom will never die.Avatar ImageVane-Ale says: Geez... we are making everyone at WB very very rich! We are very faithful fans, you know... they should issue a massive THANK YOU press release or something... ha ha ha ha ha haAvatar ImageWON_TWO says: GOOD! We beat the sparkly #%^&^*@s!!!Avatar ImageLunaLuver says: Yeah baby!! Take that Twilight, you cant beat the greatness that is Harr Potter! XDAvatar ImageLivi22 says: We did it! And we beat those sparkly idiots! Wee hee! Yay for Harry!Avatar Imageentoptic says: By November, movie ticket prices will be $14 (2D), and Twilight will beat all DH2 records.Avatar Imagevicki_the_house_elf says: Yay! I went to a midnight show last night, my first and last one :( I was dressed as Hermione and my mum was a Hufflepuff student. We saw two people dressed as bellatrix lestrange and lucius malfoy buying popcorn, I wanted to go over to them to congratulate them on being epic human beings! :DAvatar Imagepaskunia says: I saw it for 8 bucksUS in North Jersey, in a theatre that had (maybe) 50 people in it. It was DA BOMB, as we say here. It's everything you'd think it would be- and more. Heroes and villains, happy and sad moments- all the things you read, heard, or saw in the previous books and movies, condensed into two wonderful hours. PS Don't bring anyone to see who isn't at least familiar with the whole wizarding culture. As for the rest of us, *Accio Catnip*! PSS I know why Jo won't write another book. She has to clean up Hogwarts first- what a mess she left it in LOL!Avatar Imagekyrstalkris says: YES! I always wanted this to be the highest grossing movie! And I've watched it! I'm actually planning to watch it again! :D It's so brilliant! =]Avatar Imagesilverkacy says: Just saw it- AWESOME! They did not talk about Dumbledores sister- about how she died.Avatar ImagePotionsMaster7 says: Welcome to New Jersey, where we have a Midnight Premiere and everyone in the theatre becomes a family for the night. Sharing cupcakes and candy and other things. One only needed to shout "Accio Deliciousness" and someone gave them something! It was beyond anything I could have imagined.....and Alan Rickman deserves an Oscar Avatar Imagehalf-bloodprince says: Oh my gosh! SPOILER ALERT - When Snape was hugging Lily's body while baby Harry was crying, I felt just as sad as he did. I'm so glad that they put that scene there, it really showed how much Snape loved Lily. The picture of Snape holding Lily has been haunting me since I saw it!Avatar ImageMatea says: OH GOD! excellent! I feel so proud. can't wait to break another record! I'll definitely help with few tickets ;)Avatar ImagePotterFandomForever says: Watched it yesterday! It was so incredible! the Great Battle was really good except for the last part with harry and voldemort, wish it were like in the book.Snape's memories were amazing, one of the best done scenes.Everything was wonderful really, it is by far my favourite.I Have to go see it again.Long live Harry!!!Avatar ImageCorruptedNethicite says: I seen the movie @ midnight, that was sold out all 14 showings. I seen a few people dressed-up. I seen a Voldemort, Draco and Bellatrix that were awesome. There were a few Gryffindor dress-up there too(with the tie and dress shirt). And then there was ME, dress-up in my Hufflepuff full attire. I got a lot of mix opinions but all-in-all, it was was amazing experience. I was glad to have been part of that epic night. Pottermore, here I come.Avatar ImageMrs.Brisby says: Saw it at midnight last night. Glad I could contribute to twilights downfall! :P Loved the movie *so* much. Was in tears at the end and I wasn't the only one. Lot's of sniffles coming from the theater.Avatar ImageBara says: I was really hoping to see it today, but I won't be able to check out DH:2 until Sunday morning. I hope it's fantastic.Avatar ImageEeyore says: I didn't get to go to a midnight show this year. So I went to the first non 3D one they had this morning. At 10:45 am I was certainly not alone in the theater. The one I was in seats 299 and I'd guess there were between 225 and 250 there. There were people in line for the next show when I left. It will be interesting to see what the numbers are after the weekend is over. But I'm not at all surprised - a lot of us have waited a long time for this movie. As with all the other movies, WB will make more on me than just today. I already have plans to go next week with my daughter and her husband who couldn't go today.Avatar Imagewandmastercalum says: I really loved this movie! A very important scene was missing but I'm not going to say what in fear I might spoil the film for some. I was really disappointed about that scene being missing and for a while I wasn't sure whether I liked the film or not but then I got over it and I really enjoyed the film. A lot of the things they did was just fantastic and really did the book and fans justice. There was a couple of cheesy moments and some did make me cringe a bit. SPOILER ALERT!!!!! Snape's memories were just fantastic and Alan Rickman really was amazing. They did miss out the fact Lily and Snape had fallen out! I definately cried when Snape found Lily. They managed to have some scenes from the first film too, which did start to get to me. When Voldemort yelled the curse that "killed" Harry it seemed a bit silly the way he pronouced it. It was a bit of fail at being dramatic :D. The King's Cross scene was fantastic! The 19 Years Later bit really captured how I had imagined it. I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see Hogwarts fully rebuilt as the last time we would have saw Hogwarts was a destroyed mess. There was a bit too much death eaters and not enough duels :S the final battle of Hogwarts seemed a bit too Lord of the Ringsy. The way they ended it seemed to suggest another film. As much as I would love I don't think it would be a smart move. Imo it would turn out like Star Wars, which was a great franchise and keeps trying to make more and more of the same thing but turning out quite bad. Lets cross our fingers Harry Potter doesn't go down that route. Either way it was an amazing film and I would love to see it again. Very good to watch but I feel they could have said goodbye to the greatest franchise of all time in a better way (that's just my opinion). Avatar Imageathena lupen says: i went 2 the midnight premere and it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar Imageathena lupen says: i went 2 the midnight premere and it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar ImageMad But Happy says: I believe it. There was 1,500 people at the theatre I went to. They even had a 3am showing of the movie so that the people who didn't pre-order tickets could watch. I live in the middle of nowhere, New Hampshire. I have not seen that many people in one place at the same time since I've moved here. o_oAvatar ImageJakeom95 says: i cant believe it. its over. RIP Childhood!Avatar ImageHogwartsForever says: I hope they manage to break the $1 billion mark with this one.Avatar ImageErin Lovegood says: I'm not surprised, but I am extremely happy. I went last night. The air was palpable with excitement and the audience ready. They loved it, I loved it. And may I just say, Neville Longbottom Rocked!Avatar ImageMawuko Batse says: I think this one will finally do a billion, being the last one and having the extra 3D factor. Oh, and it's great, also.Avatar Imagejedisakora says: Ya! Even my small town theater was completely sold out. Avatar Imagekiwimci says: I loved Filch cleaning up after the battle! Next stop the Dark Knight's record. I do want this one to be financially on par with PS. Come on! Also you know the whole "Why do you live?" "Because I have something worth living for" Was that in the movie I can't remember... guess I'll just have to buy a ticket and give more money to the movie :)Avatar ImageErinM says: Loved the movie! But I'm IN LOVE with the books. Oh JKR, why did it all have to be so good? You left us wanting more but wrapped it up so nicely. I'm devastated it's over (and I'm secretly still hoping for more) but for now, Pottermore will have to do. Thank you JKR for the best story written. Avatar ImageDlcohm7 says: I saw the midnight show and then the 11am one today.Only 4 hrs sleep, had to take nap later. Was so worth it.Was truly brilliant! Plot stories were perfect! Prince's tale, forest again, kings cross, perfect! I wish they would have made harrys, adult lily and little lilys eyes GREEN! like they are suppose to be.Never understood why they couldn't put that in,important for story. And a few other major things, like, SPOILER ALERT.. didn't fix his wand before he breaks the elder.I loved the ending,Dumby's sis and grindewald story, and Dumby's wish for elder wand, showing the 3 before then 19 yrs later oh wow! So perfect and emotional. You could see the love between all the actors for each other. That in itself will be a bond that will never break.Remember what Dumbledore said "Of course it's in your head, but why on earth would that mean it isn't real?". We all know it is....;)Avatar ImageGata says: I believe it this is going to set the record really high and probably will be very difficult to beat in the future.Avatar ImageLunaLuver says: Go Neville Longbottom! You the wizard! I'm still emotional just thinking about all that happened, I could start crying again right now!Avatar ImageMorrolan says: I know this is going to go against everybody else here, but I just got back from the movie, and very displeased. In my opinion, it is the worst of the eight movies because they changed to much important stuff. No, I'm not talking about the inevitable picking and choosing about what the put in and what they left out. I'd give more detail, but it's too early to discuss particulars.Avatar Imagejoeys_mommy says: This doesn't surprise me at All! I saw the movie and was just in tears! I also may have screamed when Ron and Hermione kissed :PAvatar Imagepotterball says: of course they may have tabbed the rio 21 in albqurque as well, which last night had a 3:15 AM showing, so if were really a night owl you could watch ti as wellAvatar Imageazaadpotter says: Awesome!!!!! Yeah baby way to go HP. Suck it twilight.Avatar Imagedevilskinn says: I am so moved to read this!Avatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: Awesome! Great job HP fans!Avatar Imagemmaqureshi98 says: Deathly hallows part 2 rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar ImageHarry-Potter.fan says: That is absolutely brilliant! Harry Potter will far always be the best! :D I am so Happy that something so big! was awarded that much appreciation! It will always be remembered, 10 great years of our lives. :')Avatar ImageHermione_Granger1987 says: I went to see it the day it came out!!!! It was amazing!! I couldn’t stop crying… I want the movie on the first place in the box office! Avatar ImageLegacyLady says: I couldn't imagine a franchise ... a story ... a group of cast and crew that deserve this record more than those involved - top to bottom - in the Harry Potter world! I'm so proud to have been a part of the midnight record and already can't wait to see this amazing film again! Harry Potter fans truly are loyal, wonderful, supportive fans - and I truly believe we're appreciated for it!Avatar ImageAceba says: Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar Imagespellchick50 says: NERDS RULE THE NIGHT!!!!!!Avatar ImageDukaaa says: I knew it ! :)Avatar Imagetim_2006 says: I am one angray ravenclaw. What happened to them showing the ravenclaw common room?Avatar ImageTheHeirOfSlytherin2 says: Yayy! YEAH! Go Harry Potter!!Avatar Imageginny_weasley1998 says: Impersive! Loyal fans! Go us! Even tho the final film is done, Harry potter will forever remain in our hearts ! Long live Harry potter!Avatar Imageksddancer says: No surprise! It was an AMAZING movie. Words cannot describe how great it truly was! Congrats!Avatar Imagepotterball says: well you can now add 92 million on fri alone and so you add that with the midnight showings it's haul in two days has been 135.5 million, so it looks like it will easily break the dark knights opening weekend, which really won't make warner brothers that mad, and considering also they have the teaser trailer for the dark knight rises attached to deathly hollows part 2Avatar Imageamelia 1-2-3- says: amazing though it was this was not unexpected...:)Avatar ImageLillylove says: Happy to have played my part in helping to set the record!Avatar Imagejoeys_mommy says: "Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend." - Stephen King Thast why HP will always be Better then Twilight :PAvatar Imagepotterball says: and box office exhibtor is saying it will shatter dark knights opening of 158 million, it's estimating 175 million from friday to sunday, so it will make 200 million in it's first weekAvatar Imageroseteaxx says: Awesome!!!!!! :DAvatar Imageginny527 says: yes!! i went to the midnight show and it was AMAZING!!!! best movie EVER!! i went to see it again last night w/ more ppl and i would totally see it a third time in the theater!! im sooo happy we finally beat those stupid sparkly vampire idiots!!! TWILIGHT WILL NEVER BEAT HARRY!! :DAvatar ImageSteph says: While not a surprise, still awesome regardless! :)Avatar ImageLoonyMaddie3 says: Ohh yeah! Way to go, Potterites! I just hope that we can get enough to beat Twilight by the end of the weekend! C'mon, guys, what's the DA and the Order for? DESTROYING EVIL!!!Avatar ImageRubeusHagrid says: I really do think this was the BEST movie..by far. It was basically flawless. All the others I have some problems with (well PS/SS and DH Pt. 1 not so much..but this still tops it). I have never in my entire life gone to any movie twice in theatres..& Yet I'm going to this one again next weekend. It was so very perfect. I hope it beats all records, and makes 3 billion dollars =) Avatar ImageDavidTheUnready says: Went to see it yesterday evening in Tralee, Ireland. Saw the 2D version, couldn't get tickets for 3D so will go back during the week. First time I've ever heard a full audience go 'schhhhh' at the start of a film. Brilliant experience, can't wait now for the DVD so I can watch over and over again. Neville rocked in it. And Alan deserves an Oscar, how on earth did he get that emotion out! Oh and fair play to Filch with the broom lol huge laugh...Avatar ImageDavidTheUnready says: Yay found Leaky on Sirius XM channel 850Avatar Imageizziewitch says: Still trying to catch my breath (and wipe away tears). Went to the 2D film yesterday (sold out theatre), going tomorrow to see it in the imax 3D, but I don't think you need that. It was an amzing film, even though I still don't like the falling-from-tower thing, but I do understand why they did it. Only complaint is that Harry didn't fix his wand at the end, and they could have easily done that before he broke it in two (a silly thing to think you could do anyway, it is the Elder Wand after all). Allan Rickman was wonderful and so emotional, Dan was excellent in all of it, especially the forest scene. LIked the way they made it seem as if he could feel the horcruxes being destroyed as well and that he could "hear" them. How else would he have found the diadem, since Ginny hid it in HBP (another annoying change). Hope it beats out all the other films this opening weekend; I'm sure it will.Avatar Imagevonvon says: watched 3 times..2 shows back2back..still it seems there is need to watch 10000000 times..... \m/ legend this epic is.....and always be...Avatar Imagesboyer06 says: HAHA!!! Thats great! loved it, just wasnt loyal to the book like they said. I hope Twilights fourth movie doesnt beat out Harry Potter. The twilight books are good, but the movies are horrible. they did a disgusting job of making them and they cast especially Kristen, shes a stuttering fool who makes Bella look like an idiot. But enough of that HERES TO HARRY POTTER AND THE AMAZING CAST!!! WOOT WOOT!Avatar ImageLunaLuver says: I'm going to try and see it again this weekend if tickets arent sold out. Then I'l hitting the IMAX! XDAvatar ImageHiren58 says: AWESOME!! I'm glowing with happiness and pride for our beloved Harry Potter series! And to be honest, I wouldn't have expected less from this film, after all, to quote Warner Bros, "It all Ends" and this is based on a record shattering novel of the same name that has become one of my favourites in the series alongside Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban! Go Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :D :P!!!! And I'm proud to be a part of Leaky, of this AMAZING fandom and of the audiences who went to the midnight premiere of this film!!! It was EPIC!!!! If you haven't seen this movie........GO. WATCH. IT. NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)Avatar ImageHiren58 says: And if it helps! The rating on rotten tomatoes for this movie is 97% !!!!!!! ;)Avatar Imagepaige350z says: Absolutely awesome!! Where I live, Cinemark offered a Harry Potter Marathon, featuring all 8 films spanning 2 days. I never expected it to be as emotional as it was for me. I cried through a lot of Sorcerer's Stone, and got teary-eyed in every movie, just seeing how the actors have grown and how the story has revealed itself on-screen. Deathly Hallows Pt 2 was brilliantly done. I am so sad it is over, but OH HOW I HAVE ENJOYED THE RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, Jo Rowling, for an amazing experience spanning over a decade and for a journey that has touched us all. I will buy anything you write!!! :D LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :DAvatar ImageDracmione-booksncleverness says: I'm not surprised.Got to watch it again. It was AMAZING!!!! Avatar ImageDracmione-booksncleverness says: And take that twilight!!!!!!Avatar Imagebaru08 says: AMAZING!! best opening day ever!!! Avatar Imageharrmione55 says: Watched the midnight showing in 3D it's SO AWESOME people are crying and sobbing (Harry's death, Snape's memory esp hugging Lily) and clapping (Molly blasted Bellatrix) just some of the part. I'll be watching it again this Sunday with friends and next Sunday with Grands :)Avatar Imagehandhrfan18 says: TOTALLY AWESOME!Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: Yay!!!!! Congrats HP!Avatar Imagesimmb3 says: Yay, I contribute to the record.Avatar ImagethelonglostWeasley says: Of course it did... :)Avatar ImageMidnightSun321 says: Woooooooooooooooooooo!! No wonder, the tickets (for me) costed £12.99 :O
